Institution and distribution

There's a big difference between Hollywood and British independent distribution

On a big proportion, because they get example of big Hollywood corporations is Disney, they own every stage of the film industry from the pre production the exhibition, they can reach out easily to their very specific audience and give them what they want which guaranties them a box office hit because they get money from all areas of film including their own chain of cinemas, this is a very business consumer first style film industry, its also very old fashioned, this is what the first ever Hollywood film companies did.

Independent film companies in general are much more cut up then Hollywood, each stage is separate and owned by I different corporation, especially, the distribution and exhibition stages, in America the independent film industry isn't as famous and popular in America as much as the British independent film industry popular in Britain.

Our film• Our style of film to me at first glance is more

of an independent style film. • This is because it does take the

characteristics of many independent films

Conventions of independent films that fit the criteria of our film

• First perhaps is small the budget. Though of Corse made under a school environment we didn't have a budget almost at all, but I think if we were to it would be a small budget.

• Limited or selective distribution to small specialty/artistic cinemas• they often use unconventional filming techniques, e.g. long and

frequent establishing shots• Most protagonists are not generic, often have quirky personality

of character, three dimensional

• Independent films often have far more dialog, limited sets/locations, minimal special effects, and far less SFX action.

• Scripts can be often put together by a lot of improvisation• Small limited casts

Distributing

As our film is a small independent film, our first priorities would be:•Social media: setting up all social media to find and gain a audience

•Entering our film into film festivals like the BFI film festival where most independent films go

•I think the kind of distribution companies that would pick us up, are the lottery fund and possibly film 4, because both companies fund independent films as well as blockbusters

FundingOur thriller could be funded by kick-starter, Kick-starter is the world's largest funding platform for creative projectsThe fund, film, games, comic, design, photography“We’re a home for everything from films, games, and music to art, design, and technology. Kick-starter is full of projects, big and small, that are brought to life through the direct support of people like you. Since our launch in 2009, 8.4 million people have pledged more than $1.7 billion, funding 83,000 creative projects. Thousands of creative projects are raising funds on Kick-starter right now.”-Taken from their website

Film 4So our film I think would be picked up by film 4 because its not a normal classic thriller its a bit diffrent and unusual, those kind of films get picked up by film 4, though film 4 also picks up popular films like the iron lady or the inbetweners movie, this could give us the slightly larger independent audience compared to other independent distributors
