Our merger with Marlborough Savings Bank has been official since April 1, 2017, and we’re excited to continue to help you with your banking as Main Street Bank! Our legal merger is complete but our systems still need to get on board, which will be finished as of June 5, 2017.

What does this mean for you?

We are combining banking systems so that all of our branches can completely service all customers. As a result, there will be changes to your accounts but we’re here for you! Our top priority is to make this transition as smooth as possible for you.

For your convenience and peace of mind, we’ve gathered together any changes or important questions you may have, and provided direct answers.

This insert is a guide to all the changes that will take place, and the impacts they may have on your current North Middlesex Savings Bank accounts.

A Great Start Together

CDs and IRAsIf you have a Certificate of Deposit (CD) or Individual Retirement Account (IRA) CD, the current terms and conditions of your account will remain in effect until maturity . Your existing CD or IRA CD will continue to earn interest at the same rate and mature on the same schedule that you selected when you opened the account . All interest earned on CDs will be compounded monthly . At maturity, your CD or IRA CD will renew under the terms and conditions offered by Main Street Bank for CD and IRA CD products at that time . Your CD and IRA CD account numbers will NOT change .

The CD passbook era has come to a close. Now you can request CD monthly updates on your checking or savings statement!

Main Street Bank will be the Custodian for Individual Retirement Accounts (IRA) . For questions, please contact Diane Taralli at 508-460-4125 .

CD Early Withdrawal PenaltyWe may impose an early withdrawal penalty if you withdraw any of the principal before the stated maturity date . Any withdrawals prior to maturity may reduce earnings . The early withdrawal penalty is equal to 50 percent of the interest that would have been earned should the CD have matured . These penalties are all based upon a 30 day month . For example, on a 7-month CD term, 105 days (3 .5 months) of interest could be forfeited as a penalty for early withdrawal . The penalty is calculated as a forfeiture of part of the interest that has been or would be earned on the account . It applies whether or not the interest has been earned . In other words, if the account has not yet earned enough interest or if the interest has already been paid, the penalty will be deducted from the principal . In certain circumstances, such as the death or incompetence of an owner of this account, the law permits, or in some cases requires, the waiver of the early withdrawal penalty . Other exceptions may also apply, for example, if this is part of an IRA or other tax-deferred savings plan .
