You’ve probably already noticed that our newsletter is longer than usual! 😀

We’ve got a few bits of news to update you on this month but we’re going to start, as usual, with some photos of some of our recent work. We started this project in Snodland back in November and there’s still a good few years of growing to be done before it is actually ‘finished’ but we’re really pleased with how it’s looking.

David Eve

Most of you know David, who has been a key member of our team since we started. He’s

worked on all our regular maintenance gardens and all the big projects we’ve done over the

past four years. David turned 60 in January and he’s decided to hang up his spade and take

life a bit easier. 😀

We’re really going to miss him - his terrible jokes and extraordinary love of digging holes

particularly 😀 but we’ll keep in touch and see him regularly. Here are a few photos of some of the projects David

has helped us realize!

Our favourite David jokeTwo men are digging holes

and filling them with earth in a park on a Monday morning. A

passer-by stops and asks what’s going on? “Tree

planter’s off sick today” one of them replies :)

The worker cooperative will also have shareholders who help decide which charities we donate to and it’s great that David is going to be one of the shareholders along with Mick and Pam who have been so important to us over the last couple of years in particular

The Team

Harvey Woods Carman Worker Co-operative

We are just finalising our conversion into a worker co-operative. We’ve been thinking about this for some time now and we feel it’s the right thing to do for us, our customers and our suppliers. Initially, there will only be two full members, Dave Carman and Tom Harvey, but new members will join after a probationary period and enjoy exactly the same status. About 30% of any profits we make will be donated to local and relevant charities such as the RSPB and The Lord

Whisky Sanctuary Fund who do so much to protect local wildlife 🌿 We’ve got a

new page on our website that tells you much more about how it all works.

Mick Woods Mick is an artist ‘by trade’ but focused mainly on wildlife watercolours and drawings and has amassed amazing knowledge which we often call upon when needed. Mick took on a lot of the administration work when Tom was in hospital for much of 2015.

Pam Harvey Pam is Tom’s Mum and took on ’the other half’ of the admin work when Tom was in hospital. She’s a keen gardener herself and recently retired from teaching English at The Canterbury Academy.

She is also big fan of camels! 😀

Dave and Tom completed their Lantra Chainsaw

accreditation in March and Dave is also

accredited as a Wildflower Turf ‘expert’ after his one-day

workshop in early April 👌

We’d just got used to calling

Buttercup by her name and we’d love suggestions

for naming the new van!

We were

very proud to send invoice

number 01000 in

March!

In early March, Buttercup (who had only been christened by one of our customers a month before!) broke

down again on the A2 back to Canterbury 😩

We’d only just had all the callipers, brakes and new tyres fitted so we decided that it was time to stop pouring money into the old thing. Seems

harsh for a 6-year old but the AA clearly worked her hard!

We’ve got a spanking brand new Renault Traffic on Contract Hire and although we lost the bright yellow colour, we won’t be breaking down

again in the foreseeable future

😀
