Taste of Indian Rocks Beach Event Showcases Local Restaurants

The 6th Annual Taste of IRB event scheduled for this weekend will provide locals as well as guests of our Indian Rocks Beach rentals with a chance for sampling some great eats from local restaurants.Whether you’ll be staying at one of our beach cottages or just happen to be passing through, you’re invited to stop by the Chic-A-Si Park from 4 pm to 10 pm on November 3 to try out some menu items from over 20 restaurants located in our area.The Taste of IRB event is designed to be very similar to the much larger Taste of Pinellas with a focus on what makes dining at Indian Rocks Beach so special. With menu samples from some of the best restaurants around, it’s a terrific way to get a taste of what’s available for an affordable price.

So, who all is participating in the event? As you can see below, Taste of IRB just about has it all: Coasters Bar & Grille, Donnie's Coastal Café, Delectable Edibles,Tapas Garden & Wine Bar, Marlin Darlin,On the Rocks,Crabby Bill’s,Pajano’s Pizza,The Pub,Red Lion Pub,Slyce Pizza Bar, Havana Harrys,Kooky Coconut,IRB Sushi,Keegan’s Seafood Grille,Cafe de Paris,Le Bouchon Bistro,Stefano’s Italian,Island Fish,The Pie Facory,Slyce Pizza BarThere will also be live music to enjoy throughout the afternoon, as well as beer from Crabby Bill’s and wine at the Slyce Pizza Bar. As a special treat, men and women from the Pinellas Suncoast Fire & Rescue will be serving up their world-class firehouse chili as a charity fundraiser.Now, admission to Taste of IRB is completely free, but you will want to bring along a little cash for the menu items themselves. Check Out the Studio @ 620 for International Film, Local Art and Community

If you are staying at our Indian Rocks Beach rentals this season and are interested in catching a little cultural while in town, we suggest making your way over to Studio 620 located at 620 1st Avenue South in St Petersburg, Florida.Created by local art directors Bob Devin Jones and David Ellis as well as a wide variety of local artists, vissioneers and volunteers, the Studio @ 620 is dedicated to bringing the arts and diversity to individuals and communities in the area. They offer several artistic programs and educational events that are open to the public. Just take a look at a few of the more interesting events that they’ve got scheduled for the early summer of 2012.

Revenge of the Electric Car – June 21, 2012Presented by the Suncoast Sierra Club, Revenge of the Electric Car is a new documentary that  follows up on the film Who Killed the Electric Car, discussing the how's and whys of the resurgence in popularity of this type of automobile. There’s an informal social scheduled at the studio at 6:30 if you’re interested in a little light mingling, and the movie itself gets started at 7:00 pm. The Sierra Club will be providing tips and other information on how viewers can get involved with cutting down on their energy consumption before and after the show, if that happens to be your cup of tea.In the Moment… DANCE!!! – June 24, 2012And next, for something completely different, T. Heffner offers up a dance and choreography presentation of his own design featuring movements set to everything from pop and house to soul and opera. The performance is dedicated to T’s grandmother. Tickets are available for $20 General Admission/ $15 Seniors & Students. 5 Things to Do in Indian Rocks Beach

Indian Rocks Beach is conveniently located on the West Coast of Florida, 30 minutes from the Tampa International Airport, on a barrier island. Indian Rocks Beach is nestled up against the water providing vacationers with peace, quiet, and serene beach sunsets.One of the best attractions is the beach itself. What beach vacation would be complete without some time in the sun? There are several areas along the Indian Rocks Beach line where families can enjoy the ocean spray. One place vacationers can park their cars is at the Indian Rocks Beach Access, located at 1700 Gulf Blvd. This particular spot provides beach-goers with luxuries such as a restroom and outdoor showers.For some truly superb lobster families should visit Crabby Bills. Crabby Bills has been providing residents and tourists alike some of the best seafood for the last 27 years. They also provide live entertainment and outstanding happy hour specials.Another great restaurant to try while at Indian Rocks Beach is Guppy’s on the Beach Grill and bar. This is a slightly more upscale establishment that is still family friendly. Guppy’s on the Beach is located across the street from the actual beach but does have outdoor seating with magnificent views of the ocean.The Museum of the Indian Rocks Area Historical Society is located at 203 4th Avenue. The Museum is housed in the historic Carl and Caroline Moseley 1930s beach cottage. Their exhibits circle around the Indian Rocks heritage. They feature exhibits that are centered on the storied and intriguing heritage of the town.The Suncoast Seabird Sanctuary is the largest wild bird sanctuary in the United States. It offers visitors the chance to observe how the sanctuary provides care for injured wild birds. They are open from 9 a.m. until sunset year round with free admission.The Beach Art Center showcases local art. They have three gallery shows. One is in October, another is in February, and one is in April. They also provide art classes such as water coloring, basic drawing, and pottery making.For a truly relaxing and peaceful time Indian Rocks Beach is the place to visit.

How to Enjoy a Day at Indian Rocks Beach

When visiting Indian Rocks Florida it’s a good idea to have a plan, with so much to see and do you’ll be hard pressed to see everything without one. Aside from the pristine sandy beaches there are numerous attractions that will delight the family.Clearwater Marine Aquarium is a non-profit facility that is dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation and release of injured marine animals. You can learn how everyone can help to protect dolphins, otters, and sea turtles. It is one of the only eight aquariums in the U.S. that is authorized for the rescue and rehabilitation of marine mammals.A great place for the whole family, you can learn about bottlenose dolphins, loggerhead sea turtles, river otters and coral reefs through the presentations that staff holds. They offer opportunities for everyone to be “hands on” with daily feedings.Pier 60 is another great destination to visit while in Indian Rocks. It features a covered playground under two large blue pavilions. There is play equipment suitable from ages pre-school to 12 including slides, monkey bars, swings, and one of the world’s largest sand boxes. The playground is open from sunrise to sunset every day, and each evening two hours before the sun sinks into the ocean there is a street festival hosted by local artisans and performers.The fascinating history of Indian Rocks is on display in the Indian Rocks Area Historical Society. Hosted in the original and historic Carl and Caroline Moseley beach cottage that dates back to the 1930’s there are pictures, exhibits and artifacts on display. The history of the area can be traced from its founding to the present day through this informative exhibit. There is an Indian Room that contains weapons, clothing, doll collection and hand crafted items to shed light on the lives of the earliest inhabitants of the region.A wooden bridge was built to connect the barrier island to the mainland and there are many photos of the bridge tender sitting in his chair, his lantern swaying beside him on display. These and other fascinating items await those who make the trip to the museum.
