RECENT HIGHLIGHTS
Autism Awareness
Evening TCDSB celebrated
students and families
living with Autism and
the staff who support
them at a special
evening that featured
Mass, presentations
and activities on April
5th.
Our Lady of Peace’s Production of the Passion During Holy Week the intermediate students of Our Lady of Peace, under the direction
of Mlle. Perri, performed a beautiful production
of the Passion for the entire school community.
Holy Thursday Prayer Service
Students from St. Joseph’s Morrow Park and
Blessed Trinity celebrated a Holy Thursday
prayer service together at SJMP on April 13th.
St. Basil Students on Vimy Ridge On April 9th, ten St. Basil-The-Great students
and 2 chaperones participated in the 100th
anniversary commemoration of the battle of
Vimy Ridge, France. To read more and see

Community Clean-up Day Students at St. Wilfrid Catholic School
demonstrated their commitment to the
community and the environment as
they partnered with other TCDSB schools
and thousands of Torontonians in the
annual Clean Toronto Together
initiative.
On April 21st, students and staff at the
school spread out over the school’s
property and surrounding
neighbourhood to do their part in
making the City look its best after the
winter months. Coach Michael “Pinball” Clemons, together with Councillor Anthony
Perruzza, TCDSB Director of Education Angela Gauthier and Superintendent Michael
Caccamo kicked off the school clean up in the gymnasium before the students
headed outdoors to begin their clean-up and Earth Day activities.
Members of the media arrived to showcase the
school’s various environmental initiatives:
birdhouse-making, a butterfly garden, and an
herb garden. Much to everyone’s delight,
Toronto Mayor John Tory arrived at the school to
take part in a ceremonial tree planting.
The community is grateful to all of the sponsors
and partners that made the school clean-up
event memorable for all who participated. Click
here to check out the many other community
clean up events that took place in schools
across the TCDSB.
Socks 4 Souls Canada Holy Rosary celebrated Lent by not giving something up, but by doing something extra
and giving to those in need in our community. Our grade 5/6 class initiated a school
wide ‘sock drive’ campaign to support ‘Socks 4 Souls Canada’, a non-profit
organization committed to providing homeless communities with new socks. In line with
the virtue of charity, our school community came together and we were able to
surpass our goal of 500 pairs as we collected 572 pairs of socks!
St. Andrew’s Fundraises For Sister Amirah Jubo and the Missionary
Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament St. Andrew School wishes to thank all the
students, parents, and members of the
school community who have contributed
to our unique fundraiser dedicated to
Sister Amirah Jubo, a former staff member
of our school, and her Missionary Sisters of
the Blessed Sacrament, to aid their work in
Northern Iraq. The community’s
overwhelming response helped raise a
grand total of $4,500! Click here to read
the full story.
Jump Rope for Heart On April 3, Holy Rosary participated in The Heart
and Stroke Foundation’s annual Jump Rope for
Heart event. The school raised over $5300,
surpassing last year’s total and our school goal of
$4000! Students received incentive prizes from The Heart and Stroke Foundation, and
the top school fundraisers will have the chance to be principal for a day! Holy Rosary is
so proud to be a part of such an inspiring event that not only raises awareness around
heart disease but promotes healthy, active living.
OLP’s Welcome Packages for New Canadians In celebration of the Year of the Parish, Our Lady of Peace’s Social Justice Club, under
the leadership of Mrs. Ludlow and Mme.
Mayer, held a school wide collection for
refugees at Our Lady of Peace Church.
The school collected 30 boxes worth of
household items to give to new refugees
coming into the community. These
generous donations were collected
from February 16 to March 31, and were
donated to Me to We for distribution.
Thank you for all the generous donations
that were received!
Bishop Allen Hosts Model
UN Bishop Allen played host to the
Model United Nations held on
Friday, April 7th. St. Mary Catholic
Academy students were among
the 8 schools who participated. It
was a wonderful learning
opportunity for students as they
had to negotiate with other
country representatives and
state their own points of view on
important issues of the day. It was a great day to expose them to model UN debating
and to meet their peers from other schools around the city. Click here for more pictures.
Indigenous Museum at St. Maria Goretti St. Maria Goretti CS hosted the Indigenous People's
Inventors and Innovators Museum on April 19th. The

children as well as promotes diversity and inclusivity. The

South and Central America.
Bike Helmet Launch at St. Francis Xavier Catholic School Over 525 students
participated in a special bike

at St. Francis Xavier Catholic
School.
School Resource Officer, P.C.
De Quintal and Toronto
Police Services, together with
the Ontario Trial Lawyers
Association, JRJ Personal Law
Injury Firm, and Access
Rehab promoted the
importance of bike safety through a school assembly that included safety lectures on
brain injuries and information on why we wear helmets. Following the assembly, students
were surprised with 525 free bike helmets. The helmets were fitted and distributed to all
525 students. The helmet donation was made possible by the Ontario Trial Lawyers
Association’s Bike Helmet Giveaway Program.
The St. Francis Xavier community is grateful to Officer De Quintal and local partners of
the Bike Helmet Giveaway Program for equipping our students with the tools they need
to be safe.
Sacred Heart Visits
Ripley's Aquarium On Thursday, April 6th
Sacred Heart students had
the opportunity to learn
about biodiversity at
Ripley’s Aquarium. Students
came face to face with the
fish, sharks, eels and jellyfish
they are learning about in
class.
Students explored different tanks, engaged in hands on activities, and were able to see
firsthand how different habitats like the kelp forests and North American coast have
different species with different survival strategies that are adapted to their unique living
environment. The trip was a great way to learn about our biodiverse underwater world.

Cardinal Carter student’s poster design wins
Ontario Speaker’s Choice Award The Ontario Legislature runs
an annual Youth Arts poster
contest. This year’s contest
theme was: “What do you
Love about Ontario?” Gr 11.
Student, Madalina Raduta,
competed in the poster
contest and her design was selected as the winning
design for the Ontario Speaker’s Choice Award.
This how Madalina describes her poster: “The theme
was ‘What do you love about Ontario?’ In my poster,
I focused on how people in Ontario are like one big
family, everyone being included and being treated
equally. I drew a small child looking up at a drawing
on the back of a loon of a group of people
embracing. In my drawing, I tried to incorporate
different symbols of Ontario, like the Common Loon, the Eastern white pine, and the
white trillium. I was also inspired by Indian Group of Seven artists Daphne Odjig and
Norval Morrisseau in the way I drew the loon and people embracing. My drawing was
picked to be one of the ten designs that they will display on banners outside Ontario's
Legislative Building from mid-January to mid-December 2017.”
Shakespearience - The Ties That
Bind St. Mother Teresa Catholic Academy
students actively participated in an
afterschool theatre program called
