NATIONAL SEMINAR SPONSORED BY ICMR, NEW DELHI
Indian Council of Medical Research, New Delhi sponsored Two days National level
seminar on “Pharmacovigilance and Herbal Therapeutics” was organized on 26th and 27th Aug.
2016. The seminar was inaugurated at the auspicious hands of Prof. Dr. Rajendra Kurlapkar,
Joint Secretary, Kasegaon Education Society, Kasegaon. Other dignitaries present were
Prof. Dr. A. V. Yadav, Principal, Gourishankar College of Pharmacy, Limb, Satara, Prof. Dr. C.
S. Magdum, Principal of the host college, Prof. Dr. S. K. Mohite., Vice-Principal of the host
college and Programme co-ordinator Dr. V. R. Salunkhe. Dr. Kurlapkar congratulated the
college for organizing seminar and appealed all the delegates to participate wholeheartedly.
Dr. C. S. Magdum welcomed all the delegates and emphasized on discovering the potential of
herbal drugs as a remedy for the existing diseases and wherever the existing drugs failed to
produce the desired effects. Shri. D. S. Gumate proposed vote of thanks. Number of faculty
members and students from various colleges affiliated to Shivaji University, Kolhapur and other
universities attended the inaugural function. Nearly thirty five faculty members from various
colleges were for the programme. About 808 participants were registered for the seminar.
Eminent speakers from Industry and academia guided the participants.
Dr. S B Bhise, Former Principal of Governemnt College of Pharmacy, Karad elaborated
the role of ICH regulations in Pharmacovigilance , quality control test , sampling , procurement
of raw materials and active pharmaceutical ingredients in pharmaceutical industries. He further
discussed about the intellectual property rights and patent law.
Dr. Sharad Pawar, Research officer, Scientist, Aayush, Pune; detailed about
Pharmacovigilance of Ayurvedic drugs, Ayurvedic preparation, Ayurvedic proprietary
medicine, traditionally used drug development and analysis of volatile principles of crude drugs.
Dr. Vaibhav Shinde, Associate Professor, Poona College of Pharmacy, Pune; explained
regulatory authorities in pharmaceuticals and phytopharmaceuticals around the world. Further he
discussed about the protection of health of public through rules and regulation by central drug
control standard organization and sate food and drug administration of India .
Dr. Ravi Gaware, Manager, Clinical Operations, Boehringer Ingelheim India Pvt. Ltd.,
Mumbai; highlighted role of quality assurance in pharmaceutical dosage form.
Dr. Shaijesh Wankhede, Asst. Manager, Quintiles Pharmaceuticals, Mumbai; explained
the role, duties, functions and responsibilities of the key persons of FDA, CDSCO in India.
Dr. Deepak Langade, Director, Clinsearch Healthcare, Mumbai; discussed
pharmacovigilance and herbal Therapeutics. Further he suggested proper methods of crude drug
analysis.
Synthetic and herbal products were displayed during the seminar in exhibition.
Model presentation competition was organized wherein various models were exhibited. Winnerswere awarded with trophies in the competition during valedictory function. The model presentation winners were as:
