Message from Chairman

IEEE Madras section welcomes the readers of monthly Newsletter 5th edition,

started functioning from Feb 2018, by Dr. Joseph Gladwin, editor. ExeCom

meeting was held at Sri Eshwar College of Engineering, Coimbatore on 16th

June 2018, hosted and inaugural address was given by Dr. Sudha Mohanram,

Principal. It was an opportunity to visit the campus, growth of an education

institution was highlighted, MoUs were signed with different industries and

created Centre of excellence. It was also noticed that many students are being

trained along with the regular course work, few students are ready for the

startup imitative. Post ExeCom meeting, membership development program

titled "Discussion with IEEE Madras Section Chair" was arranged, Student

members and faculties, total strength of around 25 were participated. Discussions on benefits of IEEE

members, awards, demanded to organize workshops and technical program initiatives from the IEEE

Madras section through societies.

I am glad to inform you that IEEE Madras section sponsored Rs. 15,000/- per participant in addition to

the IEEE R10 sponsorship of $1000 for the R10 SYWL Congress. Participation in four categories

Student, Women in Engineering, Young Professional and Life member were nominated to attend

program proposed to be held Bali, Indonesia, 30th Aug - 2nd Sept 2018.

Online requests through IEEE HQrs., website to submit the nominations with the contributions for the

awards, competitions, technical and special event participation at global level periodically. It was found

very limited nominations, few education institutions regularly submits their nominations in the last

minute.

SBCs to take initiative, monitor and submit the nominations online registration well in advance, most of

the awards, symposiums, and other programs details can be obtained from the websites, clarifications in

this regard can be obtained from the IEEE Madras section. Publication committee, actively involved in

posting emails as the reminder and also to publish through Newsletter.

IEEE Madras section is focusing on improving student skill development in a way to organize different

technical meetings, workshops, in addition to the student branch activities being held at their premises.

Three days Faculty development programs were approved, under the leadership of Dr. Devaraj D, at

different geographical locations. Initiatives from the education institutions like formation of new student

branches and student chapters are getting approved progressively.

I am also finding a lot of application requests of online international conference registrations, as it was

mentioned in my previous newsletter, sufficient care was taken to impose certain criteria for the quality

conference. Looking forward for your kind suggestions, encouragement and support in a way to get new

members, chapters and volunteers for the growth of IEEE Madras section initiatives and to obtain

outstanding awards.

Message from Editor

Greetings..!

The June edition of IEEE MAS Newsletter is published. The month of June is the

start of academic sessions and I take this wonderful opportunity to wish all

academic institutions, a successful year ahead. Today the educational

institutions focus on research as its primary component and traditional

learning is converted to outcome based education. Accordingly there arise a

severe need to redefine the objectives of learning, concentrating on research

and skill development.

IEEE is an umbrella, providing a range of equal opportunities to aspiring engineers. It is a best platform for

networking, remain technically current, understand and volunteer events in local geographic area and

globally. IEEE Madras section is one of largest sections globally and it has been a constant endeavour to

organise quality events and support students and professionals to update their technical knowledge by way

of workshops, faculty development programs and conferences.

At this juncture, I wish to invite your attention that the IEEE Madras Section have come up with a new

website that is rather more user friendly and self-descriptive, providing ample information in a lucid

manner. Have a good look at the website and you may provide valuable suggestions for further

improvement. The website url is www.ieeemadras.org.

I wish all readers a fruitful time in accomplishing your job; Looking forward for your valuable

suggestions, encouragement and support in a way to get new members, chapters and volunteers for the

growth of IEEE Madras section initiatives and to obtain outstanding awards.

Dr. S. Joseph Gladwin M.E., Ph.D. Associate Professor, ECE Department

SSN College of Engineering Kalavakkam - 603 110. Chennai.
