i.1·11J..1.day December 11th 1960

1l1he day started quietly wi,t_h ?- number of dithering •yetityp es' sta ndin:g at James St. with their- knees· playing -somet·ning ~imilar to Gravier st. Blues or Baon' fuge in G for pi<1no & mousetrap. Then we

were off to the· dismay of J3ri tish R:tilways. In the process of changing trains at Rook Ferry we discovered our leader relaxing with Monica(the quiet one ?); unhappily their quiet was soon shattered. En route &ur pipesmokers gave us the opportunity to practise new breathing teqhniques, ooughing, sneezing A.lt.ernri.ting with heads out of tho window.

Re~ ohing Chirk w~ were given two minutes at the local drinking trough before being driven of~ to Offa 1 s Dyke, One Herbert throwing handfulls of the winter's first snow fooled us into thinking it was a welcome fr@m Offa himself. Then to . Mr.Soott•s d~light we found~ frozen pond, here we witnessed a Sunday Speota.cular, or r Sunblest on Ice'. 'l'ho show opened with our Christmas fairy tripping ever so lightly on to the ice, his confidence incroasodvas unfortunat0ly tho strength of the ice decreased, result •••• splash •. The time to our dismay passed quickly helped alllont by the occasiona l snow-be .. 11 fight. All too soon we we.re heading back to Chirk station. Tho journey homl:i was in keeping vii th the best tradi tiona of the Ramblers, ono huge fight for air space. However, tne record still stands at 27 for a compartment, established on the Toddy walk.

Many thanks for a splendid walk Berna.td,

Dela.mere 20th. rlovamber 1960.

The journey to Frodsham via Chester proved to be the driest part of the day• Witl:l a n almost psychic insight the bus dropped us outside a small cafe in tho main street, opinion was sha rply divided on the question of the a bsent juke-box, soon ho~ever, our leader seeing that the r a in ha d decrea sed from monsoon intensity to just plain torrential decreed that c~ start be ma c1.e.

Our ri.ute for the first feYl miles v1,,.,,s strange to me so nn.turally I felt a little like Colombus, ypu may remember from schooldays dear

·reader, that when he started he didn't know wh (: rc> he wo.. s going, a.nd whei1 . he arrived he didn rt know vvhor e ho was, the only differ 0nco being that he used romeone elso 1 s money.

Th8 fo recs split at Ovo rton hill some p reffering a fronta l o.. ssaul t, in tho course of which Jim Joyce, who sho. lJL remain nameless graced the scene with a very orodit !:1 bl o imp erson'1 tion of H. Dmapty. DespitEJ the murk, the views from the summit were quite impressive.- However, Peggy realising tha t pneumonia was sufficient for one day without adding eye strain, whi ppe d us along Rnd ovor the muddy te r r a in, towards and through -the forest to oventually arrive at Norley, wharw Fr. McKinney kindly came a long to cel 1s br2.te Boncdiction, The littlo c:J.fo e. t the· Xroads did a roaring tra de soon a ftenvards to fit us for the stroll back in to Frodsham.

Our thanks to poggy for a ple[1.sa nt day out. Sho oven orgRniscd a bus b'.:1.ok to Chostor with h 2ordly ·a ny dola.y, or 1,vas it just luck'? Anywa y wo gavs h or the ocns fi t of L10 dol1- bt. 'rhank you Peg.
