Using modes correctly
2. Find Them
on modes
Question
1. What mode does the melody in the Amen of total praise use?
2. What does the 4th mode of all the major, melodic, and harmonic minor have in common?
3. How would you find the notes to a Super Locrian in Ab?
4. Find the notes to a Lydian Augmented in Eb?5. The Band is Holding a Bflat in the bass and you
decide you want to quickly execute a descending Bflat mixolydian? What do you do?
The current thinking about modes, forces you to constantly change the key.
It’s not practical
Say you wanted to Find a C Lydian? The reason I used to get confused with this is because I incorrectly assumed that you
would go to C. then find the C lydian mode, which sometimes looked like thisf-g-a-b-c-d-e
This just shows how youwould find F Lydian, by looking at
the 4th mode of C!!! crazy!
Say you wanted to Find a C Lydian?
C lydian mode is actually:C-D-E-F#-G-A-B
So to find the Lydian of ANY key, I just need to raise the 4th note,
of the major scale. Got it!
I realized I only need to remember how each mode deviates from the major
scale
Use Circle of Fifths
So here is the ORDER that I practice and what makes natural sense. Plus it keeps you in the same key causing greater retention modes
