INSTALL THE WIRING SO THAT IT ISNOT CRIMPED OR PINCHED BYSCREWS OR SHARP METAL EDGES.Route the cables away from moving partsor sharp pointed edges. This will preventcrimping and damage to the wiring. If thewiring must pass through a metal hole,be sure to use a rubber grommet toprevent the wire’s insulation from beingcut by the metal edge of the hole.

USE THE SPECIFIED ACCESSORYPARTS AND INSTALL THE PRODUCTSECURELY. Be sure to use only thespecified accessory parts. Use of non-specified parts may damage this unitinternally or may not securely install theunit in place. This may cause parts tobecome loose, resulting in hazards orproduct failure.

Please consult thevehicle’s owner’s manual or a servicetechnician prior to removing the batterypositive or ground connection, as it maycause damage to the vehicle’s electricalsystem or require reprogramming of thevehicle’s computer-controlled devices.

Installing the AntennaThe antenna includes a 6-1/2” cablecover/tail which covers the exposedantenna cable and keeps it attachedsecurely to vehicle roof. The tail alsohelps position the antenna the properdistance from the window, sunroof orrear hatch.To attach the cover/tail:1) Once you have determined the

proper mounting location (see nextsection), clean the area with thesupplied alcohol swab.

InstallationIt is recommended that prior to startingthe installation, you thoroughly readthis manual and follow the guidelineslisted below:

Consider the mounting locationcarefully. You should make sure thatyou avoid the following:

• Any location where the tuner isexposed to moisture.

• Any location where the unit isexposed to extreme heat.

• Any location that would interferewith moving parts on the vehicle orhamper driving.

Mounting the SIRSNY1C TunerBe sure that you find a location that isflat and has clearance above the unitto prevent any damage as well asallow for ventilation.

Do not install the tuner under thecarpet or in a small enclosed areawithout proper ventilation. Doing socan result in damage to the tuner orthe vehicle.

Use the supplied screws to securelyfasten the unit.

2) Connect the cover/tail to the antennacable, making sure that the strain-relief on the antenna seats into thecover/tail groove. Route the cablethrough the wire channel in the cover/tail.

Caution:If you are attaching the unit directly tothe vehicle’s chassis, be sure that youcheck to make sure the area behind theunit is free from moving parts, fuel orbreak lines, wire harnesses or anyother items which may get damaged bydrilling a mounting hole or using thesupplied screws.

3) Remove the remaining protective tapefrom the adhesive, carefully positionthe antenna with cover/tail and applypressure to secure to the vehicle.

• For SUVs, minivans and five-doorvehicles, bring the cable into thevehicle under the rubber molding forthe tailgate, and continue under theinterior trim.

• From the trunk, carefully route thecable to the location of theSIRSNY1C and plug the SMBconnector onto the unit.

Caution:• Do not pull the wire across sharp

edges that could damage it.• Keep the wire away from areas

where it could become tangled in thedriver’s and passenger’s feet.

• Keep the antenna wire away fromextreme heat – like exhaust systems.

• Avoid placing the cable near anymoving parts

Optimum Antenna Mounting LocationsThe optimum location to mount theincluded antenna is on the roof of thevehicle. It is important to avoid anyobstruction that will block satellitesignal – like a roof rack. For convertiblevehicles, install the antenna on the trunklid.

• Place the antenna on a metalsurface of your vehicle at least 12" x12", and at least 6" from a window.(Use the antenna cover/tail as aguide for the proper distance).

• The antenna’s powerful magnet willsecure it to the metal surface. Theadhesive that is attached to theantenna cover/tail will secure thecable to the vehicle. Before routingthe antenna cable, confirm that theantenna is mounted in a goodlocation.

• Route the cable from the antenna tothe vehicle’s interior by tucking itunderneath the rubber molding aroundthe rear window (if possible).

• Route the cable from the lowest pointof the rear window into the trunk. Takeadvantage of any existing cablechannels or wiring conduits.

You must activate SIRSNY1C beforeyou can start to receive the SIRIUSSatellite Radio broadcast.1. Make sure that the SIRSNY1C is

properly connected and that itsantenna is oriented to receive theSIRIUS satellite signal.

2. Reset the Sony head unit. On mostmodels, the “Reset” button is visibleon the front of the unit behind thedetachable faceplate. Consult yourSony owner’s manual for the properreset procedure.

3. Turn on the headunit.4. Press and release the SOURCE

button on the head unit to selectSIRIUS as the source. (Each press ofthe SOURCE button will change to adifferent audio source.)

