Immortality Only in Christ

Conditional immortality Premise: Immortality of the soul is only through Jesus.

Those who are not in Christ are judged according to their deeds and eventually annihilated. This theory allows for the

Justice of God yet still upholds His mercy.

The insistence of eternal conscious suffering is founded upon the Platonic idea of the incorruptibleness of the soul,

justifying it scripturally from the Genesis account. “God breathed into Adam and he became a living soul”

concluding, because God is immortal, the soul is immortal. This is true but only if one is “in” Christ Jesus.

Gen2(7) And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life (Chay); and man became a living (chay) soul. (Nephesh)

Chay = the quickening force to make alive Nephesh= breath of a living being -the man himself, self, person or individual

KJ Gen 2(19) And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living (Nephesh) creature, that was the name thereof.

Had the translators used the same word (Soul) in Gen 2(7) it would have been “Adam called every soul (Nephesh) creature” that was the name thereof.

It was the Chay that made both Nephesh

God created Man as an immortal being, however through deception, doubt, and the

choice of rebellion, death was inherited.

Gen 2(15-17) 15 Then the LORD God took the man and put him into the garden of Eden to cultivate it and keep it. 16 The LORD God

commanded the man, saying, “From any tree of the garden you may eat freely; 17 but from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you

eat from it you will surely die.”

The first Adam’s choice brought us death.The last Adam’s choice brought us life.

The first Adam was not obedient. The last Adam was obedient.

Romans 6(9-11) 9 knowing that Christ, having been raised from the dead, is never to die again; death no longer is master over Him. 10 For the death that He died, He died to sin once for all; but the life(Zao) that He lives,(Zao) He lives to(Zao) God. 11 Even so consider yourselves to be dead to sin, but alive(Zao)to God in Christ Jesus.

It is life, in the breath of God in Christ, that gives immortality to the individual.

1Cor 15(45) so also it is written, “The first MAN, Adam, BECAME A LIVING (zoa) SOUL. (Psyche)” The last Adam became a life-giving (zōopoieō) spirit. 

(Zoo-poieo) life – to make ( to make alive)

(Psyche)= lit. "To raise the breath, or to lift the soul," signifies "to hold in suspense," (the individual person with a unique mind, will and emotions).

O.T. Chay = the quickening force to make alive O.T. Nephesh= breath of a living being -the man himself, self, person or individual

Know Jesus Have Life John 3(36) He who believes in the Son has eternal

(aiōnios) life(Zoe); but he who does not obey the Son will not see life, (Zoe) but the wrath of God abides on him.”

1John 5 (11-12) 11 and the testimony is this, that God has given us eternal (aiōnios) life,(Zoe) and this life(Zoe) is in His Son. 12 He who has the Son has the life; (Zoe) he who does not have the Son of God does not have the life. (Zoe)

Zoe= zō-ā' the Quickening breath of God to make us a living being.

Aionios ī-ō'-nē-os = age of

Immortality is only in King Jesus

I Tim 1(15-17) It is a trustworthy statement, deserving full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners, among whom I am foremost of all. 16 Yet for this reason I found mercy, so that in me as the foremost, Jesus Christ might demonstrate His perfect patience as an example for those who would believe in Him for eternal (Aion) life. (Zoë) 17 Now to the King eternal (Aion), immortal, (aphthartos) invisible, the only God, be honor and glory forever (Aion) and ever (Aion). Amen.  

King Eternal (Aion)= describes the ruler of the ages

Immortal (aphthartos) ä-fthär-sē'-ä not liable to corruption or decay, imperishable 

For Ever (Aion=unto age) & ever (Aion=age)

Romans 6(23) For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal(Aion) life(Zoe) in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Zoe= Quickening breath of God to make us a living being

Aion= age of

II Tim 1(10) but it now has been revealed by the appearing of our Savior Christ Jesus, who abolished death and brought life (Zoe) and immortality (Aftharsea) to light through the gospel 

Immortality (ä-fthär-sē'-ä)= perpetual incorruption the state of continuing forever

1Cor 15(53-55) 53 for this perishable must

put on the imperishable, and this mortal must put on

immortality. (Aftharsea) 54 But when this perishable

will have put on the imperishable, and this mortal will have put on

immortality (Aftharsea), then will come about the

saying that is written, “DEATH IS SWALLOWED UP

in victory. 55 O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR VICTORY? O DEATH, WHERE IS YOUR

STING?”

(Ephraim judged for Bail (worship)  Hosea 13(3) Therefore they will

be like the morning cloud And like dew, which soon disappears, like chaff, which is blown away from the threshing floor, And like smoke from a chimney.  

Hosea 13(14) Shall I ransom them from the power of Sheo’l? Shall I redeem them from death? O Death, where are your thorns? O Sheo’l, where is your sting? Compassion will be hidden from my sight.

No Jesus, No Immortality Malachi 4(1) For behold, the day is coming,

burning like a furnace; and all the arrogant and every evildoer will be chaff; and the day that is coming will set them ablaze,” says the LORD of hosts, “so that it will leave them neither root nor branch.”

Psalm 21(9) you will make them as a fiery oven in the time of your anger; The LORD will swallow them up in His wrath, and fire will devour them.

Psalm 37(20) But the wicked will

perish; and the enemies of the LORD will be

like the glory of the pastures,

they vanish—like smoke they vanish

away.

Matt 10(28) “Do not fear those who kill the body but are unable to kill the soul;(Psyche) but

rather fear Him who is able to destroy

both soul (Psyche) and body in hell.

The Day of JudgmentRevelation 20 (11-15) 11 Then I saw a great white throne and Him who sat upon it, from whose presence earth and heaven fled away, and no place was found for them. 12 And I saw the dead, the great and the small, standing before the throne, and books were opened; and another book was opened, which is the book of life;(Zoe) and the dead were judged from the things, which were written in the books, according to their deeds. 13 And the sea gave up the dead, who were in it, and death and Hades gave up the dead, who were in them; and they were judged, every one of them according to their deeds. 14 Then death and Hades were thrown into the lake of fire. This is the second death, the lake of fire. 15 And if anyone’s name was not found written in the book of life, (Zoe) he was thrown into the lake of fire.

Those found in the book of Life(Zoe) Judgments 1 Cor 3 (11-14)11 For no man can lay a foundation other

than the one which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. 12 Now if any man builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw, 13 each man’s work will become evident; for the day will show it because it is to be revealed with fire, and the fire itself will test the quality of each man’s work. 14 If any man’s work which he has built on it remains, he will receive a reward. 15 If any man’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss; but he himself will be saved, yet so as through fire. 

2 Cor. 5(10)For we must all appear before the judgment seat (bema) of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad
