In 1961 Dr Leonard Hayflick discovered that there is a limit to the number of times a cell can divide, division has been established as between 40 and 60 times. The Hayflick Limit can not be changed by adding nutrients, or the absence of toxins or the absence of stress.

In 1998 The use of Telomerase Activators within the cells was found to be the only way that cells were able to successfully divide past the Hayflick Limit.