5. The display will read “UPDATING” untilthe SIRSNY1C channel update iscompleted. This is where the latestchannel line up is updated on theSIRIUS Receiver.

NOTE: Don’t push any buttons orperform any operations untilupdating has been completed.Once updated and the SIRIUSchannels are received, you will betuned to SIRIUS Satellite Radio’sPreview Channel (Channel 184). Youshould be able to hear the SIRIUSPreview channel’s Audio.

6. Find the SIRIUS ID (SID) of your unit.The SID can be found on a sticker onthe bottom of the SIRSNY1C or bytuning to channel 255. While onchannel 255, press the display button(DSPL) to select either the artistname or song title. Both fields willdisplay the 12-digit SID. Please refer

to the Auto Scroll section on thefollowing page if you are unable to seethe entire 12-digit SID.

7. Write down the 12 digit SID in thelocation provided on the next page forfuture reference.

8. Contact SIRIUS on the Internet:https://activate.siriuscanada.caFollow the prompts to activate yoursubscription.

You can also call SIRIUS toll-free at 1-888-539-SIRIUS (1-888-539-7474).

You will not be able to tune to anyother channels until you activateyour SIRIUS subscription.

Activating Your SIRIUS Subscription

The SIRSNY1C SIRIUS SatelliteRadio Tuner is compatible with anySony headunit that is “SatelliteRadio Ready”. Consult SIRIUSCustomer Support for moreinformation about compatibility.

Please consult your Sony owner’smanual for proper operationinstructions for using satellite radioproducts.

Basic Operation

Listening to a programThe Sirius receiver is controlled by themaster unit. Button locations vary withdifferent master unit models. Pleaserefer to the master unit instructionmanuals.

1. To select Siriusa. Press the Source button until “Sirius”

or “XM” is displayed - or -b. Press the Source button until “MD” is

displayed, then press the Modebutton to Select SIRIUS. For masterunits which can control more thanone MD changer, press the Modebutton repeatedly (the display willshow “MD1”, “MD2”, etc.) until thereceiver is found.

2. Press either Seek button to select thedesired channel. Pressing and holdingthe Seek button will quickly step throughthe channels.

Note: “LOADING” is indicated while thereceiver is reading the information.

Display itemsA variety of Sirius Satellite Radioprogram information (channel name,artist name, song title) is available onthe display.

Press the Display (DSPL) button.Each time you press the Displaybutton, the items cycle as follows:Channel Name - Artist/Program Name -Song Title...

Storing favourite channelsYou can preset up to 20 channels.

1. Tune in a channel that you want tostore.

2. Press the Shuffle (SHUF) button.The radio will show a list of presets,starting with preset 1. The channelnumber will be shown if a preset hasalready been stored. With somemaster units, the Shuffle button is onlyequipped on the remote control.

3. Press the Disc/Preset button toselect a preset number. With somemaster units, the Disc/Preset button isonly equipped on the remote control.

4. Press the Disc/Preset + (Disc +)button for two seconds. The displayshows “MEMORY” if the radiosuccessfully stores the channel into thepreset. The display shows “FAILURE”if the radio fails to store the channelinto the preset. The radio automaticallyreturns to the normal mode if there isno key pressed within five seconds.

Auto ScrollIf available, it is recommended that youturn on the Auto Scroll feature in yourradio. This will ensure that you will beable to view all of the available artist andsong title information. Please refer to themaster unit instruction manuals forinformation on activating this feature.

Receiving a stored channel. Press either Disc/Preset button toselect the preset channel you want tolisten to.

. Press the Shuffle (SHUF) button.Press the Disc/Preset + (DISC +)button to select the preset channel andthen press the SEEK + or SEEK -button to start.

Using category search to locatechannelsEach Sirius channel is associated witha category that describes the type ofmusic or programming that is played.Some example categories include rock,country, news, etc. Use the radio’ssearch-by-category function to find andselect channels.

1. Press the Repeat (REP) button toenter category search mode. Thecategory of the current channel isdisplayed. With some master units,the Repeat button is only equipped onthe remote control.

2. Press the Disc/Preset buttonsrepeatedly until you find the desiredcategory.

3. Press the Seek buttons repeatedlyuntil you find the desired channel inthat category. The display shows “CATSRCH” to indicate that the radio is inthe category search mode. While inthis mode, you will only be able to tuneto channels in the selected category.You may use the Disc/Preset buttonsto choose other categories.

4. To exit from category search modeand return to the normal mode, pressthe Repeat (REP) button. The radioautomatically returns to the normalmode if no key is pressed within fiveseconds.
