Structure of Time Analyses

DELMIA Industrial Engineer gives theuser complete freedom in creatingand structuring time analyses. Timeanalyses can be compressed over anynumber of data levels; i.e., the systemallows any time structure, from basicprocedures (standard and repeatactivities) through partial operationsand operations to sub-assemblies,assemblies and products.

Interfaces to Other TimeMeasurement Systems

Data import from ORTIM (time record-ing and planned time) and MTM(ANA/ZEBA-DATA) is available. Dataimport from company-specific systemscan be developed by the user orDELMIA.

Data Cards

DELMIA Industrial Engineer offersdata cards tailored to the differentstandard time methods and their timeelement code. Each data card displaysthe time values in logically arrangedlists for maximum analysis efficiency.DELMIA Industrial Engineer enablesthe user tocreatecustomdata cardsfor quickand easyintegra-tion ofcompany-specificdata.

The “Summary” Function

DELMIA Industrial Engineer offers“summary” as a specific data typewithin a standard time method. Thisdata type is used to combine a num-ber of related small elements thatmust be performed together as a“block.” An example is an inspectionprocess that includes selecting thepart, inspecting it, documenting theinspection results and either returningthe part or placing the part in a rejectbin. This “summary“ data type canbe used to generate the work instruc-tions for the worker – directly at theworkstation.

The easily understood structure of thetime elements in DELMIA IndustrialEngineer allows the user to analyzemanual and partially automated activi-ties very quickly and efficiently. Themaster data is visible to the user atany time during the analysis process. The fundamental data values andresults of the analysis are shown inthis section of the screen.

Operations are described and definedby up to 10 data items that can beswitched on or off through configura-tion. The key entities for a time analy-sis are:

Header Data

This screen is used to describe activi-ties according to MTM rules. Moreover, organizational data isentered here and general status infor-mation about the analysis is displayed.

Lines

Lines constitute the key elementsdefining the operations within ananalysis. Time codes are entered andquantity/frequency evaluations aremade here. During the calculation of atime analysis, the times are checkedagainst the MTM rules, and errors aredisplayed immediately.

Time Structuring

The time structuring function evalu-ates the basic results of the analysis(basic times) using defined allowancesand calculates the “time per unit.”Furthermore, capacity and expectedoutput per time are calculated anddisplayed here. DELMIA IndustrialEngineer manages any number ofallowances, which are combined inallowance sets. The names, values andcomputing rules of allowances areuser-definable.

Graphical data cards facilitate quickand efficient creation of work se-quence descriptions for manual andpartially automated workstations. The desired activity is selected byclicking on it within the data card.DELMIA Industrial Engineer thenprompts for the associated time ele-ment parameters, such as length ofmovement. From the data card ele-ment chosen, a complete line withcode, standard description, quantity, frequency and time is generated. Thedata is entered at the current cursorposition. In the case of analysis formswith left and right hand activities, thedata generated can be moved to theappropriate code column. User-defined time elements can be insertedin the sequence of operationsdescribed, wherever needed. All data cards available in the timemeasurement method are displayedusing the handy index tab format.

A convenient data card generator isavailable to create company-specificdata cards.

Data cards are defined and the layoutis created using this creation and edit-ing environment in which the datacards can be tested and immediatelyviewed. The user can easily master thedescription language to create datacards. The data card generator fullysupports the multilingual featuresavailable in DELMIA IndustrialEngineer.

All process-oriented sequences can becomputed with the formula systemavailable in DELMIA IndustrialEngineer. Formulas are created quick-ly and effortlessly using a simple butcomprehensive definition language. Once a formula has been defined as alibrary element, it is available for useby any user whenever needed.

Even complex formula constructs canbe created and structured in DELMIAIndustrial Engineer.

