Informatica PIM - Release Notes – Version 7.0.03
3
1 Foreword
With this version a new naming applies to our Product Information Management solution. Formerly known as “Heiler Enterprise PIM”, it is now called “Informatica PIM”.
As in the past, the solution consists of several software modules. Their new and old names are listed below:
Informatica PIM – Supplier Portal (formerly called “Heiler Supplier Exchange”)
Informatica PIM – Media Manager (formerly called “Heiler Media Portal”, “Heiler Media Manager”)
Informatica PIM – Server (formerly called “Heiler Product Manager”)
Informatica PIM – Desktop (formerly called “Rich Client” or “HPM Client”)
Informatica PIM – Web (formerly called “Web Access”)
PIM 7 (7.0.00), released earlier this year, already offered a wide range of new functionality and innovation in the areas of collaboration, data quality, and data mastering. With the new Service Pack 3, these functional areas have been significantly strengthened.
The new search functionality as part of the web UI offers strong search and after-search capabilities such as faceted search and filtering based on accumulated attribute values. Let your call center, sales, and customer care benefit from easy access to your latest product information.
The multichannel previews embedded in the web UI allow business users to collaborate and be part of the PIM process, e. g. by enabling them to provide online approval using Informatica PIM – Web. Image thumbnails in the table view and the new up- and download functionality for media assets extend the value of the web UI.
Quality data makes the difference. Informatica PIM 7 Service Pack 3 comes with an embedded Informatica Data Quality module and a set of ready-to-use PIM rules. Complex validations and cleansing rules can be defined and configured individually. These rules can be performed on demand, scheduled, or triggered by PIM system events. The results can be displayed in a quality dashboard on object level, and can be accumulated to build a channel-based quality status report.
In addition, several enhancements improve the usability in the areas of data mastering and administration.
Thumbnails of images can be visualized as columns in the standard table view. The multichannel previews introduced with version 6, previously displayed in a separate browser window, are now available as an embedded detail view in PIM – Desktop.
The visibility of perspectives and views in PIM – Desktop, as well as the visibility of detail tabs, contexts, and layouts in PIM – Web can be controlled on user group level independent of permissions and rights. This extends the capability to adapt UIs to user tasks and to define role-specific user front-ends. Lastly, being able to clone user groups and all related settings makes life now much easier for system administrators.
Providing individually tailored promotions for your customers requires that information from multiple data domains and source systems is combined and put in relation to each other. A bi-directional data exchange interface based on PIM 7 Service Pack 3 is available as a solution offering to integrate product information with Informatica MDM.

In early Q1 2014, a certified GDSN adapter will be offered based on Informatica PIM 7 and Informatica B2B tools. It is planned that the messaging choreography for data sources and data recipients will be supported.
2 PIM Desktop
Informatica Data Quality Integration
With this release it is now possible to license the native integration module of Informatica Data Quality for PIM. This enables the usage of a complete and centralized engine for all data quality requirements within PIM. Thus it is now possible to implement consistent, re-usable and automated data quality processes throughout the entire data life cycle.
The style of implementation enables the design of data quality rules through Informatica Data Quality (Informatica Developer) that can then be executed directly within the PIM server environment. Therefore the Informatica Data Quality Virtual Data Machine (VDM) is being used which includes the functionalities of the Informatica Runtime SDK plus Metadata and Content Storage capabilities used to store reference tables and dictionaries (e.g. for standardization look ups within certain the data quality rules).
Rules are created using Informatica Developer as design environment and then exported as XML files (plus additional reference data as ZIP files) to be imported into the PIM server environment. The execution of the rules by the VDM is initiated by the PIM server process and controlled by the Informatica Runtime SDK.
To allow you to use this new feature straight away a pre-defined rule package for the default PIM data model is also included (amongst other rules it contains checks for attribute values against features of a structure group, color standardizations, GTIN validations and many more). The package includes the most typical rules and is shipped as part of the Sample Data for Informatica PIM.

5
New 'Data quality' Perspective for Rule Administration
The 'Data quality' perspective allows administrators to group and configure data quality rules as well as to schedule their execution against defined data sets.
