IMPORTANT !Caring of the 100% polyester

fabric of your kiteUnder the sun UV rays, there is always a predictable degradation of all fabric materials. The ParaskiFlex’s kites are constructed with the best materials and fabrics on the market today. However, due to the very technical nature of this super light polyester, we strongly advise you not to lay your kite flat on the ground under the sun for extended periods of time. The fabric is double coated with UV and moisture protectant and should keep it’s integrity for a long time if you take good care of it.

There is also the possibility of fungus proliferation on the fabric if you do not let the kite dry properly before you store it into it’s bag. It is thus very IMPORTANT that you let your fabric DRY completely and avoid trapping any moisture in the folded kite. This situation could also bring some staining problems and color transfer.

All our kites are fully guaranteed against any manufacturers defect and it is our primary concern to supply our customers with quality materials and fabrics. It is also our duty to provide you with all the necessary advises for keeping your material in the best of conditions .

Thank you and enjoy your ParaskiFlex

Warned ! Caution !

Paraskiflex is a new sports but including risks of which it is necessary to be aware. The potency of the wind, the speed, falls or collisions can cause wounds that can be serious. This textbook is a basic tool to help you to use your ParaskiFlex in a security manner.

It is very important to control all technical elements before playing wholeheartedly with the potency of the vent. The introductory course with a sun-tanned instructor ParaskiFlex is necessary to start in a security manner. Lessons of autonomy and refinement are also available to improve your skills in complete safety and learn to use your kite on snow, water or firm earth. The practice of this sports in complete safety is our first preference.

Be CAREFUL ! Do not underestimate wind force !

CHAPTER 1 SECURITY

1-A Wind and its dangers

Be always wary of wind force, it is more powerful than you think of it. Even a light wind can draw you, with a kite, at an amazing speed. The wind is always more powerful when you move away from the riverside and sail big areas.

It’s better to be sub-veiled than over - veiled because the over-power will prevent you from aiming well. In case of doubt on the speed of the wind, use your kite in storm mode, and use it in mode half storm or full open if you do not have enough power. The wind is unpredictable and can augment rapidly. Be always ready to reduce your sail, remain attentive !

The wind affects the cooling factor of air a lot and can cause chilblains, get dressed properly. The wind could produce blizzard which diminishes visibility: Caution !

Page 8: Instruction Guide and Passport - PARASKIFLEXintroduces a visible wear: potential danger ! Carry ski’s google and protective helmet. Put away your kite in cold, it avoids the melting

6

1-B Playground and the ice

Navigate on a playground free from obstacles. Avoid any potentially dangerous obstacle from a distance. Always stay under the wind of a possible obstacle. Be wary of obstacles hidden under snow: fences, branches, etc. Avoid mobile obstacles: other paraskiers, snowmobile, etc.

Stay from electric power lines. You should never risk on the ice without having the opinion of a competent person who knows the used site. The ice is always more slim on a watercourse where there is current. Never go closer than few hundred feet to open water. Ask for permission the owner of the ground before achieving it.

Your Security = Our Priority

Page 9: Instruction Guide and Passport - PARASKIFLEXintroduces a visible wear: potential danger ! Carry ski’s google and protective helmet. Put away your kite in cold, it avoids the melting

7

1-C Equipment

An equipment in good condition is a guarantee of security. You are responsible for his maintenance. Make maintain your skis and fixings by a professional. Check the state of your sail, of your lines, your harness and the emergency carabiner before every exit. You must be able of installing the tempest mode to reduce by yourlself the power of your kite.

Before your first ride, practice to drop the kite by using the emergency carabiner in a open place without obstacle. Change any line which introduces a visible wear: potential danger ! Carry ski’s google and protective helmet. Put away your kite in cold, it avoids the melting of snow inside the sail. Avoid hitting the end of your stems down, they can get damaged and even break.

Page 10: Instruction Guide and Passport - PARASKIFLEXintroduces a visible wear: potential danger ! Carry ski’s google and protective helmet. Put away your kite in cold, it avoids the melting

8

1-D Navigation

Put together your kite in a clear place. Always leave sub-veiled (Half storm or storm mode). Put on your skis and tie your kite to the harness before taking off your kite. Never take off your kite without tying it to the harness.

Never jump from a bump as in alpine skiing, you might hurt yourselves from the first try. A certified instructor will teach you to use the lift power of your kite to take off in control.

Fundamental navigation rule : the paraskier which has follow left hand in front of the bar (port tack) must give up passage.

Be Careful !

Page 11: Instruction Guide and Passport - PARASKIFLEXintroduces a visible wear: potential danger ! Carry ski’s google and protective helmet. Put away your kite in cold, it avoids the melting

9

1-D Navigation

Never navigate alone. Notify somebody of your departure. Make visual landmarks to come back to your starting point. (buildings, trees, flags, etc). Bring your cellular phone. Take a knife and back up lines. Bring hot pads to heat your hands.

All elements of security listed must be controlled to assure you a safely use of Paraskiflex. A simple wound can prove to be dangerous because of cold. A motionless person, displayed in the wind, can suffer from hypothermia or from chilblains in next to no time.

Be EXTREMLY careful !

CHAPTER 2 NOTIONS OF WIND

2-A The window of wind

Be situated faced with the wind. In this position, you are at the center of the clock and the wind is at noon. Take up your kite then to 3 hres .

Window : zone in the space where a kite can move under the wind, at the end of its line, in comparison with the paraskieur (from 3 hres until 9 hres ).

Edge of window : imaginary line where the kite ceases advancing faced with the wind.

