PRESIDENTS REPORT

A big thank you to the Bateman family for supplying the beautiful

flowers for us to sell for Mothers Day and Under 9 player Jamin Molenkamp’s Mum,Tanya for all those delicious brownies, they may be our best method of recruiting new players ever!

Our Newsletter Editor Colin Newport is doing an awesome job, keep the contributions coming (otherwise he’ll start making stuff up!) and please

let us know if anyone is not getting a copy sent to their email, there is so much information we convey to all our players and parents via this and we don’t want anyone to miss out.

Trivia Night Tickets

You have been reminded!! (not many left)

Was very impressed with our Under 9 Gold Team last weekend when Lalor turned up short of players – they didn’t hesitate to turn jumpers

inside out and play for the opposition so they could all get a run on Sunday morning with lots of friends and family there to support. Great attitude guys!!!

A big thanks to Pauline Leslie for organizing our team and

individual photo’s this week. Had a meeting with the NFL

early this week, I am confident Whittlesea Junior

Football Club are on the right track for the Season and we are doing the right thing by all

our players and have the best attitude and approach to the game.

Major Sponsor of Whittlesea Auskick for Season 2012

This week was going to test the committed right out. With a cold drizzly morning on offer we still had a great turn out & by all reports the kids loved it! The coaches also seemed not to mind soaking up the beautiful rays…I mean rain!

Thanx again to Reece for providing our sausages this week & to all our coaches & parent helpers for digging deep for the kids & taking one for the team! Its great to see the commitment from you all, as well as the kids. The future of our little program is looking very bright.

Hope to see all your smiling faces back on Saturday, I have placed an order for Fine & 26* with the weather gods - so see you all there shight & briny once again…

Best Players: Preppies & their sublime skills Goal Kickers: Coaches & parent helpers (AKA - drowned rats)

Well done to all the boys who took part in Sunday`s game, it was great to see the sportsmanship

from our guys who volunteered to play for Lalor to make up the numbers, so as all the boys

(and that little girl from Lalor) could have a game of footy!

Lots of fun was had by all.

Special thanks goes to our umpire who did a great job for the second week running, thanks Matty!

UNDER 9 (Gold) Whittlesea Gold v Lalor

UNDER 9 (Blue) Whittlesea Blue v Mernda

Another fantastic team performance. ALL of our players have improved over the past few weeks. Many parts of our game are continuing to improve including shepherding, bursting out of the pack, accurate passing and ruck work. Congratulations to the goal kickers Zac Davies and Harry Beattie (impressive snap from the boundary), also to Oscar Johnson for his near miss.

A special mention to all of the parents for getting the boys to training and games each week and for volunteering to help out on game day, thank you!

See you Friday for photos and training. Go Eagles!!

UNDER 10 Whittlesea 6.3. 39 def. Yarrambat 4.2. 26

A very solid win by the boys this week against a spirited Yarrambat team. They challenged us right from the start & kept us scoreless in the 1st & 3rd quarters, but to our credit, we dug deep & forced our way into the lead with great determination & unequalled pressure.

Again our ability to “take em on” was great to see & our attack on the ball was superb. Free kicks were hard to come by this week but our commitment to putting our head over it & taking possession of the ball was the difference in the end.

Awesome stuff boys… keep the revenge express rollin!!!

MATCH REPORTS - ROUND 6

UNDER 11 (Blue) Whittlesea 4.3. 27 def. by Montmorency 6.3. 39

We came up against last years Division 1 Premiers whom we beat in Round 1. They came out fired up and played better footy than us. This week we were missing three key position players and it showed.

Monty always had first use of the ball and were hungry for the win. We let ourselves down by not playing by the team rules. We all need to make sure that we continue to improve at training, and follow the team plan.

There is nothing wrong with having a loss, as long as we continue to learn by them.

Page 5: In this Issue Dates to Note - Whittlesea Football Club · 2012. 5. 24. · Issue 7 24 May 2012 Dates to Note • Saturday - 26 May IGA BBQ (U/9 teams on duty) • • Saturday - 2

Well we travelled down to Epping and they were a big team. They tried to throw their weight around on our team but our boys were never intimidated by them and after losing the lead early in the last quarter we kicked 3 goals in 5 minutes to win.

This was a good win due to the physical pressure Epping tried to use against us. We played football and won which was great.

Another test this week against Diamond Creek but if our boys have the same team attitude we will do well.

Best Players: Bailey Stewart, Deakin Tenant, Ayden Amos, Kyle Smith, Ryan Edwards, Tristen Rodrigues

Goal Kickers: Billy Goodwin (3), Daniel Patton, Stevie Alabakis, Noel Murray

MATCH REPORTS - ROUND 6

UNDER 13 Whittlesea 6.5. 41 def. Research 4.5. 29

The boys deserved this win they carried out instructions to a tee especially on the Research big bodies which had caused us trouble against Greensborough. If we had kicked straight we may have sealed the game at 3 quarter time.

Liam F played his best game of the season; Bailey C was the standout with some great tackling and marking. Nathan was let run loose on the wing and was instrumental in the drive from the back line.

Henry and Daniel played well up front and were key targets up forward.

Joel had a ‘Buddy’ day kicking 1-3 but kept working hard.

All in all it was a great team effort. Tough one this week against Mill Park must bring our best pressure game if we are to upset them.

Best Players: Bailey Caldow, Dion Musgrave, Liam Flatley, Nathan Murray, Daniel Smith, Blake Watson

Goal Kickers: Bailey Caldow, Joel Naylor, Blake Watson, Daniel Smith, Liam Briant, Brandyn Burgess

Unfortunately this match had to be forfeited due to insufficient player numbers.

Fortunately though some of the boys got to help out the Under 11 Blue team

which was much appreciated by them.

MATCH REPORTS - ROUND 6

A better 4 quarter performance with the boys enjoying the wide open spaces of our home ground.

The boys were very unselfish all day with boy’s handballing off 15 metres from goals to allow others to kick one. The negatives were our overuse off the ball up the field as well as not kicking to the right areas.

Best Players: Every one contributed to the win and it would be too hard to name the best players.

Goal Kickers: C. Prestopino 5, J. Brennan 3, J. Taylor 2, C. Leslie 2, C. Fitzgerald 2, M. Coen , J. Bateman , C. Bland , J. Tyrrell , B. Avola , M. Bongailas

The win was solid, Muzza always talks about the 3rd quarter as being the premiership one well

this week was the most disciplined that we have seen all year keeping the forward line open.

The centre work was well organised and proves that hard work wins games .Our back line was

solid with some different players that stood up to show that we are going to be a very versatile

side.

Goal Kickers: Tyrone 6, Joseph 4, Nathan Taylor 3, Jack Jerabek 2, Ryan White 1

The boys started really well. We played some good footy in patches, even though we still made some fundamental mistakes.

Overall a good effort to win in a closely fought encounter. Great win with good sportsmanship.
