Project Title: Bollywood Dance Issue

Project Summary: It is an interactive magazine on Bollywood talent in the Surrey area, i shall be covering dancers from a few di�erent dance schools and dance groups who are interested in getting there talent to a bigger audience.

Who is it for ?:Anyone who is interested in bollywood dancing, whether it be learning, collaborating and competing in local competitions.

Inspiration:Empire Magazine, iGizmo, Wired Magazine on the Apple Ipad

Methods:Collaborating with a student from New Media, every other weekend i shall �lm my sister doing bollywood dancing, and shall edit it so that it becomes short video clips on how to do bollywood dancing. I shall also get other people of di�erent ages to come and dance on a weekend to add some variety. Photoshoots of the dancers to be taken, location of �lming and photography shall be in a hall at Solent Court, Norbury.

How are u making it ?Using Adobe Indesign CS5, plus additional plugins from www.adobe.com. The Interactive Publication shall be viewed on the Ipad. Editing photographs Adobe Photoshop CS5 and video footage Final Cut Pro.

Rationale:This project is important to me as it relates to the area of industry i want to go into after university, which is Interactive Design. As my original idea was to create an Ipad Application on Bollywood Dancing was too much for one student to do in the time given, i had to change and adapt my idea into a di�erent area of interactive design that i felt would still beni�t me in terms of getting into my chosen industry. As the Apple Ipad had sold 15 million in 9 months, we clearly see that the future of interactive design is with these tablet devices.

Skills Evidence:Over the next couple of weeks i shall be continuously planning, photographic and �lming shoots. Also creating concept art for the angles and creative shots. Also to plan out the di�erent parts of the dance. I shall be using alot of the equipment from the media store, last week Saturday i took out two High De�nition Video Cameras, one Canon 5d Mark 2, Filming lights, Tripods, Re�ectors and The Rig ( Circular device in which you can attach a HD Video Camera to get some new shots from di�erent perspectives. I shall also be learning from sta� from the new media department and online tutorials how to use Final Cut Pro to edit and enhance my footage and also tutorials on Indesign CS5 to get the most of the software.

Risks and Challenges:Changing my idea this late into the year is quite risky but necessary as i would’nt have been able to create an Apple Ipad Application in the time given. This interactive magazine presents a new challenge as no one in the university has created one before, It will test me in software ive barely touched in the past and it will also test my photographic/ �lming skills as all the other interactive publications always use the sharpest images and video in their work.

Introduction

InspirationEmpire Magazine, iGizmo, Wired Magazine on the Apple Ipad, these are some of the greatest interactive magazines on the Apple iPad. Each of the interactive magazines allow the user to view incredible video footage, change the orientation and scroll through high definition images and text just with some simple hand gestures.

PhotographyThe filming and photography was done in a private studio in Solent Court, a block of flats in Norbury. This was quite a challenging task for one person to do, so i took the advice from my tutors and collaborated with a friend from Graphic Design : New Media, Wynford Knuckles.

We took out a huge amaount of equipment as the weather is quite unpredictable and light changes during the day.

Idea Development

After collecting images and video for the interactive magazine, i started to create a dummy version of how the magazine would look. I kept reffering back to the other Apple iPad Magazines for guidance and inspiration as they have the don’t always have the same look to them. By next week thursday i will have a full dummy work up of the interactive magazine on my Apple iPad.

An amazing feature in Adobe Indesign CS5 is the ability to have multiple pages going down so that you can have more information on less pages. The screenshot above is of 2 of the 3 pages going down on a single page. This provides great layout options for me when i create the pages of videos on learning how to do bollywood dancing.

Another amazing feature Adobe Indesign CS5 gives you is the ability to add video clips into your magazine document, creating a whole new and exciting experience on these tablet devices. I plan to use this feature to upload kayla’s dance tutorials throughout 2 - 3 pages of 2 - 3 minute videos.

START ʻEM OFF YOUNG

For the Final Major Project i plan to create an interactive magazine on the theme bollywood dancing in surrey.The interactive magazine will feature bollywood talent in surrey from different dance schools and styles.

I plan to collaborate with Wynford Knuckles over the next 2 months to gather enough photography and filming for the interactive magazine issue.

As i wont be able to publish the interactive magazine, i plan to use a free application on the ipad ‘Adobe Preview’ to show my work to the tutors.

For my final hand in will be the entire Adobe indesign file + a video demonstration of my magazine in HD.

I have taken myself way out of my comfort zone with this project, taking on software ive never used before, like Final Cut Pro, �lming with new and interesting equipment like HD video cameras, lighting equipment, re�ectors and the Rig.

After �lming and photographing for a couple of weeks i now have an understanding on how to utilize my time each day, e.g. when �lming plan a week in advance to make sure we get the equipment we need, the dancers and extra camera men are free to help out. I now know my aims for the �nal major project and will continue week by week showing examples at group meetings and 1-2-1 tutorials the updated version of the magazine and will de�nately use any feedback i can get from these meetings.

Evaluation
