Location/Setting

This is one place where we recorded our opening sequence. We chose this area because there are lots of obstacles that can be jumped over perfect for action films. Also this is a very quiet area so we will not get people walking into our shots and we will not be causing any disturbances but filming people without their permission.

This is another spot. Like some action films there aren’t many people around as it is a undercover story. Some action films such as James Bond have a mix of the different settings where the action takes place, some of which are full of people and some that are very much one on one chase scenes.

The Film Title

This is the title of our film, we chose this because it means A dishonest or unprincipled man. This links with our film because it gives away the reason in which the man may be being chased but doesn’t give too much away. The title is short and catchy like many of the action films out today such as ‘lone Survivor’ ‘Transformers’, these don’t give too much away about what the film could be about yet give them interest and mystery. This could be a very stereotypical title for an action film as its meaning is ‘a dishonest or unprincipled Man’ – this stereotypically shows that our action film is mainly based on men just like many of the other action films that are big hits such as ‘James Bond’.We chose this font style because its very edgy and almost looks burnt out I think it suits the action film genre.

Special Effects

We used special effects for the gun shot sound and the blood splats when the security guard is shot. These work well together as it links in with the sound of the gun shots. In action films depending on the age rating there is usually blood after a shooting. For this mild violence our film would be appropriate for ages 15+ anything more horrific than this would be an 18 as there would be too much violence.

Costumes/ Props

In our film, we used computer technology this is very modern technology which is often used in the Secret agent films. This is often used in films with special effects such as James Bond, it is often used for things such as tracking a bad guy, this is exactly what we have tried to do with our film as we use it to link with the cctv to tract our suspect.

One of the main props featured throughout the whole of the opening sequence is the Gun. This is a very important part of our film as it shows who has the authority in our film. The gun Is used as a threat to the person we are trying to capture. Like in any other action movies such as the dark knight, guns are used to threaten people like in the bank robbery scene of the dark knight. It also creates a lot of tension for the audience and builds it up as there is so much suspense to if the gun will be used to kill or not.

This is from the Dark Knight, the gun is pointed to keep the victims held hostage against their will. This creates tension and suspense just like our film does. It also gives a sense of mystery as to weather he will shoot or not, this makes the audience want to continue watching to find out what will happen next.

The characters are introduced very quick and suddenly. There is a voice over at the very beginning of the clip and it goes to the control room where the cctv footage is being watched and he is directing someone using a map. This introduces the character as the person in charge of the whole operation and the eyes and ears of it to make sure nothing goes wrong.

The next character to be introduced is the main character Agent Chase, we can tell that he is the main character as he has a very important role of catching the bad guy. We know that he is the main character as like many of the other action film he features in the majority of the shots.

We are them introduced to the Bad guy, we instantly know that he is the bad guy as he is who Agent Chase has been searching for. When found the chase scene begins so we know that he is wanted and this builds up tension as we don’t know at this point if he Is wanted dead or alive.

Camerawork and Editing

Our camerawork and editing is very much like the real action movies. Very fast paced editing and different camera angles which are constantly changing. The reasons for this are to show the audience how fast the pace is of the chase scene and also to build up tension as it comes to realisation how fast the chase scene is. There is a variety of close ups, medium close ups and establishing shots which all set the scene and created the tension when placed together well. The editing is straight cuts as it gives the fast pace required for the scene.

Story line

Our story line is about a missing document that someone has which is needed, and then the chase for the missing document happens in the opening chase scene. This isn't like most action films as many of them are to do with high speed car chases and lots of violence and Guns. Our action film is similar to many action films though as it has fast on feet pursuits and mild violence which most if not all have included in them. The opening of the film sets the story line up straight away as it informs the audience that someone is looking for something and they have looked into it with great detail as they have the CCTV cameras rigged up to the computer and they have eyes and ears on the situation.

The conventions of an opening sequence is a method of introducing the audience to the characters, establishes the kind of scene and tone the film wants to propose and engages the audience from the early stage. It provides a simple, basic insight of what’s inevitable when watching the film or what you must anticipate as the viewer. Our film engages the audience straight away as it instantly goes into a chase scene packed full of action and suspense. The audience get a brief idea of what is going on but they don’t get the full story, this way the audience will want to continue to watch this to find out what will happen next and the full extent of why the chase is happening in the first place.

Other opening sequences have influenced our work especially James Bond Quantum of solace opening sequence. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfYC_CBNtiM This has influenced our work a lot as the chase scene starts straight away and it captures the audience from the moment the film starts and this is what we wanted to achieve with ours. Even though the first chase scene in James Bond is a car chase scene and ours Is a running chase scene it still heavily influenced our work with the amount of suspense it gives to the audience the moment it starts.
