KOMET SERVICE® The new KOMET BRINKHAUS

KOMET now offers the BASS brand of HSS-E machine taps and roll form taps, and a stocking program devised for the North American market.

The KOMET GROUP has expanded its portfolio of threading tools with the addition of the BASS line of high-speed steel machine taps and roll form taps.

Designed and manufactured in Germany according to the highest quality standards, BASS threading tools provide high precision and reliable performance for all materials, and are offered in a wide range of sizes.

On September 22, KOMET of America will be celebrating the 30th anniversary of its incorporation. But the company started establishing its footprint and forging its reputation for high-quality tools and highly-en-gineered solutions in North America long before that.

The early daysIt is in 1936 that Robert Breuning, KOMET’s founder, fi rst set foot on American ground together with his brother Max and started a small tool factory. Despite the seizing of German properties by the U.S. government after

the Second World War, he returned to America with his brother-in-law Richard Bühler and nephew William H. Breuning in 1950 and started a new sales subsid-iary in Hartsdale/White Plains, New York.

A stronger foothold in the U.S. In 1973 the company established a sales offi ce in Largo, Florida. The subsidiary remained a sales offi ce until the incor-poration of KOMET of America in 1982, then a distribution company, and the start of the manufacturing joint venture with Martin Tool Works, which lasted until its acquisition by KOMET in 1986.

Fast-paced growth and expansion in the North American marketIn 1991, KOMET of America moved to its new, custom-built facility in Schaumburg, Illinois which was ex-panded to its current 80,000 sq. ft. of production fl oor and 34,000 sq. ft. of offi ce space in 1996.

The company also expanded its pres-ence in North America with the start of KOMET de Mexico in Queretaro in 1998, where it manufactured reaming tools. In 2008, it acquired a company known for the re-grinding of solid carbide tools and consolidated both factories in Queretaro.

It opened a sales offi ce in Monterrey in 2011 in order to strategically serve the industrial market of Northern Mexico.

The same year also saw the start of KOMET of Canada Tooling Solutions, ULC, a sales offi ce located in Newmarket, Ontario.

With two manufacturing facilities and four sales offi ces throughout North America, KOMET brings its services and solutions close to its customers, resulting in fast-paced growth. and representing a signifi cant share of the global presence of the KOMET group.

KOMET KUB K2®

Replaceable head drill for very small diameter bores.

In the same way that mountain climbers fi nd the smaller K2 the greater challenge, drilling holes with extremely small diameters is also considered to be a more demanding machining process. The KOMET KUB K2® replaceable head drill was developed as a clever solution for tackling extremely small diameters while offering all of the advantages of replaceable cutting inserts and, of course, peak performance.

This is no new feat for the KOMET GROUP, which has demonstrated time and time again that modularity goes hand-in-hand with cost effi ciency and fl exibility, and that for a very wide array of tooling systems ranging from continuous drilling and boring through to reaming.

However, the smaller the hole diameter, the more challenging it becomes to use replace-able cutting edges in the form of indexable inserts or changeable heads. The KOMET KUB K2® responds to this challenge with a basic holder featuring a parallel shank onto which double-edged carbide changeable heads have been adapted. This is done using a patented, self-fi xing and self-centering attachment point which makes the process of changing the cutting head extremely easy, even within the machine. The replaceable head system makes it possible to use a very wide selection of high-end geometries, while the optimized surface fi nish of the cutting channels ensures excellent chip removal. The basic bodies achieve an extremely high performance level and tool life thanks to a special surface fi nish quality.

The KUB K2® is offered in 3xD and in 5xD, as well as with changeable heads in two

coatings, 8425 and 2725, for machining steel, cast iron, aluminum and stainless materials. The diameter range is covered in increments of 0.01 millimeter.

Carbide solutions for drilling small boresKOMET KUB® Drillmax and Drillmax XLHigh-performance solid carbide drills up to 30xD.

With length/diameter ratios of 5xD, 7xD, 8xD, 20xD and 30xD, the KOMET KUB® Drill-max and Drillmax XL solid carbide drills offer a high-performance solution for small bore diameter and deep-hole drilling.

The range is available in diameters ranging

from 3 to 16 mm. Optimized fl utes enable ideal chip removal, extremely productive and high-precision machining with the possibility to achieve hole tolerances of IT9.

The XL variants also feature a special surface treatment which has been tried and tested on other KOMET® deep hole drilling tools. The 4 guide chamfers ensure great alignment and precise drilling.

High-precision tool adjustment with the help of Bluetooth technology

Safe, easy and convenient

Wireless technology has entered the machine room with the new KOMET MicroKom® BluFlex™ fi ne boring system. Bluetooth® technology enables the safe, easy and convenient reading of the tool data on an external, over-sized magnetic display.

The Bluetooth® technology in the new KOMET MicroKom® BluFlex™ fi ne bor-ing system meets the special require-ments of metal-cutting manufacturing and allows the display to be discon-nected from the fi ne-adjustment head.

The operator can mount the external display unit for setting the micro-ad-justable head anywhere in their fi eld of vision in order to suit the conditions at the machine. Bluetooth® sets up the connec-tion for data transfer from the

boring head to the display unit.

There is a specially designed adjustment key integrated in the Bluetooth® interface. In addition to being convenient, the illuminated display is larger than would be possible on the fi ne-adjustment head itself, helping to reduce errors even further. Another advantage of separating the display is weight reduction at the tool, allowing faster speeds.
