• IFCOS is a voluntary association of individuals & organisations,
• with an interest in the development, promotion and use of standards of competence in the construction industry.
• Membership is by providing information on the standards system used in your country.
• IFCOS was created and is managed by Nigel Lloyd.
Background
• IFCOS was formed in 2005 by the participants in a 4 day workshop benchmarking UK construction occupational standards against those from other countries.
• In 2006 the IFCOS project was created to explore international experience in ‘off-site’ (modern) methods of construction. Another 4 day workshop was held.
• In 2008 IFCOS is a partner in APL-Bud project.

• Members in Australia, Belgium, Canada, Estonia, Germany, New Zealand, Poland, Romania, UK
• Comparative framework of occupational standards with 9 dimensions of the institutional system + 9 dimensions describing the structure of the standards
• Comparative table showing the construction sector standards systems for 9 countries (but needs refreshing)
IFCOS in APL-Bud
• 2-way channel to construction occupational standards worldwide: – identifying relevant experience – dissemination of APL-Bud results
• Representing UK experience (ConstructionSkills Sector Skills Council, Built Environment Skills Alliance, Construction Skills Certification Scheme)