To configure the rules available in the system the view 'Data quality configuration' is introduced. It enables the grouping and structuring of the various rule configurations that are available in the system. A rule configuration always consists of a name, a description, the selected rule (rule name) coming from Informatica Data Quality and the port configuration settings to map the PIM data fields as input or output values of the rule. Every rule may have several input ports and output ports that define the incoming parameters needed to execute the rule and the PIM data fields to which the results will be written back.
Informatica PIM – Release Notes – Version 7.0.03
6
The 'Data quality scheduling' view enables the planning of what data quality rules should be
executed when and against which data set.
When data quality checks should be executed can be managed in the tree view on the left. In general it is possible to schedule/trigger data quality checks timer controlled or based on the events of 'import completed', 'merge started' and 'merge completed'. The middle area of the view defines parameters like concerned data set and time pattern or e.g. import mapping (when triggered by 'import completed') that triggers the execution. Finally the frame on the right defines which rules the scheduling configuration should execute against the corresponding data set.
The 'Channels' view on the very left of the perspective is used to group several rule configurations together which then specifies the level of quality needed for data in context of a given target channel approval.
Informatica PIM - Release Notes – Version 7.0.03
7
Channels
With this Version the channel data type is being introduced. A Channel is an object which can represent a target system like a web shop, or a print publication or may also be used for a target group.
The channels are used to group a set of data quality rules together, so for each channel it can be defined which rules are in context relevant. For example the channels can vary by their language and thus also different language specific rules are relevant. This channel is used to easily select a set of rules for the scheduling of specific data quality checks, or gives the maintenance user the possibility to filter data quality results, which are stored in the Quality Status entity to only the ones which are relevant for him. Also the quality overview which gives a quality summary at a glance for an item is calculated per channel.
Informatica PIM – Release Notes – Version 7.0.03
8
Quality Status
The results of the different data quality checks are saved and can easily be visualized and analyzed. The user has now the possibility to see the results of the rules in a detail view including the descriptions of the rules and cause of the problems. Also additional information which are provided by the quality checks like a score can be displayed. The rules can be filtered to only show the results which are of interest for a specific channel.
Informatica PIM - Release Notes – Version 7.0.03
9
Quality Overview – Ready for Channel
With the new quality overview it is easily possible to see if an item is ready for an export to a particular channel. In order to be ready for a channel the item has to pass all data quality checks, which have been defined for the channel. This summary includes also the last execution date of the rule and whether an administrative user has ignored the result of a particular rule.
This summary per channel, as well as a result and the message of a certain rule are clearly visualized in the main table, and it is possible to do further analyzes via the grouping and filtering functionality.
To avail a maintenance user with the quality summary a new filter functionality has been introduced for report queries, which provides the possibility to filter the existing report queries like “all items classified by …” or “items below this structure group” with additional quality parameters. These queries can also be used for a more flexible definition of assortments and tasks which includes the quality summary or the result of a specific rule. The quality status filter can be leveraged using PIM Desktop, PIM Web or the PIM Service API.

Thumbnail Images in Table
The standard tables for products, variants and items have been enhanced with a new feature. Now it is possible to display a preview image of the item directly in the main table. This gives a quick visual impression of the items and helps identifying the relevant items more quickly. Multiple columns with different images are selectable, and can easily be chosen in the field selection dialog.
Informatica PIM - Release Notes – Version 7.0.03
11
'Multichannel Preview' View
The mulitchannel preview, which has been introduced with Version 6.0 is now available directly in the PIM Desktop as a separate view. This gives the user a more integrated experience and more efficiency in data maintenance. He can see the channel specific preview directly while he is editing the items, without having the need to switch applications. The new view is capable of handling single as well as multi item previews and comes with a refresh button to easily update the preview. In the view the status of the items which are currently being previewed can be changed to support approval processes.
Informatica PIM – Release Notes – Version 7.0.03
12
Front End Visibility
A new administrative concept for the visibility of the user interface has been introduced. With the fronted visibility it is possible to lighten up the user interface by having the possibility to define the visibility of different front end elements. This is possible per user group, so different user groups can have tailored user interfaces dependent on their needs. With this new concept it can be defined which Perspectives and Views in PIM Desktop, as well as Tabs, Contexts, and Layouts in PIM Web are visible for the selected user group.
The rights work additionally to the action rights, which means, that for example the user needs right to access items in general and the visibility for the respective item views.
