Dear parents and carers, I thank all the families who have promptly paid school contributions which support the programs offered to BPS students which sit outside the DoE funding. Innovative programs such as Philosophy, The Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program and Mandarin are NOT paid for by the Department of Education. These programs clearly enrich the educational experience for students but we need your support to continue offering them. The cost is less than $10 per week. Please consider a payment plan if you cannot pay the full amount. Call the office for details. Bondi Public School values the partnership that we have with parents in delivering quality teaching and learning initiatives, such as the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden and Mandarin and philosophy lessons. These programs are additional to the mandatory curriculum taught at our school. To support these programs, families are asked to help with their delivery through a voluntary school contribution, which can be paid in parts or in full to suit the needs of each family. Student participation in these programs is not conditional on payment of the voluntary contribution. Please do not hesitate to contact the school if you would like to discuss any aspects of the extra- curricular programs on offer or the request for voluntary parent contributions. Your child’s teacher will be conducting Parent Teacher interviews in Week 10 commencing Monday 1 st April. Interviews are an important way to communicate with your child’s teacher about his/her progress. Information on how to book an interview will be sent out closer to the date. School photos were done on Tuesday. The photographers will be back later in the year to take team and group photos. Congratulations to the students who braved the heat at the Zone Swimming Carnival last week. You did yourselves and Bondi Public School proud. In similar fashion to last year, Bondi finished a respectable 5th out of 16 schools. Several students have qualified for the regional carnival to be held at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre in Homebush. Well done to Ollie M, Jade D, Georgia S, Callum K, Hugo F, Rowan M & Jet C. Congratulations must also go to the following students who have been selected to represent Sydney Coastal in their respective sports in the next round of trials. SAKG Kitchen Garden

Hello from the Stephanie Alexander Kitchen Garden Program (SAKGP).

These last few weeks has seen squash, eggplant, zucchini, capsicum and okra spring into life. The seeds that students have planted are beginning to germinate so are nursery is full of babies. Beds are being cleared and our versatile horse manure is being incorporated into our soil to top up the garden. The rain has not dampened our enthusiasm. It may keep us from the garden on occasions but discussions were alive in the classroom as we tackled the meaning of “photosynthesis”. Laura Nihill and Maria Keis from 6B contributed their pictures that were worked on to explain the process.

The kitchen is going off with a vibrant chickpea stew using tumeric, kale and eggplant from our garden. There are also some tasty and healthy chocolate and hemp seed biscuits and beautiful pizza. Please remember the kitchen needs you. Parent volunteers to make it work. Please volunteer and sign up at https://signup.com/go/n5ciGB.

I have on sale in the garden the following plants: silverbeet, spearmint and capsicum. Please see photos. All small plants are $3 and grown and planted by the students of BPS. All proceeds will go back into the SAKGP to buy much needed supplies. We also have some frangipani trees ready to go at $15 each. To purchase email me, Fiona on [email protected] . I am also connecting with class Dojo so will eventually be accessible via that portal.

Until then it looks like we are in for some more rain this week. So batten down the hatches and remember: If you have a garden and a library, you have everything you need. Marcus Tullius Cicero

Cheers,

Fiona and Sam
