− Diagnostics is an essential part of the ECU software (>40%) to ensure e.g.
− Serviceability (easier root cause analysis and mal function detection)
− Safety (guarantee system safety in case of mal functions)
− Conformance to legislation on emission related systems (OBD)
− Calibration and validation of ECU diagnostic functions is an important use
case for many INCA users, e.g. for
− Calibration of diagnostic thresholds, error path and freeze frame content
− Evaluation of onboard diagnostic functions / monitors
− OBD validation (correctness of MIL status, DTCs, PID values, IUMPR, etc.)
− Calibration and validation of ECU diagnostics is supported with ODX-LINK,
the integrated diagnostic solution for INCA

for INCA supporting Measurement, Calibration and
Diagnostics in one tool and with the same HW
− Main Features
− Integration of Diagnostic Measurement Signals in INCA
• Selection in Variable Selection Dialog
• Joined visualization together with measurement and calibration
data in the same INCA experiment
• Joined recording and analysis of measurement and diagnostic
data in the same MDF file
• Usable for trigger conditions and calculated signals
• Available at MCD-3MC , ASAP3 and COM interfaces of INCA
− Out of the box OBD-on-CAN support with OBD Scan tool UI
− Snap shot documentation of diagnostic data (XML, Html, txt)
− Multiple Diagnostic windows for many use cases

Different tools => no synchronization => no joined data visualization => tool switching required
Separate HW and cables => higher costs => possible ECU access conflicts
Separate logfiles and analysis tools => no joined data analysis => higher analysis effort

− Diagnostic Signals are provided like normal measurement signals
in INCA
− Diagnostic Signals selectable within Variable Selection Dialog
− Joint data visualization of MC and D measurement data in the same INCA
experiment windows (Oscilloscope, tables, measurement windows)
− Definition of Calculated Signals based on Diagnostic Signals
− Recording of Diagnostic Signals to INCA MDF files
− Definition of combined MC & D trigger conditions

The integration of Diagnostic Signals is based on:
1. ODX files
− Describes the diagnostic interface of an ECU or vehicle
• Diagnostic services and service parameters
• Decoding of ECU responses to physical values
2. Diagnostic Signal List
− Defines the Diagnostic Signals and how to retrieve them via ODX
Diagnostic Signals for OBD (e.g. PIDs, DTCs)
− OBD protocol and diagnostic data is standardized (SAE J1979)
− ODX files and Diagnostic Signal List provided by ODX-LINK
=> Start right away with OBD measurement in INCA. No additional files needed !
Customer specific Diagnostic Signals (UDS, KWP2000)
− Use ECU specific ODX data (similar to ECU specific A2L data)
− Create a Diagnostic Signal List (can be done with ODX-LINK in the Experiment)
