ActivitiesThe following set of activities can be implemented in the order suggested or in other

order, at your convenience. What matters is to complete all of them before the

    week ends.

Part 1. Weekly meta-reflection (25 points)A meta-reflection is an illation of ideas that threads prior reflections. In ICTE this

exercise implies to review lessons learned by all participants from last week

activities and to generate new ideas as educators who want to develop experience-

    based knowledge.

Collecting gems from Week 1 lessons learned

Use the button to find and press the VIEW link in

. You can review prior postings in several ways, these are

    two very useful:

    1. If you want to see what was posted per day, use Calendar hyperlinks to

have access to interventions posted on specific dates. First ICTE course week

started on September 16, will end September 23, 2009.

    2. Use FILTERS to select authors (all, one by one).

Read each of the postings from week 1, copy and paste to your text processor thoseideas that call your attention. At the end of the review process youll have a

collection of gems that will help in your meta-reflection.

Contributing to , a collective meta-

    reflection

Use the gems you collected reviewing week 1 lessons learned to add value to a

collaborative creation in [Course blogs View Meta-reflection wiki Week 1 meta-

    reflection]

Press the Meta-reflection wiki View link. It will take you to the wiki HOMEpage. Press the Week 1 meta-reflection link under the Site Navigation section at

    the right column.

If you are the first person contributing, use your gems to support your ideas

on how to improve teaching with the use of forums, blogs, and wikis, as well

as with other ICTEs explored in week 1.

If you are not the first contributor, read what others have said, edit what can

be necessary with the idea of adding value to this collective creation. Includenew thoughts, thread old postings, bring new opportunities or challenges in

    regard to ICTEs studied.

Include icons, pictures, links, use colors or indentations, to promote good form.

Use theTIPCS rubric to self-assess quality of this collaborative creation.

Part 2. Record and upload to Internet a short video to be used

in one of your courses (15 points)

    Recording a short video

A short video means no longer than 10 minutes, which is the size limit permitted in

YouTube. If you do not have webcam available, stop by the computer lab at 203

OKelly Library and use one there.

    1. Press the WEBCAM ICON (right bottom side of the screen) and then use

CAPTURE to open the camera interface. Keep the microphone near you.

    2. Press the [Record a video] button to start recording. Deliver a message to an

audience of your interest. Use the STOP button to finish. Use the PLAY button

    to review your recording.

    3. Use the FILE SAVE AS sequence to save the file that you want to post on

    Internet. QUIT when done.

    Uploading your video to Internet

Before uploading video to Internet, decide where to do it. Use

P tools or click on the links in this Learning Unit to explore information availableabout video-publishing services such as School Tube, TeacherTube,

YouTube. If you are not familiar with any of these video services, use thecorresponding tutorial, create your account if needed, and upload your video to the

    site.

Once you have uploaded your video to the selected site, copy the URL

    where it is available.

Discussing video episodes with your students

Research (Nemirovsky and Galvis, 2008) shows that grounded discussions matter 1

when you want to build knowledge from videos. That is, video-based discussions to

be effective should be grounded in the specifics of the video case.

Press REPLY to the discussion thread where you pasted your video episode.

In the Message area write a grounded discussion seed to invite your

students to reflect and debate the video you selected. Use the Subject

area to include a relevant title.

Review at least another video episode and the corresponding discussion

seed. Press REPLY to comment on the proposed intervention.

Use the TIGER Rubric to self-assess quality of your two postings.

Part 4. Exploring an ICTE of your interest (20 points)

Choose an ICTE to explore on week 2, individually or in groupThis week you have at least three alternative ICTEs to explore. See which one is of

    your interest.

    Option 1: Explore ITunesU

If your students can benefit from audio or video casting to mobile devices, take

some time to review the opportunities in ITunesU. In P

tools iTunesU as well as in this Learning Unit you will find informationabout how to download iTunes U and several video tutorials.

Option 2: Explore an ICTE of your interest

If you have not decided what ICTEs to explore through the course, please do it right

away. Press to investigate ICTEs in each of the five categories.

Take into account that some of them will be taught by course facilitators (see the

first column of the course program, page 3), so do not include them in your

    exploration plan.

Option 3: Explore with a friend an ICTE of mutual interest

Press on the Who knows what spreadsheet link at the beginning of

area to find out what ICTEs will be explored by your small group
