WHEREAS, N.J.S.A. 10:4-12 allows for Public Body to go into closed session during a Public Meeting, and !

In 1988, the Department of Law and Public Safety and the Department of Education issued a model agreement for use by local law enforcement and education officials. These agreements were eventually signed in communities across the state and documented the commitment by both professional communities to work together as co-

equal partners to address the state's drug problem as it relates to school-aged children. Regulations promulgated by the State Board of Education and codified at N.J.A.C. 6:39-10.1 establish uniform statewide policies and procedures for ensuring cooperation between education officials and law enforcement agencies, and those policies and procedures are consistent with and complementary to the state Memorandum of Agreement approved by the Department of Law & Public Safety and the Department of Education. The Memorandum of Agreement was revised by the Department of Education and Attorney General in 2011 to account for new developments with respect to the scope and nature of the State's evolving drug and alcohol problem, and to address, for the first time, the problem of firearms and other weapons brought on to school property. !

It is recommended that the Board of Education approve the week of October 5-9, 2015 as a “Week of Respect” in all Medford Township Public Schools. ! Information Summary: !

The Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights was approved by the New Jersey Legislature in November 2010 and signed into law as P.L. 2010,c. 122, by Governor Chris Christie on January 5, 2011. The Anti-Bullying Bill of Rights designates the week beginning with the first Monday in October as “Week of Respect” throughout New Jersey. The law directs school districts to observe the “Week of Respect” through age-appropriate instruction in accordance with New Jersey’s core curriculum content and standards. !!

9. Approval of School Violence Awareness Week: MOTION:

It is recommended that the Board of Education approve the week of October 19-23, 2015 as “School Violence Awareness Week” as per N.J.S.A. 18A:36-5.1 and N.J.A.C. 6A:16-5.

Information Summary:

The week beginning with the third Monday in October of each year is designated as "School Violence Awareness Week" in the State of New Jersey. School districts must observe this week by organizing activities to prevent school violence including, but not limited to, age-appropriate opportunities for student discussion on conflict resolution, issues of student diversity, and tolerance. Law enforcement personnel must be invited to join members of the teaching staff in the discussions.
