Inle Lake is found in the Shan State in a valley surrounded by lush green mountains. The lake is freshwater and is home to around 70,000 people who mostly survive through fishing and farming. The quaint village of Indein on the western side of the lake is accessed by a winding river that is too shallow to use late in the dry season.

The 5-day rotating market around Inle Lake offers a good opportunity to meet many different local tribes.

Indein, this mysterious place is at the end of the marvellous Indein creek, which connected with Inle Lake just after the Phaung Daw Oo Pagoda.

The creek is narrow with many twist and turns. Since the both sides are paddy fields you can see the farmers ploughing and harrowing by water buffaloes. At the lunch time while groups of farmers having lunch the water buffaloes enjoy themselves dipping in the creek

At many places in the creek the farmers dam up the water by bamboo barriers to irrigate the paddy fields. Indein water is not only useful for irrigation also for bathing and washing cloths.

It is compulsory to see Novice monks, buffalo boys and village girls wash and swim in the creek.

Shopping is an entirely different experience at Inle Lake and because it is a rural area, Inle Lake does not have malls, shopping centres or supermarkets.

The Inthar people that live on the lake get what they need from floating markets present in every village.

The sellers carry all their merchandise on boats and conduct sales from there. With so many people on boats hawking their wares, there are times when the canals of the lake experience heavy traffic.

Shopping at Inle Lake is also dependent on the five-day rotating markets. For tourists, the experience can be tricky since the market does not have a specific schedule and venue

The market is open every five days, and its location constantly changes. For market days, the tribe people from the hills come down to sell their goods.

For those looking for a particular product, the shopping can be done in the village in which the product is made.

A local market called 5 days market serves most common shopping needs and is held daily but the location of the event rotates through five different sites around the lake area, thus each of them hosting an itinerant market every fifth day.

Every 5 day all the hill tribe people come down from the mountains to buy and sell their goods, such as many different hand -made items . The market place is alive with activity and the hill tribe people wear their colorful, uniquely woven national costumes decorated with artistically designed jewelry

The village of Indain is also a tourist destination for the ruins of ancient pagodas, and Nyaung Oak is one of them. Nyaung Oak is not a single pagoda; rather, it is a group of pagodas found immediately behind the village. The ancient pagodas may be crumbling, but the intricate details of the structures can still be seen. In some parts, the elaborate stucco carvings of celestial beings and mythical animals are still apparent
