What is WIPS? An indoor planning tool:

Multi-Technology (Cellular, Wi-Fi, WiMAX, Femtocell etc)

Available in 2 versions: 1. Professional (Pro) Full Functionality (Carrier Class product

for Mobile / Fixed Operators, ISPs , H/W vendors and the Building Industry)

2. Lite (Light) – Wi-Fi only, limited functionality (Home and small office users, also designed to complement Wi-Fi access manufacturers as a Value Added Product or Service to increase “box” sales.

The Professional “Module” can be used as a “stand alone” application or can be integrated into ALL Standard Radio Network Planning Tools which currently do not support any indoor planning (E.g. Aircom “Assett”, Mentum “Planet, Forsk “Attol”, ATDI “ICS Telecom, etc)

What is WIPS? Based on BIM – Supports REVIT model, the Autodesk

format used by architects and civil engineers. Provides the

possibility for close co-operation with construction

companies (a new market and a unique feature)

Based on Windows Forms .NET application, C#

AutoDesk DXF file support Create object with import from DXF ASCII file.

Define which DXF entities are imported and the way in which they are treated

Layers from DXF file are recognized during DXF file import process.

Extent calculations for each individual layer with the possibility to use layer transformations

Separate layers can be selected for content import and

presentations (layer selection control).

WIPS An easy to use tool:

Allows users to estimate propagation conditions and to choose best position for the access point for data access and VoWLAN.

Allows users to evaluate (predict) signal strength (RSS) in space where they spend a lot of time (evaluate EMC/health conditions)

Allows users to choose areas with best signal level as a working area.

Existing projects serving as a help in creating new projects. Integrated help files and recorded demo movies (in

development) as training & support to customers. Using the signal strength analysis tool, users can see the

signal levels with different color maps representing different modulations.

Users can estimate where is the maximum throughput (area with the best modulation).

WIPS

Users can see what the estimated signal strength (with

selected access point transmit power) and can evaluate if

areas are suitable considering health regulations and EMC

regulations

Allows users to evaluate interference in the case of using

multiple access points (frequency planning) and to achieve

highest throughput.

Allows users to see “best server” analysis and to estimate

which access points are the best to connect to – helps to select

optimal number of access points.

Model Viewer

The Model Viewer is

used to display the 3D

model of the project and

display 3D aligned

analysis results.

Results can be provided

in full material or in

wireframe view (useful

to see access points

positions inside

buildings).

Architectural Elements

The check boxes next to each node in

the tree are used to control the visibility

of the elements related to that node

Invisible elements do not participate in

calculations of RSS! Useful for

modifying the building structure.

Radio Elements View

Using the Radio Elements view, the user can

see the breakdown of radio elements (Access

Points/Antennas) by storey and family, in the

same manner as in the architectural Elements

View.

Access Point Editor is used to modify the

properties of selected access points by

changing their technological parameters, such

as Family, Channel, Power or location

properties (X,Y,Z), storey-relative elevation,

or azimuth and tilt of the access point's

antenna.

Material Views/Edit

Used to review and edit the information

about different elements and their

propagation influence (in terms of the signal

attenuation they bring into the calculation).

In the Families tab, the users can edit the

influence (attenuation) of each element

belonging to a specific family.

Creating Antenna Family

The user needs to provide a name for the antenna family and the values for the horizontal/vertical gain pattern.

These values can be initialized to a single value using an "omni gain" and an angle raster.

By clicking Initialize Values button, the gain pattern will be initialized by the angle values defined and by the multiples of the angle raster and a single gain value.

Supply the angle/gain values for the antenna family by adding the values in the table in the left hand side of the dialog.

User can edit the values directly and save the antenna family with the updated gain patterns.

Support for antenna pattern formats like in Light version.

Results Presentation – RSS & CINR

Inspection of the estimated RSS/CINR value by pointing the

cursor to a specific point and observing the provided tooltip

with information about the calculated RSS/CINR and the

analytical higher-probability range where the actual value might

lie.
