security requirement.

Deploys a large number of virtual machines.

Huawei Solution Unique CSS+VS virtualization solution

Vertical cluster solution SVF by CE6850 and CE5810

Integrated and virtualized access solution nCenter

Huawei Advantages Huawei uses the VS+CSS solution and SVF solution to

construct a loop-free network to simplify network

management, reduce CAPEX and OPEX, and ensure security

isolation among multiple service systems. The leaf node

devices CE5800s can use the local forwarding mode to

release bandwidth pressure of the parent node devices

CE6800s.

The cluster bandwidth can reach 640 Gbit/s which can ensure

non-blocking forwarding of services.

Less than 2 us low delay ensures normal transmission of

real-time services.

Service Characteristics

Four CE12800s with 48*10GE or 24*40GE cards are

deployed at the core layer. The CE12800s are connected to

TOR switches through 10GE or 40GE links, and ECMP is

used for load balancing. OSPF or BGP is run at the access

and core layers.

Layer 3 services run on TOR switches which connect to the

four CE12800s through four uplink 10GE or 40GE ports. The

TOR switches provide smart classification functions such as

L3 gateway, QoS, and ACL.

Servers are single-domed to TOR switches. Redundancy

deployment of services in service zones ensures service

reliability at the access layer.

Huawei Advantages

Stability: High bandwidth evolution capability; 16 slots of

high-density 10GE, 40GE, or 100GE ports; back-to-back

cluster; leading product architecture and redundancy of key

components

Visibility: Network control and service deployment methods

such as Netconf, OpenFlow, and NQA

Openness: Fine openness and strong customization

capability; diversified and customized zero configuration

solutions (POAP ZTP); customized interfaces, programs, and

routing protocols (for example, for the IT company Tencent)

Service Characteristics High bandwidth: There are many types of services including

video, voice, and wireless services, which have high

requirements on bandwidth and port density.

New technology: IPv6 and VS (shared core of campus and data

center) need to be deployed.

High reliability: Some campuses have high reliability

requirements. For example, uninterrupted service transmission

must be ensured during software upgrade.

Huawei Solution Huawei sets up two CE12800 switches in a CSS and uses the

CSS as two VSs to function as the core for both the campus

network and data center network.

Huawei Advantages The CE12800 provides high-density 10GE, 40GE, or even

100GE ports, and there are four CE12800 models: CE12804,

CE12808, CE12812, and CE12816.

Huawei's IPv6 technology has passed test of third party

authorities and Huawei supports "CSS+VS" virtualization.

Huawei supports CSS and BFD and provides ISSU to ensure

service reliability.

Application Scenario: High-end Campus Core

27

Service Characteristics The Ethernet egress needs to strong routing capabilities such

as OSPF and BGP.

The network transmits multiple services and security isolation

is required between different services.

Customers who care about the price, want to use an Ethernet

switch as the egress router.

Huawei Solution Huawei sets up two CE12800 switches in a CSS and uses the

CSS as two VSs (one VS as the egress router and the other as

the switching core).

Huawei uses MPLS L3VPN/VPLS to support multi-tenants and

expansion of Layer 2 domains.

Huawei Advantages A single card supports a maximum of 1 MB FIB entries .

CSS+VS is used to simplify network management, reducing

CAPEX and OPEX.

VS ensures security isolation between the egress router and

switching core, and the routing entry specification is the same

as the device specification.

Abundant IPv4/IPv6 routing features are supported to

implement smooth migration from IPv4 to IPv6 .

Huawei switches use standard protocols; therefore, you can

connect them to devices from other vendors.

Service Characteristics Virtual machines can be leased to 3000 tenants currently, and the number of

tenants can be enlarged in the future. Different tenants need to be isolated

logically or physically.

Services should not be interrupted during device upgrade or when a single point

failure occurs.

Services are deployed in several stages and expanded based on requirements.

Huawei Solution Huawei uses multiple CE12800s as core switches and CE12800s, CE5800s and

CE6800s as access switches to construct a TRILL large Layer 2 network. Huawei

uses ECMP to implement load balancing. Servers are dual-homed to TOR/EORs,

which are multi-homed to core switches.

Uses VS to function as the internal Layer 3 gateway, improving device usage

efficiency.

Uses TRILL, VxLAN, or NVGRE to support a large number of tenants.

Huawei Advantages CE12800 supports CSS multiple switches to one, simplifying network, improving

network efficiency ; Industry-leading VS 1:16, improving resources utilization ;And

combine VS & CSS to manage switches with more flexibility.

