FRIDAY ASSEMBLY It was a musical extravaganza last Friday! Mrs Thorn kicked off the assembly with some “whole school” singing, with all the students particularly enjoying and boogying along to the second song “Green Eggs and Ham”. It was then clear for all to see why Miss Wallace’s choir was selected to join the NSW School’s Spectacular. They sang a beautiful, goose bump inducing, rendition of “Hallelujah” made famous by Jeff Buckley. After the first minor draw of the Yr 5/6 fundraising MEGA raffle was drawn and awards were given to 1000 Minute Readers and class award winners, it was back to more music. Lily Jessop sang “All of Me”, Malayna and Clare sang “Impossible” and Marika and Miss Wallace completed the music items by performing on the marimba’s. Well done to all! WEEKLY SCHOOL RULE The focus this week is the blue rule “keep hands, feet, mouth and objects to myself”

We ask that you reinforce this week’s rule at home with your child.

NEWS FROM OUR PRINCIPAL MR TREVOR MULLIGAN

FINANCE SYSTEM TRANSITION Urunga Public School will transition to the new NSW Public Schools’ finance system and a new bank account on 4 September 2017. To ensure a smooth transition, there will be changes to the way we accept payments from parents and carers. Cash and cheque payments: Between 28 August 2017 and 6 September

2017, we will not be able to accept payments by cash or cheque as we prepare to close our current bank account and transition to the new one. Please ensure that you have made any outstanding cash or cheque payments before 28 August 2017. From 6 September 2017, cash and cheque payments will be accepted as before.

Parent Online Payments (POP): As of 23 August 2017, payments to our current online payment facility

via the school website will cease. You will not be able to use the Department of Education’s Parent Online Payment (POP) system until Monday 6 September.

Thank you for your patience and understanding as we transition to our new finance system. If you have any questions, please contact myself or the school office on 6655 6393.

COMMUNITY SUPPORT On behalf of our school, its students and the community it serves, I would like to acknowledge the great support from those parents and students who braved the wet and trying conditions last Saturday at Bellingen Markets. Your support is very much appreciated for getting to the markets at 6:00 am to help the Stage 3 students raise funds towards their Canberra excursion. Your tremendous efforts raised enough so that the cost per student has decreased by $10 each. It may not sound like much but every little bit helps and the fundraising carried out thus far is getting nearer to the $5,000 target set. Congratulations to Miss Wallace and Mr Patterson for their efforts which has taken up much of their valuable time as well. And to Jamie Sherwood, a parent, for initiating the discussions with the Bellingen Market

Committee – a BIG THANK YOU.

SCHOOL ATHLETICS CARNIVAL Our school athletics carnival is on tomorrow, Wednesday 21st June. All students will leave school at 9.30am and walk to the Urunga Recreation Grounds. Parents are invited to attend the carnival. There will be a canteen running at the rec grounds selling hot foods, snacks and drinks. Students are to wear their house colours: Bellinger—Blue and Kalang—Yellow. Good luck to all the participants. Helen Hoffman

GIRLS SOCCER KNOCK OUT - ROUND 3 This week our girls have once again snatched victory to progress through to Round 4 of the soccer knockout competition. We played Nambucca Heads Public School on Friday, here in Urunga. While the other fields were soaking wet, Mr McCabe had very kindly set up the ‘dry’ field for us to play on. The weather held off and while it was a tougher tussle than we’ve had previously, we were successful. Eliza Cross played well as goalie, managing to move and hold out most goals. The girls shared the goals at the other end, with Lulu McGrath, Malayna Penn, Tahahni Berger and Jade Smith all managing to score. Final score – 4- 2 to Urunga. Our next game is against Aldavilla Public School in Kempsey on Thursday. Thanks again to our cheer squad for coming to support us. Miss Wallace

STAGE 3 MEGA RAFFLE - WEEK 8 PRIZE WINNERS—BELLO MARKETS The Stage 3 MEGA Raffle had their first minor prize draw at Friday’s assembly. Congratulations to Chantal who won a great fishing rod. Let’s hope she has many relaxing fishing days. There will be another minor draw on the last day of school at the NAIDOC assembly. Remember to keep selling those tickets! A massive thank you to all of the staff, parents, students and helpers for their efforts on Saturday at the Bellingen Markets. Despite the heavy rain turning away lost of visitors to the markets, we had lots of people who kindly donated to support our Stage 3 Excursion. We raised $560 on the day. Your generosity is greatly appreciated in supporting our school! Mr Patterson & Miss Wallace

NEWS FROM OUR COMMUNITY LIAISON OFFICER JENNY LUXON

SPOTLIGHT ON K/1G

Classroom Teacher: Miss George Number of Students: 23 Every week is an interesting week in K/1G. Recently we have planted grass seeds as part of our “Needs of Living Things’ unit. We have enjoyed watching our grassy heads sprout from seedlings into bushy, lush grassy heads. We reward hard workers and good behaviour by drawing out names in our weekly win bin draw. OUR FAVOURITE CLASSROOM ACTIVITIES ARE: We love to play “buzz off hairy legs” to practice our skip counting by 2’s, 5’s and 10’s. We love to take turns using our interactive 100 chart. Other activities include art, reading, P.E, computer station and puzzles. We also love to include movement into our maths lessons. We love playing “heads down thumbs up” as a reward for completing our set tasks!

Coming Event: NAIDOC Celebrations on Thursday the 29th and

Friday the 30th of June
