What is Management Information System?

A management information system (MIS) provides information that organizations

require to manage themselves efficiently and effectively. Management informationsystems are typically computer systems used for managing five primary components:

Col Needham founder and CEO of IMDb on 17 th October, 1990 posted a lot of scripts

that allowed the users to search a list of credits gathered using a terrific USENET group

addressed as rec.arts.movies. Four years post this it was named as IMDb.com . IMDb

is rated as worlds most classical and popular informant for TV, Celebrity content and

movie reviews and is considered to be the biggest database on earth. In respect to the

rising need to keep IMDb accurate, useful and timely and an immediate demand from

professional filmmaking community, ImdbPro.com and Publicity photo service was

launched in the early 2000s.

In past 22 years of IMDb, he made sure all the needs of movie lovers before going in for

a good movie gets fulfilled. IMDb claims to have statistics of 2,461,431 movie titles and

counting and collection since 1888 to 2020*, of different languages, genres, tastes,

ethnicity, etc. Though there are other sites which deal in the same business of rating

and reviewing but imdb is considered to be the ultimate package and accurate of all. It

is a one spot for deriving all possible information .The database contained is updated

almost every day whereas certain news changes even on a more frequent basis.

keeping a track of the movies and television shows we like or didnt like.

The reliability of information is guaranteed as the basic sources of information are

filmmakers, studios and bulk information is also gathered from industry people .The

IMDb keep track of different awards given worldwide such as Oscars, Golden Globes,Emmys, etc., Film Festivals like Cannes and nominees of those awards. Box officereports and stats that are updated daily or weekly depending on range of votes a movieis getting. Birthday, gossips, parties, updated release dates of movies, directors cut(original editorial movies), DVDs and Blue ray disc release dates, option of managingviewers personal list, latest trailers, new signings for new movies, promotion of movies,and even show timings in different cities all around the world, and much more. Theyalso allow viewers to upload their own work. They keep critical reports of movies, DVDback cover details and all the details of a movie that a person wants. All of theinformation on IMDB would be stored on a powerful computer or a network ofcomputers that contain database software, and collectively is known as a Database

Management System (DBMS).

The DBMS is browsed by the users through a web-interface that is easy to use andrequires little training or instruction. End users are able to search the database andcross reference song titles, band members and styles. The ability to do this suggeststhat the database would be relational.

The main trouble with the tide in piracy is due to modification in technology. Having acloser look at piracy and technology, it was an unavoidable path. It has largely affected

the movie industry and has turned to be a serious making business. Since

entertainment industry is such a lucrative business, distribution and stealing of the

copyrighted movies has been taken into consideration by the parent companies in the

The most critical reason for flaming success of imdb is due to the high speed

bandwidth.

Social media like facebook and twitter play an active part in affecting the usage andsuccess of imdb. Even the imdb app offered in androids and apple has integrated social

2 .What changes in information technology have these problems

caused the movie / music /television studios to make?

Human brain was never meant to hold lots and lots of information, thats when

encyclopaedias and dictionary took over. Now IT has taken it to next level. Sites like,

Wikipedia and IMDb have become one stop shop for information gatherer. Choosing in

for adequate softwares, hardwares, portals, management instruments etc are helpful for

any company in an industry in achieving outright excellence.

IMDb has affected movies and television industry very much. Following are the

PiracyPiracy is considered to be the biggest threat of recent times for the

movie industry. The only thing protecting the movie industry from the disease of

piracy is the file size. Certain measures are evolved by the industry people to

prevent piracy as it cannot be out rightly weeded out. One major factor

contributing toward the uprise of piracy is the postponing of the release date ofmovies. Not just IMDb or, Youtube but the whole industy is facing a great

problem to fight the the Pirates. Content containment has become an issue that

is being tried by IMDb to protect. IMDb is spreading awareness through their

the film area becoming more advanced and well-defined. IMDB is justifiably the

buzzword for the years to come in the IT and digitalization domain.

INNOVATIONS AND CORPORATE STRATEGY

My first intuition is that the U.S. and U.K. film knowledge in the database is growing

exponentially with little effort on IMDb's part, so they'lltry to make sure that the rest of

the film world is better and better represented as they go forward.

I also expect more foreign language versions of the site. Bollywood being such a strong

source of new movies and moviegoers, perhaps that's where IMDB will focus next.

They're already top-of-the-mind in the U.S.it's time for world domination!

2. The site in general, keeps on top of technology pretty darned well, and the UX may

be cluttered but its function is quite good for such a massive, complex database.

It's not an Earth-shattering prediction to say that they'll continue to make the site more

user-friendly, searches more powerful, and also make it more attractive to mobile users

who can't wait 'cause they've just gotta remember that one guy who did that thing,

y'know... or who just have to settle an argument with their significant other before it

drives 'em both nuts.

3. Revenue-wise, between ads and their tie to Amazon, I believe they are moving right

along, but I expect IMDb Pro will become a larger focus for the company. The insider-

only info there for industry folks is cool but (I believe) they'll need to show potential

users the ROI to really get IMDb Pro to take off.

4. Video will continue to become more prominent on the site... for better and for worse...

as it has been for the last year or two. (Pls., IMDb, don't forget the tech that's on the

user end when making everything as fancy as can be on your end.)

5. Prediction that's a bit more out of left-field...I'd like to see IMDb, which is not justan

Internet *Movie* Database anymore, but also an Internet television database, make

concerted efforts to become the go-to resource for music video information, as well.Many actors cross over into music videos (and vice-versa), especially early in their

careers, and of course many talented t.v. and film directors (and other crew) have also

done music vids, so IMDb would be a great place to collect this interrelated info

In the above figure we can see the description of databases, explaining the

extracted imdb databases, extracted movie lens database, reference

database, integrated database and benchmark database. It basically

explains the extraction and integration of imdb and movie lens data.

Revenue Model.

IMDbs revenue is generated from different sources. But two of its major source of

revenue are IMDb Publicity Photo Services and its two distinct user groups which

includes movie loving consumers and entertainment industry professionals.

IMDb Publicity Photo Services was added in early 2001 to give actors and

crewmembers already credited on IMDb.com the ability to add photographs to theirlistings. The self-service system also provides an opportunity for filmmakers to promote

new projects, for stunt people to show their talents, and animators to showcase their

work. IMDb charges a one-time fee of $35 to place a photo on the site and $10 for each

additional photo.

and entertainment industry professionals were accessing IMDb.com. With that in

mind, a separate premium subscription service was launched in December 2001.

IMDbPro is targeted to industry professionals directors, casting agents, producers,

programming executives, movie critics, and others. They pay $12.95 per month (or

$99.95 for a full year) to access a directory of more than 10,000 companies and the

names of more than 55,000 contacts, as well as use message boards and review

entertainment news from The Hollywood Reporter. Additional online tools allow

subscribers to track the popularity rankings of the movies (MOVIEmeter) and actors

(STARmeter) listed in the database, become privy to worldwide box-office data, track

production schedules for more than 1,500 film and television projects, and view an up-

to-date calendar of film festivals and events.

Imdb was bought by Amazon for 2 reasons:
