This fiction choice board is the perfect addition to a reading center, writing center, or as an early finisher activity. It can be placed in a “Choice Board” center or in a Read to Self/Reading Center. By using a
choice board in your center, you are allowing students to take ownership of their
learning. The students are able to choose an activity that they want to complete. Each
time the student has completed an activity, they will cross out the activity on their
choice board. The students will continue to complete different activities until the entire
board has been completed. When their board is completed you can then give them
a new one.

INtroDuciNG tHe CHoice BoarDWhen introducing the choice board, it is important that you not only explain how it works, but that you also MODEL how to complete each activity
While modeling the activities, you will also be setting expectations for their work time.
When I introduce the choice boards to my class I do so over a week or two. I start by going over the choice board and how it works. Then each day I choose ONE of the activities and MODEL how to complete it. During centers that day the students
are to complete the SAME activity that was modeled. This process repeats until all activities have been modeled and the students understand
exactly what they are to be doing. Once the students understand how they complete this
center they are then able to have choice in which activity they want to complete during their center.
BoNus Activities These bonus activities can be printed on the back of the original activity.
These “bonus” activities were created as an extension activitiy for those
advanced students.
How to store Each choice board activity can be placed into a different folder in order to allow
students to easily access the activity they chose. You can color coordinate the folders to the activity on the choice board. Or you
can add the title to the front of each folder. These activiites could also be placed
in Sterlite drawers or in a rolling cart depending on what you have available.

At the end of the story, I would haveMr. Fish find his classroom and believe in himself. I would add Mr. Fish as a teacher telling his students that he believes in them. I think this would be agreat ending because his teacher helped him to believe in himself when he was a student.
