Gangs ‘n’ Gals Purple Tie Production Set in a 1920s ‘Speakeasy’ (an illegal bar during the prohibition era when the manufacturing and selling of alcohol was illegal) the Year 8 production is called Gangs ‘n’ Gals. Imagine the scene…’Big Bucks' Hot Joint’; the hottest speakeasy in town. There are Gangsters and Gals; Beatrice Riley, the star of the speakeasy, is going through tough times (putting up with catty, back-stabbing Velma) until she befriends new waiter, Donald. Owner of the speakeasy, Big Bucks, is having financial and family problems . His step-brother is stealing all of his business and the hottest joint in town might go under. Well done to Natasha Greenwood (7AMD) who competed in the final show of the season on Sunday at the Ilkley & District Riding Association at Nell Bank along with others from Acrecliffe Riding Centre. In the various classes she entered she achieved 3rd, 4th and 6th places and did extremely well in her first attempt at this type of competition.

Congratulations to our U14 hockey team who travelled The Grammar School of Leeds on Tuesday to play in the first round of the U14 National Schools Hockey Tournament. There were six teams entered; Ilkley being the only state school represented. The girls drew against Silcoates and Rishworth, lost against Wakefield Girl’s High School (WGHS) and The Grammar School at Leeds (GSAL) and beat Bradford Grammar School (BGS). The team finished a respectable 3rd place behind GSAL and WGHS with the top two teams going forward to the next round. Well done to all the girls involved and a big thank you to Miss Mitchell for umpiring!

Congratulations to Isabel Sowden (7ASH) who completed her first Aquathon, the Ilkley Aquathon, last Saturday. She swam 200m (8 lengths of Ilkley Swimming Pool) followed by an 1800m run.

Congratulations to our Year 7 rugby team who won the 1st Festival Series on Monday at Skipton RFC beating Settle school 12-7, South Craven 7-0 and Wharfedale School 12-7.

Well done to Matthew Revis (8SP) who was selected for the Yorkshire Schools U13s cricket squad earlier this year as an opening batsman. The team won the U13s Festival at Taunton, winning all five matches.

Yorkshire reached the Northern final as underdogs against old rivals Lancashire two weeks ago.

Lancashire were the only team to have beaten Yorkshire this season, having bowled out Yorkshire twice.

Matthew shared a century with his opening partner and was 58 not out when Yorkshire won by 9 wickets.

The managers end of season report quotes 'Matthew Revis is only the second Under 12 to score 400 runs in an Under 13 season'.

Matthew also recently attended an England Cricket Board taster day in Loughborough.

‘In the summer, we went on a Spanish language course in Salamanca, a beautiful city with lots of history and culture. It was a really enjoyable experience, we had a really great time and also learnt lots of Spanish vocabulary. We stayed with Spanish host families who gave us lots of typical Spanish food; paella, gazpacho, runner beans in tomato sauce and tortilla. We met lots of other students from lots of other countries, America, France and even the Philippines and Kenya, and made lots of friends.

Estudio Sampere is a really nice school and the teachers, Sergio and María were very friendly. We would recommend it to anyone interested in learning more Spanish! ¡Lo pasamos bomba en Salamanca!’

European Day of Languages Friday 26th September has been designated European Day of Languages. This is to promote an awareness of the huge range of languages out there in Europe. Lots of your teachers will join in and show off their language skills and you can have a go at the activities and games on the website. What's the longest word in German? What sound do dogs make in Spanish ? Find out the answers on European Day of Languages.

Why should I follow the one way system on P floor in the new block? When English staff ask students to follow the one way system you sometimes look a little perplexed and ask why. Some of you try to keep ignoring it. 'But my classroom's just there,' you may say pointing a hand vaguely up the corridor. A few years ago we didn't have a one way system. It was awful. The new block can hold up to 1000 students. They used to converge on P Floor walking both ways and a lot of students used to get hurt in the crush. When one student had been slammed into some lockers for the fourth time that week we decided to change things. That's when the one way system arrived. It applies to all students from Year 7 to Year 13. So please follow it- it's for your safety.

Calling All Actors! Ilkley Playhouse is putting on 'Our Day Out' by Willy Russell in February/March 2015. and they need a few boys to be part of the ensemble. Some of the boys would have lines as well. If you would like to be considered for what should be a really brilliant production, please see Mrs Woodhouse in the English Office or P3.

We are extremely proud to be part of the Ilkley Literature Festival for a

second year. The amount of events that are taking place is even bigger than

ever. Take at look at their website for more information on which literary

greats are heading to Ilkley in October.

We have sponsored the Michael Rosen event on Thursday 16th October
