HUMAN NUTRITION CHANGES

Undergraduate Program Changes:

1. HN 2314 will only be required for Dietetics Majors

a. This is how it was in quarters. We made it part of our core courses during the semester

conversion, but have decided against this and now want to convert it back to how we

had it in quarters.

b. Other Nutrition Majors can still take the course as an elective.

Graduate Program Changes:

1. Removed HN 7765 Nutritional Assessment of Individuals and Populations

a. This course was added during the semester conversion process, but it is redundant. The

key material in this class is covered in other classes.

Course changes:

1. Adding C- or better for all prerequisite courses for all of our undergraduate HN courses.

a. Suggested by Nancy Rudd in Human Sciences UG Coordinator meeting. This will help our

students determine that they need to change majors sooner. Right now we have about

a dozen students each year that do not get the required C- in our junior and senior level

advanced Nutrition courses. This is too late for them to change majors, yet they have to

spend an extra year in school to repeat these courses. Some need to repeat these

courses several times.

2. Adding limits to Nutrition Majors (Human, Animal, and Medical Dietetics) for senior level

courses.

a. This was suggested by the advisors to stop students from shadowing the major when

they have not been admitted to the program.

3. Adding a fee to 2314 and adding limits to 2314 to only Nutrition preMajors, Majors and minors

(Human, Animal, Medical Dietetics, and Family and Consumer Science Education).

a. This course costs the department ~ $400 per student. We have requested a fee of $100

to offset this cost. We are also limiting this course to just the students that need to take

it.
