IDIGHProgram
Dear Symposium Attendees,
It is with great pleasure that the Infectious Diseases andImmunity in Global Health Program (IDIGH) of the ResearchInstitute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC)welcomes you to join its fifth annual Symposium.
The objective of the IDIGH Symposium is to provide a platformfor all participants to interact and exchange research ideas inthe area of infectious diseases, immunity and global health. Each year the symposium brings together approximately 250attendees from more than 40 different academic researchdepartments, centers and institutions or companies. They aregraduate students, established researchers, highly qualifiedresearch professionals or representatives of companies thatprovide a broad range of lab equipment, drugs, chemicals, newtechnologies and services. The synergies emerging from oursymposium lead to innovative new collaborations not onlyamong the RI-MUHC/McGill groups but also in the largerCanadian and international Global Health communities. Thisecosystem contributes to the training of our students who willconstitute the workforce of tomorrow.
The 2019 IDIGH Symposium is focusing on translationalresearch across the life span. We are grateful for theparticipation of our guest speakers who are leading experts inthe fields of parasitology (Dr. Kevin Kain), HIV and clinical trials(Dr. Sharon Walmsley), susceptibility and immune responsesto sexually transmitted viruses (Dr. Charu Kaushic) andmolecular mechanisms of autoimmune diseases (Dr. KatherineSiminovitch). We are looking forward to learning about thelatest results of their cutting-edge research and are enthusiasticto learn from their valuable experience.

IDIGHProgram
The Infectious Diseases and Immunity in Global Health (IDIGH)program is comprised of 60 fundamental research scientistsand clinicians who jointly tackle infectious and immune-mediated diseases of global importance and are affiliated withfour centres: Centre for Translational Biology, Centre for HealthOutcomes Research, Centre for Innovative Medicine and McGill.
The program focuses on 5 major research areas based onsocietal need, economic opportunity and expertise of IDIGHmembers: respiratory infections (tuberculosis and influenza);viral infections (HIV, Hepatitis B and C virus); allergy, auto-immunity and immune regulation in health and disease(systemic lupus erythematosus, rheumatoid arthritis, foodallergy, dermatitis); fungal and bacterial infections and immuneimpaired patients (aspergillosis, candidiasis, pseudomonas, CF);and global and neglected infectious diseases (malaria, leprosy, leishmaniasis, helminthiasis).
The program acts as catalyst for multidisciplinary interactionsand puts emphasis on translational objectives. This approachtaken by the IDIGH program allows it to have a global impactin the improvement of patient care and health policies forinfectious and immune-mediated diseases.
