Page 2: Industrial Internet - Business Revolution programme presentation

What does the Industrial Internet mean?

The Industrial Internet combines:

•smart & embedded devices & systems•data collection and analysis•business processes and people at work

This enables completely new business modelsand competitive services to fulfill customer needs.

The drivers behind the Industrial Internet are: increased computing power – especially in embedded devices, increased network speed, availability of small, durable and accurate sensors and considerably lower cost of all these factors. Wider user acceptance, know-how and need to streamline business processes boost the take-up of the Industrial Internet.

Case Eniram: optimised ship operation with data

analysis

Finland still slow in industrial ICT utilisation – speed from EU Horizon 2020, ECSEL JU, ITEA3 and US &

Idea: Mevea, born 2005 in the department of Mechanical Engineering in the Lappeenranta University of Technology, plans and designs simulation technology for industry. Mevea’s customers design e.g. cranes, forest machines, mining equipment and earthmovers – using simulation in the design work.

Impact: Mevea’s customers include Konecranes, Cargotec, Normet and Wärtsilä. The growth in the future will come from the international markets, e.g. from the German-speaking Europe.

Big machines – simulated

Tekes has funded Mevea’s research and product development. Currently Mevea develops foundation for new simulator applications in Tekes’ Industrial Internet programme.
