ExLibrisAn Israeli based company and one of the largest in the industry, Ex Libris is a leader worldwide. The company focuses primarily on academic and research institutions and offers two primary systems – Aleph and Voyager. Worth noting as well, the company is seeing success with its new discovery platform, Primo. This is a solid company that has seen very solid sales even through the recession.

Innovative Interfaces Inc.Perhaps “the Cadillac” of integrated library systems, Innovative (or “triple i” as they are referred to in the industry offers a suite of products and cater to all markets. Their flagship ILS, Millennium, shows strong sales and offers a number of add-ons to include a mobile version, AirPAC, and  My Millennium – a dashboard interface for the end-user. Innovative has also moved into the discovery platform market with not just a discovery platform, but rather a discovery suite. III is a privately owned company and has been since its formation.

SirsiDynixSirsi is the system used here at the Indiana University and IUPUI campus libraries (as well as other sister campuses). This is perhaps the largest ILS in the industry or one of them. Sirsi offers two primary systems – Horizon and Symphony – and they also produce a discovery platform titled Enterprise. The market for Sirsi products is wide covering special, public and academic libraries. This is a solid company with a good standing in the library world.

EOSEOS primarily markets to the special library and has been producing technology for libraries for 30 years. EOS has recently launched EOS.Web Academic – an ILS designed to meet the needs of academic libraries and give the company a share in this market. EOS is a solid company with a good standing.

Page 22: ILS Industry

InmagicInmagic is an interesting company that once had a focus on the special library. But with a recent infusion of cash investments has been able to branch out in another direction. The company now focuses primarily on a knowledge-driven system in the form of their newest ILS – Presto. They still support Genie, but now market it as part of a Library Suite. Presto represents a new direction being taken in terms of managing knowledge and support knowledge networks through the use of social networking concepts and tools. With customers such as NASA using their products, Inmagic is a top-notch company. And, it may be unfair to have them in this category.

Page 23: ILS Industry

SoftlinkAn Australian-based company, Softlink markets their Liberty ILS all over the world. They primarily focus on special libraries, but also market to school libraries and smaller public libraries. One item of note in relation to Softlink is they pride themselves on customer service. I can validate this because I was a customer for several years.

CybertoolsCybertools designs a system for special and academic libraries with a concentration on serials and electronic resource management (ERM).

From Cybertools:

CyberTools for Libraries is a high-end Integrated Library System with one of the most powerful Serials Management and ERM modules available. Unique and powerful research tools, with elegant product design focused on finely-tuned efficiencies for time-challenged information managers, make CyberTools a great fit for all Special and Academic Libraries.