This is implemented by means ofstructuring elements such as:• Formula within a formula• Subroutines• “If … then … else …” control struc-

tures• “From … to … step …” loops

DELMIA Industrial Engineer offers thefollowing procedures and functions:

Nesting and control structures enablethe user to create highly dynamic for-mulas. It is possible to calculate andplan a great number of variants usingonly a few formulas. This simplifiesdata maintenance and increases thequality of the time data. Moreover, smart structuring of formulas helps togreatly reduce the data entry effort;i.e. the number of variables entered.By simply copying a formula into theanalytical line, either by drag and dropor manual insertion, all necessary for-mula parameters are immediatelyqueried and the result is automaticallyentered in the respective line.DELMIA Industrial Engineer supportsmapping and calculation of varioustime types (process times, manualactivities, setting times) defined byformulas. Time elements can also bedirectly inserted in formulas.

When existing 3D workstation layoutsdeveloped in Layout Planning areused - rather than working exclusivelywith data cards - DELMIA IndustrialEngineer can perform quick and reli-able analyses. As virtual workstations, these 3D workstation graphics com-pletely represent the subsequent realworkstation situation in production -including all essential features. Thisprovides a clearly defined and unam-biguous documentation of worksta-tion conditions underlying the timeanalysis. The estimation of distancesbased on rough guesses regarding thearrangement of workstation elements,is completely eliminated.

The process of analysis based on 3Dworkstation layouts is simple:• Select the time element code from

the data card• Define the starting and ending

points of the action by mouseclicks on the 3D representation

• Confirm the sequence

Print Variants

DELMIA Industrial Engineer allows theuser to control the output of results ina flexible and individual manner.Variants to printed forms can be easilycreated. These variants are deter-mined for a particular standard timemethod and provide highlydifferentiated and flexible arrange-ment of forms.

The following printed forms aredefined in the standard configura-tion of DELMIA IndustrialEngineer:• Header data of time analysis with

operating sequence descriptions• Analytical lines for each standard

time method configured• Time structure with a detailed list-

ing of all times and allowances• P & T (production and test instruc-

tion)• Optional analytical data, such as

parts, resources, search keys, docu-ments

Form Generation

Custom form design is available inDELMIA Industrial Engineer. It enablesthe user to quickly adapt the outputof results to company-specific require-ments, or to customize existing formsas needed.

Assistants

For rarely used functions, the user canresort to assistants that guide him/herthrough the function step-by-step,thereby ensuring that the desiredfunction is carried out in the correctmanner. All actions are logged. Thelog may be viewed at any time for ver-ification.

Copy/Move

Experienced users can use drag anddrop to quickly and efficiently copyand move elements in the expertmode. This is also logged and can beverified later on.

Replace

Entire data areas can be replaced inorder to update time analyses withnew data. This may become necessarywhen the company-specific environ-ment changes; for example, due tochanges in the number of employees,in allowances and/or the organization-al structure (entire production areasare moved).

Replacement sequences can be exe-cuted and checked step-by-step byselection of individual data contents.Data integrity and the quality of theresults are thus guaranteed.

Import/Export

DELMIA Industrial Engineer allowsdata to be transferred at any timefrom one working environment toanother. For example, this can beused to export data from a centralinstallation to a notebook. The resultscan then be retransferred to the cen-tral environment.

This import/export function is alsoused for data archiving.

Updating Time

DELMIA Industrial Engineer is a pow-erful tool that allows the user toupdate specific time data at any time.In general, DELMIA IndustrialEngineer updates time analyses imme-diately. Subsequent changes to time-relevant data, such as allowances andtime codes, may make it necessary torecalculate the time data.

All changes are documented in a logand are therefore completely trace-able.

DELMIA Industrial Engineer Options, Evaluations and System Requirements

Added Value

The added value in work processes isan important supplementary criterionfor time-based analyses. In DELMIA Industrial Engineer, thevalue-added categories are config-ured by the user according to compa-ny-specific requirements. Industrial Engineer supports a hierar-chical structure of value-added cate-gories that includes main groups(adding value, not adding value, auxil-iary process, logistics, etc.) and sub-groups. Examples of subgroups forthe main group category “not addingvalue” are reading, walking distances, tool change, inspect. Multiple assign-ments based on percentages are alsopossible for evaluation of an activityaccording to value-added criteria;e.g., 50% adding value and 50 % notadding value.
