Super “Double 6” with Sanjeev
This is a series where we ask 6 impactful questions to the selected
interviewees. However, this time it being Sanjeev, we have a
double six.
Catch up with Sanjeev as he opens up about his journey as an
entrepreneur, his life and his views on Hari Sadus of the company.
_____________________________________________________________________________________________________________
1. What was your vision when you started your journey as an entrepreneur? Has it been
achieved?
Quite honestly I did not have much of a vision when I quit my job in more than twenty
years ago and became an entrepreneur. I just had a couple of small ideas and a desire to
be independent. I was essentially rejecting a life as an executive in a large MNC and
choosing a different way of life. And so I teamed up with a friend and we started two
small businesses – one in salary surveys and another in trademark searches. We kept
our costs really low and so were able to break even and survive. The vision evolved as
the years went by and along with that came the ambition that Info Edge must become
an innovative, large and valuable company.
2. You are now actively investing in budding projects. What is the difference you see in
the young entrepreneurs today and one’s 15 years back?
I think young people today - whether entrepreneurs or managers or engineers or in anyother area are brighter, bolder and more ambitious. They are far more confident than
my generation was. We were apprehensive, nervous, risk averse - a little scared. We
were people with small ambitions. And this is a national trend. Across the country the
youth are far more ambitious than my generation was. When I was growing up India had
a national inferiority complex. And I think this progress is good – each new generation
must move forward.

3. Who is your role model and what to do you admire in him/her?
I have no role models. I have had the benefit of working with some very talented people
over the last thirty years and from each one of them I have learnt something. You learn
the most in the first two or three years of your career. And I was fortunate to have
worked in Lintas for three years straight out of college. At that time some of the most
talented people in advertising worked there. And I learnt about the importance of working with people, of understanding the consumer, of clear focused communication,
of strategic thinking, of a bias for action, of attention to detail, of humility, of a service
attitude and so many other things. I have tried to carry this with me since then.
4. What is the biggest learning you have had in your successful journey?
Great leaders have to personally be a magnet for talent. They need to be the kind of
person that people want to work with.
5. How conducive you think are the Indian government policies for new businesses? If
given a choice what would you like change as far as policies are concerned?
I believe that the government should employ only ten percent of the people it does andit should pay those people ten times the salary they currently get. Simplify regulation
and processes, get the best talent into the government, pay them so well that there is
no incentive for corruption, free the economy and take quick and correct decisions and
enforce laws fast in the case of transgression.
Unfortunately I also believe this will never happen
6. You have been a young achiever and have won many awards for business excellence.
What personal qualities to you attribute it to?
My ability to work with people. I have been fortunate to have great people workingalongside me.
7. If you could go back in time, what one thing would you like to change?
We were underinvested in Engineering and Product for the first five years of Naukri. In
hindsight we should have built the product and tech competency earlier.
8. Do you think there are Hari Sadus in Infoedge? If so what is your messages for them?
I am sure there are some. I hope they are an endangered species. They must remember
that employee retention is primarily the line manager’s responsibility. HR will only
facilitate. When a good employee leaves it is the supervisor’s failure.
9. What are the 3 qualities you want to see in all the employees of Infoedge?
Commitment, Compassion and practical creativity
10. How do you want to define the cultural DNA of Infoedge? How do you intend to
promote it?
Empowered, entrepreneurial, open, apolitical, customer centric, high energy, innovative
7/29/2019 Inside Edge - Jan'13

and quick are some of the adjectives that come to mind when I think of a desirable
culture for Info Edge
11. How would your family describe you?
Stubborn
12. Your idea of a perfect day
Spending time with the family

Quick Bytes naukrigulf.comFrom the Lab:
Naukrigulf released Unregistered Apply flow on jobs on 12th December. This is in addition to
the already existing New User Apply flow. The ability to make an unregistered apply makes
Naukrigulf an open site. Users no longer need to be registered to apply to jobs.
Clicking on the “Apply without Registration” link from JD leads users to a short 7-field form,
which covers all the important candidate information. Attaching a CV document is also
compulsory. Therefore, unregistered applies carry significant value for a recruiter. After user
has filled the form, his/her apply is confirmed and the user lands on page 1 of Resume Manager
where a full registration is pitched to the jobseeker. If user does not register immediately, chase mailers are sent to the user over a period of one month to pitch for acquisition.
The unregistered flow also did A/B testing between two different short forms: one with the Key
Skills field and one without. The form without Key Skills had a 29% landing to apply ratio and
the form with this additional field had a 27% ratio.
The addition of Unregistered Apply flow has led to an increase in applies as well as acquisitions
over New User Apply flow alone. For comparison, here is per day average before and after
Unregistered Apply went live.
Before (New User Flow
only)
After (Unregistered + New User
Flow)
Applies 560 1133
Acquisitions 486 614
