My Insights: Teaching as a Profession

Final Paper

My passage to becoming a teacher started this semester when I started to take the class,

Teaching as a Profession with Professor Cristy Miclat. Even before taking the units of Professional

Education, I was so sure I really wanted to enter the teaching profession. A year ago, I was inquisitive

about the opportunities that I could pursue with the profession, but then after I’ve talked to a lot of

teachers, I have decided to take the course with the best intentions to succeed and get my foot in the

door into the teaching career.

The best way for someone to determine if they really would like to go into a certain field is to

observe and talk to others who are already in the discipline. This is especially important for future, soon-

to-be teachers because although you do not realize it as a student, teaching is a very taxing job that

requires patience and determination. With a diverse classroom of students who have various levels of

knowledge on the subjects being taught and how they grasp those subjects a teacher must be able to

meet the needs of these pupils. To meet those requirements the educator must be able to inspire

students and have lesson plans that reflects the learning styles of all students. This semester has been

helpful in providing me with various ideas for my own classroom and teaching methods.

Teaching is a very diverse job that requires many skills and a lot of patience. It is important for a

teacher to be able to maintain a healthy and professional relationship with their pupils, develop lesson

plans that keep the attention of a majority of the students, make the atmosphere of the classroom

inviting, and be a welcoming person capable of standing up in front of the class to teach. All of these

become part of my goals for development as an educator over the next few years. Looking back at the

experience I had in observing, I am determined to inspire others through a career in Science education.

My strengths include being very determined, goal driven, hard working, learning, good people

skills and trying to help motivate others. I will use these strengths to the best of my ability when I have

my own class in the future. I want to continue with my teaching-learning process and obtain my

teaching certification this year and get my master’s degree soon. After observing this past semester, I

am pretty sure that I like to work with high school students, because I think I'd respond better to them.

The observations were very interesting and helped me better appreciate the teaching profession.

Instead of seeing my grade as an official judgment that I need to preemptively defend, I want first focus on my grades for my assignments and tests—and your comments on the assignments and tests—as an opportunity to help me improve. Performance, Progress and Participation is correlated with the final grade. Grades have the power to open certain doors in the future, and because of this, I am hoping for an Average to Above Average grade. Maraming Salamat at Magandang Buhay!
