Dickinson Area Dollars for Scholars is a non-profit organiza-
tion affiliated with Scholarship America. Our local organi-
zation raises funds to provide college scholarships for both Dickinson High & Trinity High
School seniors. Our scholarships are not strictly academic driven, with some issued on a
student’s desire to pursue a trade, or community involvement or dealing with adversity.
Members involved in the Dickinson Chapter consist of educators, business people from the
community, and high school students. Our Chapter is involved in various fundraising
activities throughout the year. We also provide support to other organizations such as
assisting with the Dickinson Chamber’s 3 on 3 basketball tournament.
Smithsonian Student Travel is an organization based in Washington,
D.C. that guides high school students from across the country
through a learning experience in our nation’s capital. This is an
excellent opportunity for the students to learn about our nation’s
government and its history.
The students connect with several organizations in our community to
arrange work opportunities to pay for their trip. In Washington, stu-
dents participate in workshops and debates, they meet members of
Congress from their home state, and they tour the many historic sites
that the city has to offer. The New York City portion of the trip in-
cludes stops at the United Nations building, Ellis Island, the Statue of
Liberty, and Times Square
Close Up is a week-long, government, history, and cultural study trip
to Washington, D.C. and New York City. It has provided over 300
Dickinson High School students an opportunity to go on a trip of a
lifetime over the past 25 years. Our group does many community
service projects as well as fundraisers for the trip. Close Up provides
many life lessens to our students!
