ThisnewZISPOAcoursebuildsonthefoundationsofthesuccessfulOctober‐December2015GUD‐PulsarcourseatParaleloVivoon“StrategicPlanningforanIndependência‐FlorestaSustainableInnovationZone”(seePOAdigitalvideo:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=My7jYLIsa_I).
Inthatpreviouscourse,manyparticipantsbeganorganizingaPortoAlegreSustainableInnovationZone(ZISPOA)inthesetwoneighborhoodsofthe4thDistrict.Courseparticipantscreatedworkinggroupsbasedoneachofthesixkeyelements:1)InnovationandTechnology;2)EntrepreneurshipandStartups;3)SustainabilityandResourceEfficiency;4)CreativityandCollaboration;5)ParticipatoryCommunityManagement;and6)Business‐FriendlyEnvironment.
ThesesixworkinggroupseachconductedaninitialAssetMappingandNetworkAnalysis,andthendevelopedStrategicActionInitiativesthattheypresentedtoalargeaudienceof75peopleatthefinalclasssessiononDecember15.TheworkinggroupshavebeenimplementingtheirStrategicActionInitiativessinceJanuary,includingsolartreesinZISPOA,partnershipswithJuniorEnterpriseandAIESECatUFRGS,SustainableInnovationSeminarsincollaborationwithNetImpact(beginningwithawell‐attendedMarch12seminaronSustainableEntrepreneurship),theFirstAnnualZISPOAFestivalatVilaFloresonMay21,sustainableurbangeoinformationandecocitizenmappingwithseveralinternationalpartnersstartingwithawebinaronApril11,PortoAlegre’sfirst‐evermonthlyGreenDrinksonApril1aspartofViradaSustentávelactivities,abusiness‐friendlyZISPOAinformationwebsite,aZISPOAFacebookpage,participatorysustainablecommunitydevelopmentplanningwith3C,community‐basedrecycling

withDMLUandMãosVerdes,developingaZISPOAmarketingstrategyandanelectriccarsharingfeasibilitystudytogetherwithbusinessmanagementfacultyandstudentsatUFRGS,andmuchmore.
CurrentlyZISPOAisfocusedonbecomingthemostsustainableandinnovativeplaceinLatinAmericaby2020throughaccomplishingfivemajorgoals:1)MostSolarPowered;2)MostEnergyEfficient;3)MostDigitallyConnected;4)MostRenewableTechnology‐Friendly;and5)MostBike‐Friendly.
Toachievethesegoals,ZISPOAandNósCoworkingarecollaboratingwiththeSwedishGovernment’sSmartLivingChallengeglobalnetworkonaseriesoftechnicalexpertwebinars,beginningonApril28withaninternationalconversationabout“SharingforSustainableMobility”includingelectriccarsharing,bikesharing,andgaragesharingforPortoAlegre’sSustainableInnovationZone.
OnevitalpurposeofthisnewcourseistoenablemanymorepeopletojointhesixworkinggroupsandbecomeactivelyinvolvedinfurtherorganizingZISPOA.Thisactivitywillincludecontinuingtoengageinthecurrentactions,aswellasdevelopingnewStrategicActionInitiativestobeimplementedbytheworkinggroupsandmanyotherpeopleandorganizationsbeginninginMay,June,andJuly.PulsarandGUDwillprovidementoringinclassforworkinggroupmeetings.
