I am pleased and honored to serve as the President of the Fort Bend County Fair Association and represent the entire 1200+ members countywide. As my term as your 81st president begins, I reflect on all the amazing things that have occurred in the last 81 years of this great organization: from the continued annual record at-tendance, the excitement that abounds our many events, the continued support of our amazing volunteers and sponsors, the growing record number of scholarships given to the youth annually, the great family memories, and now the building of a new George Barn. There are many exciting things occurring at our fair. What a great time to be a member of the best county fair in Texas!

As president, it is my goal to continue to lead the board within the mission of the fair association and continue our strategic growth plan. The 81st Annual FBC Fair theme will be “Serving youth today for a better tomorrow.” I carefully chose this theme to remain consistent with my reason for volunteering and serving the youth of today, who are our leaders of tomorrow. Fort Bend County has youth pride that runs countywide, and I am proud to call it my home.

We have an excellent board of directors, and I would like to welcome our new board members whose terms began on November 10, 2016. They are Tim Jakubik, Erin Gorka, and Roy Mercer. I would be remiss if I did not acknowledge the hard work of our staff. Cindy Schmidt and her staff work tirelessly to orchestrate all fair events year round. Whether it is our February Tejano Valentine’s Dance, May fishing tournament – Boots and Buckles On The Bay, April crawfish boil, August Downtown Wine Stomp, September Committeemen’s and Life Members Dance, September Sponsor dinner, or of course our ten day action-packed fair, this group does an amazing year round job. I encourage you to be on the watch for these events and get actively involved. You can find more information about each event by accessing www.FortBendCountyFair.com or contacting Cindy and her staff at 281-342-6171.

I would like to thank my family for supporting and encouraging me along life’s journey. My wife, Lisa and children Michael, Macy, Jacob, and Grace have always inspired me to be a better person today than I was yesterday. Thank y’all, and I love you very much!

In closing, we can be very optimistic about the future of our county and our fair association. I thank you for the opportunity to serve as your president, and I look forward to an exciting year ahead. Now let us get started “Serving the youth of today for a better tomorrow!”

History in ReviewThe first Fort Bend County Fair was held in 1933. The original Fairgrounds were located in Rosenberg, on the property now occupied by Fiesta on Avenue H. The only interruption in the county fair was during the years of World War II. In 1974, the Fairgrounds were moved to the existing location at 4310 State Highway 36 just south of U.S. Highway 59 in Rosenberg.

Youth education has always been a primary focus of fair activities. The development of a scholarship program in 1979 has provided deserving Fort Bend County students with scholarships to Texas colleges and universities. Annually, forty-two scholarships are awarded to our high school youth.

Through the years, the Fort Bend County Fair and Rodeo has grown into one of the largest and most successful Fairs in the State.

Residents of the county eagerly anticipate visiting with friends and neighbors at some of the many activities the

Fair and Rodeo has to offer.

Target Audienceu The entrance gates have been busy, counting approximately 200,000

attendees in 2015 and 2016. u The Fort Bend County Fair is a quality FAMILY EVENT that offers the

Best in Entertainment and PRCA Rodeo with a “hometown” flair!

Partners in ProgressParticipating Non-Profits

The following non-profits operate food booths during the Fair and Rodeo. Many of these dollars go back into the community to support our youth and other projects.

ScholarshipsProceeds from the 2016 Fort Bend County Fair and Rodeo and the Fort Bend County Fair Life Membership Fund will provide $4,000 scholarships to 42 Fort Bend County qualifying students. Since 1979, the Fort Bend County Fair Association has awarded 787 scholarships to students.

Scholarship Recipient TestimonialsI can’t thank the Fort Bend County Fair enough for the scholarships they have awarded me. Fort Bend County is truly a family that cares deeply about every one of its members. Without the financial aid of the Fort Bend County Fair and several other organizations in the community, I know that my dream of attending Texas A&M would not have become a reality.

Nicole WittI find it very difficult to express the gratitude and joy the scholarship provided by the Fort Bend County Fair has given me. Being able to give me the means to obtain a higher education so that, just as those involved within the FBCF, I may one day have the ability to influence my community.

Christopher Flores-LopezI believe the Fort Bend County Fair is an extraordinary event that takes place each year. Primarily, due to the fact that I had the opportunity to show, I learned early on what the value of responsibility and hard work was. Secondly, I couldn’t imagine a better county to grow up in other than Fort Bend County. Through the Fair, I was able to meet new friends all around our county. Furthermore, now that I am a grateful recipient of this scholarship, it will help with the financial burden of college. It was truly an honor to show for ten years at the Fair, and I plan on continuing to reciprocate the hard work and responsibility skills with my studies in college. I will forever be thankful for the donors of my scholarship.

Caroline BriscoeThe Fort Bend County Fair helped make many of my dreams come true! I am a sophomore at Texas A&M majoring in Civil Engineering. Attending this great university has been a dream of mine since I was 8 years old! Showing livestock and volunteering at FBC, provided me the opportunity to meet so many amazing vol-unteers all coming together to benefit the youth of our community. I will forever be grateful to the Fort Bend County fair for the investment in my future! God Bless and Gig’em!

Tucker Novosad The Fort Bend County Fair Scholarship has allowed me to pursue my dream of attending Texas A&M Univer-sity and I couldn’t be more thankful for that. Attending A&M has been an incredible experience already, and I can’t wait to see what else is in store for me, all thanks to this scholarship.

Alaina SwallersThe Fort Bend County fair has shaped me into the person I am today and has opened the door of opportunity for my future. Through 10 years’ experience I have learned the importance of hard work and determination. With the scholarship from Fort Bend County Fair, I have been able to attend the college of my dreams, Texas A&M University, and pursue a bachelors in Agribusiness.

Aubrey BilicekThe Fort Bend County Scholarship gives me the opportunity to follow my dreams of studying wildlife in a successful Natural Resource Management program. Coming from a family whose pockets are not loaded with cash means that every penny of free money makes a huge impact. The Fair Scholarship gives me that huge impact on helping out with tuition.

Cody KalinowskiThe generosity of the Fort Bend County Fair and the scholarship I received has helped me have a very suc-cessful start to my Freshman year at Texas A&M. Participating in the past fairs as a youth in Student Fun Day activities, marching in the parade, to an exhibitor and as a Jr. Livestock member are etched in as my most fond memories. There are no finer folks than those in Fort Bend County and I am forever grateful.

Margo Warncke I graduated Foster High School in May of 2015, and I now attend the University of Texas at Austin as a chem-ical engineering major. My goal after I graduate is to attend graduate school to receive my Master’s. Since I want to pursue further education later on, I have become more aware of how quickly the expenses pile up. One of my biggest fears about attending college has been how I am going to pay for it. Because of the Fort Bend County Fair Scholarship, however, a huge financial burden has been lifted off my shoulders. Now, I am able to focus more on my academics and other beneficial opportunities and less on how I am going to be to afford my education.

Demi ArellanoThe Fort Bend County Fair Scholarship has helped me in many ways. Along with the ability to actually attend college and receive an education, I am able to do this and have no worries about financial matters. College gives students the ability to grow independently, socially, and in their education, but this is not the case when students must rely on others for financial support. Every college student dreams about graduating from col-lege and being free from debt. The Fort Bend County Fair Scholarship is what will help reach this goal. It is an amazing opportunity and a blessing to be a recipient.

Jordyn MyskaI received the 2016 Fort Bend County Fair Scholarship. I was extremely honored to receive this scholarship through all my hard work and dedication for the Fort Bend County Fair. I am attending Blinn College in Bryan, Texas right now and planning to attend Texas A&M University in the fall with a major in Agriculture Leader-ship with hopes of becoming a 4-H Extension Agent, or going into the Swine Industry. My passion for working with kids and their livestock projects is very strong. I would not be able to participate In opportunities like this one if it was not for receiving the Fort Bend County Fair Scholarship.
