COMPARATIVE FORMS They are used to compare a person, animal or thing to another.

RULES FOR THE FORMATION OF COMPARATIVE ADJECTIVES

One-syllable adjectives

RULE 1

The comparative form of adjectives monosyllables created by adding "er"

This job is closer than the other one Ana is taller than Juana

If the adjective ends in "e" is added "r“

Juan is finer than Pedro Dexter is wiser than Didi

RULE 3

If the adjective ends with a consonant and before it there is a vowel consonant is doubled and "er" is added

Daniel is fatter than Simon Ana is bigger than Petra

Those ending in "W" are not duplicated

Two-syllable adjectives

RULE 1

To form the comparative most two syllable adjectives must be placed "more" for positive and negative comparative comparative "less" is placed

Yajaira is more beautiful Carmen Studying is more important than dancing

RULE 2

If the adjective ends in "Y" and replaced with "i" and "er" is added

Francisco is happier than Ana Fernando is angry than José

Adjectives of three or more syllables

RULE 3

When two-syllable adjectives ending in "er", "will" or "ow" they are adding "er“

To form the comparative of these adjectives "more" is added

Big dogs are gentler than small dog

The roads in this town are narrower than the roads in the city

Teo is more generous than Peter Women are more intelligent tan men

SUPERLATIVE FORMS

The superlative is the form of an adjective or adverb that shows which thing has that quality above or below the level of the others. It denotes the greatest degree regarding the quality of the adjective used.

RULES FOR THE FORMATION OF SUPERLATIVE ADJECTIVES

RULE 1

The superlative form of adjectives monosyllables created by adding "est"

Mrs. Smith is the shortest person in the group.

Bob and Sam laugh loudest at Mary's joke.

If the adjective ends in "e" is added "st“

Ana house is the biggest of all house on the block

Pedro is the fattest person I know

RULE 3

If the adjective ends with a consonant and before it there is a vowel consonant is doubled and added "est“
