TPO Feature Interview: Magor's Ken Davison on Industry Trends
and Aerus
February 25, 2014 | David S. Maldow, Esq.
It's been almost a year since we checked in
with Magor. At the time, the Aerus solution had
just been announced, and we were able to provide
a sneak peak from the Enterprise Connect
tradeshow. Since that time, Aerus has been
released to the market where it has been well
received by a growing user base. Magor has
continued to develop the platform since that time.
As I said back then, Magor appears to be paying
close attention to both industry trends and shifting
user expectations, and developing Aerus
accordingly. We spoke with Magor's Chief Marketing Officer and SVP of Sales, Ken Davison, to learn
more about how Magor plans to navigate through the seas of this ever changing industry, as well as his
thoughts on user expectations, visual collaboration trends, and where Aerus fits into the picture.

Vu Telepresence: New Endpoint Hits the Price / Performance
Sweet Spot
February 24, 2014 | David S. Maldow, Esq.
Vu Telepresence has just released a new VC endpoint product. We have
been fans of the Vu's affordable, but powerful, solutions for some time.
Founded in 2006, Vu has become a leader at its price point. The new 2014
model is really worth taking a look at, with a lot to offer in both form and
function. The codec itself is smaller, with a sleeker, more modern style.
But don't let the compact design fool you, there is a lot of power under the
hood.

Story and images by Derrik J. Lang / Salon
Oscar-nominated documentarian Danfung Dennis believes the next
evolution in filmmaking will be to surround viewers with images in 360
degrees -- directly on their noggins.
Dennis, whose gripping 2012 film "Hell and Back Again" told of a
soldier's battle with post-traumatic stress disorder, is creating his next film
project especially for the Oculus Rift, a virtual reality headset still in
development. The device provides wearers with an immersive, wrap-
around view that doesn't make them queasy.

Google announces Project Tango, a smartphone that can map the world around it
Story and images by Jacob Kastrenakes / The Verge
Google has built a prototype Android smartphone that can learn and
map the world around it. The device comes from a new initiative called
Project Tango, and it's ready to get the phone into developers' hands to
see what the technology is capable of. Google says that the phone will
learn the dimension of rooms and spaces just by being moved around
inside of them -- walking around your bedroom, for example, would
help the phone learn the shape of your home. The hope is that by
creating a robust map of the world, Google's phone could eventually
give precise directions to any given point that needs to be reached.

Willow Garage's Last Days
Story and images by Ashlee Vance/ Bloomberg Businessweek
In 2006, Scott Hassan, a prolific software engineer, started a
research lab dedicated to robotics called Willow Garage. Since
then, he's funded the lab with about $20 million of his own money
each year, hiring dozens of the world's leading robotics engineers
and giving them almost total freedom to pursue their often off-the-
wall ideas. Willow Garage developed an operating system that's
become the standard software for most of the robotics industry. Continue reading...
