VALUES

To touch lives: We want to instill a love and joy of all things 'dance'. In 10 , 20, 30 years time we want our studentsto look back with fond memories of their dancing days. The fun times, the hard work, the dedication and

perseverance, the goals achieved, the friendships built and most of all the impact dance has made in shaping theminto being the best version of themselves.

Resilience: We want students to understand that dance requires work and dedication. We are here to teach themthe skills both mentally and physically. Dancing can be challenging and we want to open their eyes to the different

aspects and opportunities available. We need to build resilient children that persevere if they don't win acompetition or get the part they hoped for. We strive for excellence while building respectful, understanding,

compassionate and resilient young dancers.

Pride: Students pride themselves on grooming, commitment, dedication, kindness and achievements. At Jamie's wewill help fuel their passion and positivity so they are PROUD of what they do, achieve and who they become.

Caring: Our teachers develop wonderful relationships with our students. We care deeply about the wellbeing of

each and every student. Your child will be nurtured and guided along their dance journey and taught also to care forothers. We wish to instill this wonderful trait in each student so they to can feel the warmth, compassion and love.

Team environment: Every student is a part of OUR Family and we want them to feel comfortable, supported andsupportive towards others. We create a safe environment so students, families and staff can work together in a

harmonious team environment.

In Class: Students will refrain from talking during class unless called upon by a teacher.    Food and drink are not permitted in the studios. Water bottles are acceptable.

Students will not chew gum while in class.    Dance barres are for stretching and class work. Students must not hang on the barres.

Please help us keep the mirrors clean by not touching or leaning on them.

General:    Please do not bring toys or valuables to class

Please label all removable items your child wears or brings to class    Do not where dance shoes outside

Lost and found items will be held inside the main studio. Please check as the tub is cleared out periodically andusable items may be given to charity.

Outside of the studio and at events:

You show respect to fellow students, families and teachers. You talk nicely and positively about others, our studio and show curtesy to everyone.

At performances:

You wear your Jamie’s Academy of Dance Hoodie/Tshirt to and from all events. This is to represent and show thatyou are a part of our team and family.

You are always on your very best behaviour, use your manners and show curtesy to everyone!  While sitting in the audience you understand that talking while someone is on stage is very distracting to other

audience members and people may think you are talking about the performance. We love hearing you talk lovingly and positively about other performances, performers and schools.

You support other competitor’s and congratulate them on their performance. One of the best ways to conduct yourselves at these events is to uphold the greatest respect to your fellow team

members and teacher’s.

DANCE TRAINING CULTURE

I DO NOT TRY TO DANCE BETTER THAN ANYONE ELSE.

I ONLY TRY TO DANCE BETTER THAN MYSELF

ATTENDANCE

We encourage you to think about a minimum of two year's attendance. For students to get the most out of theirdance experience we encourage a two year minimum commitment. In this time students learn the basics, then theyimprove on their skills, then they learn to master their skills and strive for more. From a parent's point of view, you

outlay money and would also like to see your child's improvement - this doesn't happen over night. When yououtlay the costs for uniform, you are likely to get two years out of leotards and jackets which is perfect for the

commitment time. Our school encourages parents to stress the importance of not missing class unless there is an emergency or

sickness. Regular and consistent attendance is important. The progress of the entire class is hindered when classmust be stopped to reteach what was missed at an earlier session. We also find that students feel a lack of

confidence in class after several absences.

CHALLENGE & COMMITMENT Teaching a child the meaning of commitment is a basic building block of character. If your child seems discouraged, please let us know. Many times there may be a simple solution and often an extra dose of encouragement may do

the trick!Sometimes the strenuous nature of combinations, the challenge of learning something new and the difficulty of

completing a task presents an overwhelming reaction in a student. We want to stress the importance of finishing aclass and learning to respond appropriately to a challenge.

EXAMINATIONS

The Southern Federation of Dance exam syllabus is taught in our classes. Examinations are not compulsory. The exams are a way of recognizing the progress of students annually and are designed to give each student asense of achievement and pride. Following the exams each student will receive a written report, certificate and

medal at a small presentation held at our studio. In enrolling in an exam, the student is making a commitment and it is important that parents support their childrenin working towards their exam. Jamie's Academy of Dance is also focused on enabling students to achieve theirpersonal best and thus all students enrolled in an exam will be required to attend a compulsory ‘Exam Intensive’

and an ‘Exam Practice Session’ just prior to the examination dates. Both of these are key training opportunities thatare designed to ensure every student enters their exam confidently and well prepared. The Exam Intensive is the

last week/weekend of the June/July School holidays. Exams will take place the following weekend.

PERFORMANCEWatching the excitement and seeing the smiles on our student's faces when they come off stage is absolutelybeautiful. It is for this reason we try to give our student's as many performance opportunities as we can. Every

moment on stage or in front of an audience helps to build confident young dancers.

IMPORTANT CLASSESClassical Ballet is the backbone of all other dance styles. It is an excellent form of exercise and is one of the mostchallenging styles of dance. Ballet also teaches self-discipline and gracefulness as well as improving flexibility,

stamina and posture. It is important for any student who one day hopes to dance on Pointe (the tips of their toes)that they attend as many classical classes as possible. It takes years of training to strengthen the muscles and

ankles. Whilst most ballerinas start at a young age it is never too late to begin.

EXTENSION CLASSESJamie's recommends students from 9 years of age and up participate in all corresponding extension

classes.  These classes focus on stretching, turns, leaps and technique and will further the student’s flexibility, strength, technique and overall dance quality.

ANNUAL EVENTSMAROONDAH FESTIVAL

Each year Jamie's students are given the opportunity to perform at the Maroondah Festival (Sunday after Cup Day- November). This is a great opportunity for students to practice their performance skills especially ahead of ourend of year concert. The festival is a great fun filled family day held at Town Park, Croydon. Student and class

groups selected to perform will be notified closer to the event.

FUNDRAISINGCadbury fundraising takes place during Term 2. If you are unable to help with the fundraising would you please let

Jamie know by the end of Term 1, otherwise all students will be allocated a box. If you think you are able to sellmore than one box would you please also inform Jamie.

END OF YEAR CONCERT

Our end of year concert is such a fun and exciting time for students, a truly special memory that will last forever.Students and teachers work extremely hard on learning/teaching routines for the five months leading up to the

show case, it is their special moment to perform for you on the big stage. In return, it is such a proud moment forparents when you see how far your child has come. Students get to wear amazing costumes which we start

organising early on in the year. The best bit for you is that there are no extra surprise invoices issued to hire thesecostumes. You get to leave all the costumes at the theatre after the final performance and we will wash and take

care of them for you. A stage performance adds another element in building confidence, team work and quickthinking. For students there is nothing more inspiring than watching the older students. Seeing what they can do

and what you can aspire to is extremely motivating.