Informatica PIM - Release Notes – Version 7.0.03
13
New Perspective 'Overview (items)'
To ensure that customers can see all relevant information at a glance we introduced the 'overview' perspective. This perspective works on a two level product paradigm (see screen shot) as well as on a three level product paradigm PIM.
Informatica PIM – Release Notes – Version 7.0.03
14
Cloning of User Groups including Rights
A new functionality is the cloning of user groups, which gives the possibility to duplicate a user group, including all rights which have been defined for this group. This can save a lot of time for the administration of user groups, if groups have similar or overlapping responsibilities.
Informatica PIM - Release Notes – Version 7.0.03
15
PIM & MDM – a Foundation for more Relevance
Offering the same product to two customers of different age, different personal preferences. Personalize the promotions to your customer’s needs by using different images, attributes, and marketing texts; but also communicate the advertisements through the preferred channel of your customer.
Information from multiple data domains and source systems has to be combined and related for such use cases. For an integration of product information into the Informatica MDM a bi-directional data synchronization which can be performed on demand, timer driven, or event driven is established based on PIM 7 Service Pack 3 as a solution offering.
Informatica PIM – Release Notes – Version 7.0.03
16
GS 1 Support (Informatica B2B and PIM)
Getting trusted a high quality data from your preferred suppliers. This is the intention of data recipients connecting a GDSN data pool. Still having the full control of what assortment is received from which supplier is granted by the subscription mechanism of the GS 1 based messaging.
Having a clear definition of the attribution of products, providing high quality data once to a central
place but publishing the data from there to many customers, that’s what data sources are looking
for. Anyhow the control to whom the data is distributed is still given by performing explicit
publications.
Early Q1/2014 a certified GDSN adapter will be offered based on Informatica PIM 7 and the Informatica B2B tools. The communication is planned to support the messaging choreography for data sources and data recipients.
Informatica PIM - Release Notes – Version 7.0.03
17
3 PIM Web
Support of Multichannel Previews
With the new version it is possible to preview product information directly in PIM Web for different target channels.
The responsible product manager can see f.e. how the product would appear in the web shop or on the mobile commerce site and can give its approval by simply changing the status. A work flow could be triggered by the approval and send the respective data directly to the output channel e.g. to the web shop.
The templates are based on export format templates and are stored in PIM Desktop. All available fields can be used building up the templates and any CSS-Style to preview the channels.
Informatica PIM – Release Notes – Version 7.0.03
18
New Full Text Search
A new powerful full text search on PIM data (products, variants, items) was integrated. It enables quick and targeted searching for all user groups to find the required information easily.
It supports both; full text searches and guided searches by product attributes, as well as targeted navigation within the search results. The user can enter free text for searching and get back results sorted by relevance. The search result can be limited by pre-configured facets and product attributes.
The search indexes are administrated through PIM Desktop and multiple indexes are supported e.g. “Master Catalog” and “Long Tail”.
Different use cases/target groups were addressed; e.g. sales, customer support, ordering information, long tail scenarios.
Informatica PIM - Release Notes – Version 7.0.03
19
Immediate Export
The Immediate export functionality enables the execution of an export of selected product data. Product information, single products or the whole table, can be exported and passed on by means of files e.g. CSV, XML etc. If several files are created with the immediate export (e.g. CSV and images zip) all files can be downloaded by the user.
Informatica PIM – Release Notes – Version 7.0.03
20
Improvements in Multimedia Attachments Area
Media files can now be uploaded, deleted and single files downloaded in the Multimedia Attachments area.
Uploaded files can then be assigned to a product, variant or item. So the assignment of medias can still be done from product, variant or item perspective, but now also from the media perspective where the user chooses the product, variant or item that is target for the assignment.
Informatica PIM - Release Notes – Version 7.0.03
21
UI Improvements
A more intuitive and easy-to-use icon navigation provides the different context categories for a quick grasping and replaces the previous navigation paradigm.
Furthermore the table was enhanced and it is possible to show thumbnails of the displayed objects, directly in the table. This gives a quick visual impression of the products and helps identifying the relevant products more quickly.
Additionally the Rich Text Editor was improved and in line editing of rich text fields is now possible (f.e. long description). This benefits faster translations, as all text fields are displayed at once, compared to the former edit modus working with a separate pop-up window.
