Establish your career in taxEssential for all new entrants to the Australian tax profession, the course builds a solid career foundation through hands-on training, and provides a pathway for registering as a tax agent.

Developed and delivered by experienced tax practitionersHighly regarded by employers, CTA1 Foundations provides you with a working knowledge of the tax compliance requirements of the Australian tax system, and other key principles and processes, which are required to be successful in the tax profession and an asset to you firm.

What will you learn?On completion of CTA1 Foundations, you will be able to:

� complete simple tax returns for individuals, partnerships, trusts and companies

� identify and apply relevant tax legislation and guidelines in common circumstances

� complete PAYG and BAS statements in order to register as a BAS agent

� interpret the tax consequences of business structures

� understand the compliance responsibilities of a tax agent

� calculate and explain the impact of CGT and GST on individuals and businesses.

Career outcomesThe career opportunities following the CTA1 Foundations include, but are not limited to:

� accountant

� bookkeeper/BAS Agent

� cadet/graduate/trainee accountant

� consultant

� financial planner

� graduate lawyer

� tax analyst

� pathway to tax agent.

RecognitionGraduates of CTA1 Foundations will gain one elective subject exemption from the Bachelor of Taxation qualification at the Australian School of Taxation & Business Law (Atax) at the University of New South Wales.

This course, together with CTA2 Advanced, contributes to the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) approved Course in Australian Taxation Law award for registering as a tax agent. CTA1 Foundations also provides a pathway to the CA and CPA Program education exemptions.