Huawei switches use standard protocol TRILL; therefore, you can connect them to

devices from other vendors.

TOR switches provide 4 x 40 Gbit/s or 4 x 10 Gbit/s uplink bandwidth and support

a small oversubscription ratio.

Huawei provides high-density 24 x 40GE cards to construct large scale networks.

Huawei is the only vendor in the industry to supply NVGRE hardware gateways

and work with Microsoft to deliver an end-to-end solution for customers.

Full Orthogonal Architecture for High Bandwidth, Flexibility

and Expansion

Excellent full orthogonal architecture • In core switches, cable connection between line cards and switching fabrics is an important factor affecting slot bandwidth. The longer the

backplane cable and its speed, the greater the loss.

• The orthogonal architecture of CE12800 removes the need for backplane cables, which greatly improves the system bandwidth and

enhances its evolutionary capability.

Architecture Highlights: "strict front-to-rear ventilation channel design+full

series orthogonal architecture+high-density, low-delay, and low power consumption cards"

Technology Advantage

Huawei Highlights Competitors

Front-to-rear ventilation channel

All the four CE12800 chassis use the strict front-to-rear ventilation channel design. This design can isolate cold air from hot air in a data center; therefore, equipment room reconstruction is not required.

N7010: Front-to-rear ventilation channel N7009 and N7018: Left-to-right ventilation channel

Orthogonal architecture

All the CE12800 series use the orthogonal architecture. Cabling between line cards and switch fabric units is an important factor that determines link bandwidth loss. When the orthogonal architecture is used, the backplane cabling length is reduced to 0, improving signal stability.

N7010: Two slots with non-orthogonal architecture (one on left and one on right) N7018: Six slots with non-orthogonal architecture (three on left and three on right) N7009: Non-orthogonal

High-density line speed 40GE card

(24*40GE)

Line speed 48*10GE, 24*40GE, 4*100GE In cloud computing era, 10GE access and 40GE aggregation are the trend in data centers.

N7000: 12*40GE, 6*100GE

Port Buffer 100ms/port N77:2.4ms/port N9K:1.3ms/port N7K:1.2ms/port(F2/F2e)

Low power consumption and low

delay

Uses the industry-leading highly-integrated (forwarding and scheduling) large capacity chips to improve forwarding efficiency. The average power consumption of a 10GE port is no more than 5 W and the port delay is no more than 3 us. Test reports from the third-party authority Mirecom are available.

N7000: Power consumption of M series switches is 10 times that of the CE series; while power consumption of F series switches is 2 times that of the CE series.

68

Solution Highlights: "CSS+VS"+iStack (virtualization), TRILL (Large Layer 2)

Technology Advantage

Huawei Highlights Competitors

"CSS+VS"+ iStack Virtualization solution

1. Unified configurations at Layer 2 and Layer 3 CSS virtualizes multiple devices into one to prevent loops and networking reliability. There is no need to deploy Layer 2 loop prevention protocols such as STP and Layer 3 redundancy gateway protocols such as HSRP or VRRP.

2. "CSS+VS" synergy technology The cluster bandwidth is shared by all the VSs, which is similar to switch fabric units. Cluster cables belong to VS0. All the cluster cables share the cluster bandwidth to save bandwidth resources and traffic is load balanced to all the VSs.

3. 640 Gbit/s cluster bandwidth The CE12800 provides a 640 Gbit/s cluster bandwidth (16 x 40 Gbit/s).

4. TOR switches supporting iStack A maximum of 16 TOR switches can form a stack. Compared with Cisco's FEX solution, access devices support local forwarding and aggregation devices have no performance bottlenecks.

1. vPC used by the N7K is only a link-layer Layer 2 virtualization technology. You need to deploy routing protocols such as OSPF or gateway redundancy protocols such as HSRP or VRRP at Layer 3.

2. The N7K vPC provides a 160 Gbit/s cluster bandwidth (16 x 10 Gbit/s).

3. Cisco promotes the FEX solution and their access devices do not support local forwarding. Besides, only devices from the same vendor can be used at the access and aggregation layers because the two layers are closely coupled.

TRILL large layer 2 solution

1. Standard large Layer 2 protocol TRILL is an IETF standard, which facilitates interworking with devices from other vendors.

2. Supported by all cards (including GE and 40GE cards) TRILL is supported by all the CE series cards, including 40GE, 10GE, and GE cards.

1. N9K do not support large Layer 2 protocol. 2. FabricPath is Cisco proprietary protocol. 3. N7K with the F series cards (10GE) supports

FabricPath. When N7K has M series cards installed, it does not support FabricPath.
