September 23, 2015 Dear Directors, Auditions for the 2015 Southeastern Virginia Senior Regional Orchestra will be held on Monday, October 12, 2015. The audition event will take place at Oscar Smith High School in Chesapeake. Please note that ALL registration information and audition fees need to be sent to Timothy Rossettini at Tallwood High School. No papers will be accepted on-site. You will mail their audition fees ($10.25/student) to Tallwood High School (Attention-Timothy Rossettini). Please see the attached “Director’s Pre-registration Information and Checklist” for specific instructions. Please note that all Pre-Registration Names and Fees MUST be submitted to me by Wednesday, October 7, 2015 at 5:00pm. There will be NO registration after this date and time, and there will be NO on-site registration. It is your professional obligation to be on time, and I thank you in advance for your courtesy. As mandated by VBODA, if you have students auditioning from your school, you are required to attend the audition event. Should you be unable to attend the audition event, you must obtain a qualified designee and must provide the audition chair with documentation signed by your principal that they are aware of your absence. Keep in mind that your designee will not only serve to oversee your student(s) the day of the audition, but will be asked to work at the audition event as well. If you or your designee are not present on the day of the auditions, your students will be disqualified from both the audition and the event. Email: [email protected] The audition fee is $10.25 per person. This year there is a ONLINE pre-registration process. There will be NO ON-SITE REGISTRATION. Students that are accepted into Senior Regional Orchestra will participate in the event that is scheduled for all day Friday, November 13, 2015, and Saturday, November 14, 2015 at Kellam High School in Virginia Beach, VA. Students are allowed to audition on ONE INSTRUMENT ONLY, with the following exceptions: Piccolo & Flute, Tenor Trombone & Bass Trombone. The audition fee must be paid for each instrument on which a student auditions. Percussion audition will be $10.25 total. Auditions: Woodwind and brass students will be asked to perform 2 major scales in as many complete octaves as possible on their instrument, as well as their chromatic scale the range of their instrument. All 12 major scales and the chromatic scale should be memorized. Percussionists will perform 2 major scales and a chromatic scale, plus snare drum rudiments and rolls as well as timpani tuning. All students will also be required to sight read and perform a prepared selection. Please review the audition requirements for each individual instrument included in this document. Registration: All registration forms must IN MY HANDS delivered by October 7, 2015, 5:00pm. All registration forms should be submitted along with a school or booster check for student fees, a copy of your NAFME card (front & back), or $121 non-member fee IN MY HANDS no later than October 7, 2015, 5:00pm. Please adhere to this deadline! CHECKS SHOULD BE MADE PAYABLE TO: TALLWOOD HIGH SCHOOL. Please have “2015 SRO Audition Fees” written in the memo line (bottom left corner) of the check.

Final information, schedules, etc. will be E-MAILED to you by October 9, 2015. Please be certain that you have your principal sign the registration form, and send a photocopy of your NAFME card (front and back) or $121 non-member fee. PRE-REGISTRATION! All directors MUST input their students’ information using the Google Form http://goo.gl/forms/gcaCNy22ax. You will need to submit the Google Form once for each student (unless you have a student doubling [flute and piccolo, for example], in which case you’ll need to submit a form twice for that student). If you need to make any changes to student information after a Google Form has been submitted, please email [email protected] with changes. Contact Timothy Rossettini with any questions or problems. Handwritten lists are not acceptable. Students that are not submitted through the Google Form will not be eligible to audition! No refunds will be issued for dropped students. All music and scale requirements may be distributed immediately to your students when they become available. Please begin to familiarize your students with the audition process, procedures, and “what to do if…” situations. This will make the process (hopefully) easier for all involved. You are auditioning for the opportunity to perform in Senior Regional Symphony Orchestra. Only

students who are selected to participate in and who fulfill their obligation of participation in the Senior Regional Symphony Orchestra are eligible to audition for the All-Virginia Symphony Orchestra.

• Audition/Registration fee is $10.25 per student.

• Each student must complete a Student Registration/Commitment Form, including required

student, parent and director signature. THIS IS DUE PRIOR TO THE AUDITION!

• Students are responsible for turning in their signed Commitment Form to their teacher, who will mail all forms & money, due to Timothy Rossettini, Director of Bands at Tallwood High School in Virginia Beach no later than 5:00pm on Wednesday, October, 7th, 2015. Registration forms will not be accepted after that time. Everyone must be pre-registered.

• No individual/group/school registration at the audition event will be permitted. Students who are not included with their director’s pre-registration will not be permitted to audition.

• Warm-up in designated area(s) only. You may only play your instrument in the warm-up room or audition room.

• Students must adhere to rules concerning behavior as stated in section III of the VBODA Manual, and in accordance with school policy.

• Do not talk in the audition room – you will be disqualified. If you have a question or a problem, present your question or problem to the runner outside the room. The runner will ask the judge your question or get help for your problem.

• Electronic devices of any kind will not be allowed in the audition rooms.

2015 VBODA ALL-STATE PERCUSSION AUDITION ETUDE INSTRUCTIONS / DIAGRAM From player’s left to right: [ as in diagram ] 32” timp, 29” timp, 26” timp, 23” timp, xylophone, provided snare drum, optional personal snare drum. Use four (4) music stands: 1. In front of and in between the 29” and 26” timpani 2. In front of the xylophone 3. In front of the provided snare drum 4. In front of a personal snare drum [ optional ] Use two (2) stick trays: 1. Between the 26” and 23” timpani [ timpani mallets ( 2 pair) ] 2. In front of and in between xylophone and snare drum [ xylophone mallets (4), snare sticks ] Player will be seated to play timpani at the timpani area, perform on xylophone at the xylophone area, and perform on snare drum at the snare drum area for the etude. Player may use a personal SD. Place it to the right of the provided SD as you enter room.
