An Academic Profile is a genre thataims to show, in your academicenvironment, a little bit of who youare. The text must have a minimumof 10 and a maximum of 15 lines,

and be sent to the Sigaa as anattachment (.doc).

Observe that you should use properlanguage, i.e., clear and objectiveEnglish, while respecting grammaraccuracy. Nevertheless, you don’t

have to be too formal; simply try touse neutral, standard language andNEVER be offensive towards otherpeople’s ideologies or use vulgar

language.

Your personal profile should be

composed of four topics, each oneorganized in one paragraph:

1. Personal identification;

2. Personality traits, habits andpreferences;3. Educational and academic

background;4. Professional experience and

perspectives.

1) Personal identification: name, age, placeof birth, who you live with.

Example 1) My name is Paulo Medeiros, I am18 years old and I come from Mossoró, RN.

Since I moved to Natal, I’ve lived with aflatmate.

Example 2) I am Larissa Santos, I am 17 and I

was born in Natal, RN. I live with my motherand a sister.

Important: Do NOT use greetings (Hi! Hello!

etc).

2) Some (brief) information about yourpersonality (one or two positive points, and

one negative aspect) and your preferences(in sports, music, entertainment, food etc.).

Notice that, because you’ll be talking abouthabits, the verbs must be in the SimplePresent Tense. Also, try not to generalize(e.g., “I like music”), because it will not giveyour reader an idea of your preferences.Instead, give examples.

Say where you studied, and if you did anyspecial courses (languages, InformationTechnology etc.). Don’t forget to mention thereasons why you chose to attend theBachelor’s Course in Science and Technology.Remember that, unlike the topic on personalhabits and preferences (in which you used

verbs in the Simple Present), now you shoulduse verbs in the Simple Past Tense (unlessyou’re still attending these courses / doing

these activities).

As you write your profile, remember to:

1. Write short, clear sentences;

2. Use connectives whenever possible;

3. Keep a balance between the differenttopics covered (for example, even you reallylike music, avoid talking too much about it);

4. Keep in mind the kind of public image you

want to convey. Therefore, it is important tochoose a suitable picture of yourself.
