G. C. KING, Chairman.

HEPOHT OF PHOiliOTIONAL SECRE'l'ARY

E. C. -'IORRIS Greeting-s in the Name of our \Vonderful Saviour. The Promotional work of our State Association continues to g0

fvrward. Since time and space is somewhat limited this report will be made as brief as posslble, merely g-iving- the information which 111av be consi1len~d the most impmtant.

The coopemtion dming- the past year .lias been very good of <·•mrse, there is still some opposition, hut it seems to be on the decrease. Those who hont•stly oppose arc to be appreciated and ·constructive criticism should always be welcome. The Pi'Olnotional Derartmcnt has, hy no means, reached perfection and those discovering the weak points .~houhl let their finding-s be known to the responsibl~ ones.

A request was made last year to the annual district session that some one be appointed or elected to assist the Promotional Secretary. The request _was g-ranted and the assistant supplied has been very valu~•ble. The same procedure has been continued and, no doubt, much g·ood will be accomplished by these helpers.

i\fission Confe1·ences for the Home and Foreig-n work were heid duling- the year in each of the Associational districts with the National ?\fission directors doing- the S]1eaking·. These ~onferences resulted' into n!uch g-ood for the cause and enabled us to raise our quotas. Beside , i he financial results, there were many who dadicated their lives to the":, ~ervice and some aecepte:rl Chli~t for the first time. Three churcheF were organized dnring the year and three non affiliated .churches were ad'ded to tlJC list. However, we rc>g-ret to report that three . '

churches were lost tlu·ough withdrawal and failure to represent. Some velry good revivals have been reported and several churches rc-

• ported splendid gains, but on the other hand, some of the chm!ches lost in membership, thereby bringing the net increase to about nor.:n•al. In looking at the statistical report, we1 find that 508 were baptized and 59 were restored or received upon confession, making 567 having been won fo1;· Christ. This means that it requires twenty church members t1) win one during the year. This is a bit of information that should cause us to hang our heads in shame. l\Iay we pr:l.y that, in some way, we may be fired with a greater evangelistic zeal and be fiiled with a greater passion for lost humanity. Forty nine of our churches failed to report a single bapth:m. Surely, something n'ust be wrong when a chtn'ch cannot win even one soul during a year. Are we satisfied to ddft along without any souls being saved, when, in reality, the main business of the church is to evangelize?

The auxiliary work of the church seems to be gaining grounds. During the yiear there have been more Sunday 'Schools, Leagues and Woman's Auxiliaries organized and the enrollment is greater tl~>m last y;ear, except the ·woman's Auxiliaries, which shows a slight de-· cl'ea~e. It is very gratifying to note that more of our churches are holding weekly prayer services. The number of churches going on full

time and' half time schedule continues to increase. The First State ~1mdayl School Convention was. held during tbe year and six of the r,ssociational districts have reported .district League Conventions having been institutrd. Probably one of the greatest g-ains have been n•:ade in the per cnpita g-iving:. This has increased from some over SJ 0.00 last year to about $18.00 this yen:r. It seems difficult to keep up an interest of all phases of the Cause, however, we should remember that all must go on in order to keep a well balanced progTam. Wu have to stay on guard lest the cause g·ets lopsided. Only one church ir; the State failed tn give some phase of the promotional cause and J 21 responded to the Unified Program. which is an increase over that cf last year. The Union, Georgia Union, South Georg-ia and l\Iidway Associations enrolled everv church on their lists fo11 the Unified Pro· • y;ram. The Little River, Georg-ia Union and l\Iidway over ~ubscribed their quotas during the eleven months period.

Here are the GRAND HONOR ROLL CHURCHES for the yen•·. tho~e that made C'0ntributions to the Unified Bn<ket every month:

Harmony of the South Georgia Association and First Columbu.> church of tho:; Chattahoochee, again heads the list, but in reverse order from last year. These two chm•ches gave the most per capita member or the Unified Prog-ram. The others are: In the Chattahoochee- .. Pir~t Thomaston, White Oaks, i.\It. Olive, St. l\Iark and Emmanuel. The Georgia Union-Pleasant Hill, Christian Hill, New Ebenezer and Double Branch. The Little River-Ozias and First Valdosta. Union-Bay, 1\Iidway and Spring Hill. l\lartin-Bellview and ;\It. Gilead. South Georgin-~-'Gnity, St1tilla, l\Tr!rietta, First Savannah, Stoney HilL Glennville and Oak GroYe, Midway Jakin, Cedar Springs, Patmo>', Blakely, First Albany, Hammock Springs anrl Bainbridge. The total is thirty three, nine more than last y,ear.

The Junior Hcnor Roll Churches arc thoo:;e having made six or

more offerings during the year and are as follows: Turners Chapel, Beulah Sp:rings, Liberty Chapel, St. Paul, Greenwood, Colquitt, New Home No. 1, Mother's Home, Ebenezer, Corinth, First Jacksonville, Philadelphia, Pine Level, (S. Ga.) White Pond, New Enterprise, l\facrdonia and Enterprise. The total is seventeen, and four less than lust year, however, the total of all Honor Roll chu!'ches this year is fifty, which is five above last year. We can observe that the Unified Program continues to grow in favor, and to give an idea as to how rapid this growth is, here is the five year's record: In 1950 the re,teipts for the Unified Program was $3,727.08. In 1951 it was $4,649.06. In 1952 it was $5,649.06. In 1053 it was $7,717.86 and 1954 it was $8,374.13. Here is. a sunnnary of the Secretary's activities:

The office routine consisted of issuing the Monthly Bulletin::; (omitting one issue,) the circulation being a filth larger. The coll"espondence ~ome hl•avier than last year and the ledger accounts growmg. On the field, .~fJme ovm· forty five thousand miles were traveled • .Nearly two months bPing spent on the India. Mission fields. This was n.ade possible by the fine wol·k of our Moderator and the cooperation of all concerned. Vuluable information was ohtained on this deputat.ion which has already been of vital interest to many.

The office work was amply taken care . .>f by Mrs.· Morris, while being away. Visit.etl 88 churches, eight Union meetings, two distr)ct Sunday School Conve11tion", two weeks at the Camp, three revivals conducted, State Sunday School Convention and State League Con•:ention, the National A~sociation and one session of the National Home l\Iission Bo:ud nntl :;ome other board and committee sessioJ<~. Delivered 189 sermons and 41 sp<)cial mes.sages. Taught 18 Sunda)' School lesf<om, visited 18 sick and 118 homes. Received 41 membe<S

to churches. conducterl five funerals and married one couple. Assisted in two Church org-t!nizations and assisted in the dedication of one new Church buildin•.?;. Other minor activitic~ toe• numeous to mentio•1. This is to g:ive an idea and not to boast. The Lord be praised TfJJ' nnking it possible fol' ns to go and stay .busv for Him.

There is still much land to be possessed and as Caleb reported to

:Hoses and the Israelites nfter viewing the Promised Land, "Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.'' Num. 13:30. So may we take courage and enter the great fields of s·.orl'ice with a determination to win in the great battle of the Lord.
