The exploration of a targeted 10,700,000and 29,250,000 tons of 1.4 and 2.4 percent copper in the Semil Ophiolite Belt innorthernOmanandthedevelopmentofgoldandcopperdepositsfromacentraloperatingplant.

The construction of a commercial openpit mine in Oman’s Washihi locality, 160kilometers southeast of Muscat. It involvesthe commercialization/processing of copperdeposits with associated gold ore, whichcover a total area of about 105 squarekilometers.Itisexpectedtoproduce77,000tonsofcopperand18,000tonsofgoldyearlyupon operation. Expected revenues amounttoUS$434millionoveraperiodof10years.

ProjectCost:US$ 50 million

The usage by mining companies of DuqmPort’s 300-meter dedicated break bulkterminal to export their minerals, includinglimestone to several countries.The terminalhas a capacity of up to 5 million tons perannum.Thefirst shipment of dolomite fromthe port’s commercial quay was done inFebruary2016.

TheSultanateofOmanisenrichedwithvarietiesofmineralresourcesmetallicmineralssuchascopper,gold,zinc,chromites,cobaltandironoresandnon-metallicmineralsincludes,dolomite,limestone,gypsum,calys,silica,ornamentalstonesandbuildingmaterials.Severalminingcompanieshavegrownbasedonthesemineralcommodities,whichparticipateasapartofthenationaldevelopmentsectorand

contributetothenation’sGDPaswellasprovidingjobsforOmanis.

CopperhasbeenminedinOmanforthousandsofyears.RecentlyOmanMiningCompanyandMawaridResourcesminingabout35milliontonsofcopperoresfromSoharandShinasareas.Inadditionfournewcompaniesgrantedexplorationlicensesfordevelopingcopper

miningprojectsinAl-Batinahcoast.Therearemorethan15companiesminingmarblestonefromdifferentquarriesinthenorthernmountainsofOman.Gypsum,limestoneandclayarealso

minedfromOmanforexportandaslocalsupplyrawmaterialsfordifferentindustries.Othermineralresources,whicharerecentlyevaluatedsuchas,copperores,claysandsilicasandarealsoshowingeconomicalfeasibilityandcanbeexploitableforseveralyears.

FournewcompanieswererecentlygrantedexplorationlicensesfordevelopingcopperminingprojectsontheAlBatinahprojects.

Seabed Mining Operation Yanqul Copper Project

AjointventurewithaCanadianminingfirmtowettestgiganticroboticmachineryatOman’sPortofDuqm,whichwillbedeployedontheseafloortominehigh-valuemineralssuchasgold,copper,zincandsilverinthesouthwestPacific.ThisprojectputsOmanaskeybasefortheworld’sfirstseafloorminingproject.

The exploration and development of fiveseparatecopperdeposits intheYanqulareainthenorthernpartofOman.Theprojectisexpected to support metal-based industrialprojects in Oman and further support thegovernment’sdiversificationstrategytoboostlong-term investment opportunities in theinfrastructure,powerandminingsectors.

MARKET LAnDSCAPE:OmanisthesecondlargestcountryintheGCCwithexcellentgeologyexposurecontainingbothmetallicandnonmetallicminerals,whichcouldprovidesignificantopportunitiesforlocalandforeigncompanies.VariousmineralresourceshavebeenfoundinOmansuchaschromite,copper,gold,dolomite,zinc,limestone,marble,gypsum,silicasand,andmineralore.

Currentlymorethan300miningoperationsareactiveoutofwhich53areforchromite,7areforcopper,108foraggregate,31formarble,25forbuildingproducts,7forlimestone,threeeachforsandstoneandmanganese,fiveeachforgypsum,lateriteandclayfollowedbyoneforsaltanddunesand.In2014,Omanexporteditsentireproductionof2,300tonnesofcoppercathodesearningrevenuesofRO6.1mn.

Duringtheperiod,productionofmarblesroseto1.56mntonnesvaluedatRO21.7mnasagainst1.25mntonnesworthRO18mnproducedin2013.Thesultanateproduced8.72mntonnesoflimestoneworthRO9.9mnin2014,withcorrespondingfiguresfor2013being5.48mntonnesvaluedatRO7.8mn.Asmuchas3.38mntonnesofgypsumworthRO5mn,and751,200tonneofchromitevaluedatRO22.8mnwerealsoproducedin2014.Lateriteproductionreached753,100tonnesvaluedatRO2.2mnwhilequartzproductiontouched282,900tonnesworthRO1.1mn.Thesultanateproduced72,100tonnesofcopperworthRO22.5mnand37,500tonnesofmanganeseworthRO417,800whilekaolinproductionexceeded66,600tonnesvaluedatRO199,800.Othermineralsproducedin2014include12,900tonnesofsalt(RO451,000),305,400tonnesofmud(RO1.6mn)and60,200tonnesofsanddune(RO150,500).

ThereareseveralmajorprojectsunderwayinOman.FourconcessionsareplannedtominecopperatYanqul,KhabouraandSamad.Thelatestreleaseddataconfirmsthatmorethan40Mtofcopperorehasbeenprovedavailableasreserveswith1%-3%Cu.FeasibilitystudiesforthesefourCopperConcessionsareinthefinalstage.AccordingtonCSIstatistics,in2014,theSultanateproducedmineralsworthoverRO142.2mn.
