2016 Impact Report
Medical model vs Social model of disability
Does the language we use influence the way we think?
Doctors pinpoint an illness or deficiency within a child – a medical/biological reason for being different.
Move from “labelling” children as the problem to examine the factors that contribute to their diagnosis and consider how society can adapt to meet the child’s needs.
Disabled….Or differently abled?

3As – Aspirations, Access and Achievement
Aspiration: Includes but is not limited to:• Motivation• Orientation• Self-concept• Self-efficacy
Access: Includes but is not limited to:• Engagement• Exclusionary barriers• Opportunity• Participation
Achievement: Includes
but is not limited to:• Attainment• Experience of success• Progress
• How can we equip every young person (especially those with special education needs and disabilities) to be digitally literate in a world where government is now on-line, banking is now on-line, insurance is on-line, shopping is on-line..aswell as much of our social and leisure lives too?
• Are we (as teaching practitioners) exploiting the digital resources we already have to the full? Is technology simply replacing tasks, or is technology opening new frontiers in terms of accelerating learning and personalising the education experience?
