Welcoming - Rev. Ron Harris Welcome to worship this morning. Welcome to Worship Video Prelude Sue Woods Threshold Moment Rev. Ron Harris A Christian mystic of the 14th century, Julian of Norwich, lived during one of the worst centuries of human history, including the black death pandemic that wiped out millions of people, famines, floods, war, and corruption. In her writing, she addresses what she believed to be at the root of suffering–the misplaced idea of God’s rejection. Without this core belief in beauty and sacred worth, we engage in self-and-other-destroying behaviors, inducing further suffering. Contemplative practices invite us into union with the Divine One, healing the wounds of forgetfulness.

Scripture Reading: Intro: Leader: Beauty occurs in many ways through our rituals. Divina is of Latin and Italian origin, meaning “divine or heavenly.” It is also a variant of Davina (Hebrew), meaning ”loved one.” In this series, we will encounter the Divine Loved One through “Lectio Divina” with scripture, through “Sermo Divina”–the Latin origin of the word “sermon”– and through “Visio Divina”–images, music, and poetry. All of these are portals into a sensate experience of the holy. Some forms will pique your cognitive mind, but you can also allow some to simply wash over you, infusing your psyche and soul with a mysterious sense of wonder. Today we create pauses in our short scripture reading in order to meditate on the flavor of the Psalmist’s poetry so it becomes a mantra that can visit us in our memories when we need to heal the wounds of forgetfulness.