Zone of potency : space in the window where the kite deal is potency. The maximum is were the kite is down at 6 hres.

Zenith : the highest place above where the kite flies in equilibrium faced with the wind.

In the wind : side where comes the wind in comparison with the paraskieur (at noon)

2-B Bearings

You always start windward, direction beam reach.

Beam reach :this is a course steered at right angles to the wind. Most take direction (toward 3 hres or 9 hres)

Close reach : this is any upwind angle between Close Hauled and a Beam Reach. (toward 2 hres or 10 hres).

Broad reach : the wind is coming from behind the paraskier at an angle. (toward 4 hres or 8 hres). Maximum speed: CAUTION

Downwind : the wind is coming from behind the paraskier (at 6 hres) Transitionnal position while tacking.

Four importants concepts to memorize

CHAPTER 3 TECHNIC

3-A ParaskiFlex’s concept

ParaskiFlex is a kite with short lines and a uni-directionnal control bar. The stem of hybrid carbon in section acts as structure in the kite. The bridle and lines are linked up with the unidirectional barre. The whole acted as a force of traction and moved forward the paraskieur.

The attach point of the kite on the bar corresponds to the balance of the kite, what assures the equilibrium of the kite in the air ; do not move this attach point without reason. The harness assures an optimum traction because of its lowered centre of gravity. The paraskieur can release from the kite at any instant by using the emergency carabiner.

Page 18: Instruction Guide and Passport - PARASKIFLEXintroduces a visible wear: potential danger ! Carry ski’s google and protective helmet. Put away your kite in cold, it avoids the melting

16

3-B Assemblage

Settle down back to the wind in a field free from obstacle.

Unfold the kite under the wind by keeping stems in hand. Deposit stems perpendicular to the wind. Move the bar to the end of lines under the wind. Spread out the kite by unfolding it, keep her on the soil.

Insert the stem the the tip of the sail (at 9 hres). Install the 3 joints successively from the left to the right. Insert the stem in the right tip (at 3 hres). Put some snow (or a reversed ski) on the leading edge of the sail to avoid that the wind raises it. Take the direction bar and unfold lines under the wind. Lines have to be all on the sail and not cross.

It is simple, be played !

Page 19: Instruction Guide and Passport - PARASKIFLEXintroduces a visible wear: potential danger ! Carry ski’s google and protective helmet. Put away your kite in cold, it avoids the melting

17

3-C

You are back to the wind, facing your kite which must be displayed on the ground, the stem faced to the wind, lines unfolded on the sail, the bar under the wind.

Take away the tip at one extremity of the kite (at 9 hres). Undo the three joints successively from the right to the left. Unmounted the tip at the other extrremity of the kite (at 3 hres). Fold up the left tip on the neighbouring stem. Then fold up the right tip on the neighbouring stem. Fold up the half of right on the half of left.

Make sure to put ends of stems outside cloths. Put the bar along stems. Pick up lines at the back of the bar, wrap them around roughly and thread them inside the sail. Wrap the sail around the stems with the bar. Roll on the sail. Insert the sail in its bag of tidying up.

Dismantling and packing

18

3-D Knots

Lark’s head : sliding loop formed by inserting a line in the loop located at its extremity. Then we close the loop around the direction bar or at the end of a line with a simple knot (ajustment of line "A").

Slip-knot: used knot at some fixed points of the bridle. Also use to repair a broken line.

Buttonhole: use knot for tying lines " C " together and lines " B " together in the storm mode.

Practive, it’s easy !

20

3-E Modes of use

In some minutes, you can change easily the form of your ParaskiFlex’s kite to adapt to the changeable speed of the wind and still kite in control. All models of ParaskiFlex’s kites of series " F " are adjustable in 3 modes.

Full-open mode : all surface of the sail of a kite is used to generate a traction which the paraskieur can control according to the conditions of present wind.

Half-storm mode : when the speed of the wind generates a traction of the kite which the paraskieur can hardly control, it is preferable to diminish the useful surface of the kite by installing half-storm mode. See diagram page 22.

Storm mode : used mode when the kite in half-storm mode generates a too much traction for the paraskieur. Toutes les cerfs-volants Paraskiflex ont des surfaces de voile pour des plages de vent particulières.

All Paraskiflex’s kites have there own particular range of wind.

3-F Extensions cords

To acquire more stability of your kite when winds are variable near the soil, they can install extenions cords. They also have advantage to increase your window of the wind making easier some manoeuvers.

They can be 2 different length: 15 feet or 30 feet according to the height wanted. They can put on end to end but the longer they are and the less quick the kite will answer to the bar of direction.

CHAPTER 4 BASIC MANOEUVRE

4-A Lift off

The sequence of assemblage is completed, kite is facing the wind, all lines are on the kite. Move the direction bar to the opposite direction which you want to start (ex: in 10 hres if you leave towards 3 hres or else in 2 hres if you leave towards 9 hres). Be sure that all lines are on the kite.

Put on your skis and tie the carabiner to the ring linked up with the bar. Turn your skis in chosen direction (for instance in 3 hres). Put your hands on the bar. The hand, near the red tip, should have the palm toward the sky, loses, in front of the carabiner of the harness. The back hand, the palm toward the ground, loses, behind the carabiner. Do put the back hand farther than the middle of the bar.

Page 29: Instruction Guide and Passport - PARASKIFLEXintroduces a visible wear: potential danger ! Carry ski’s google and protective helmet. Put away your kite in cold, it avoids the melting

27

4-A

1 - Move away from the kite by standing back (at 10 hrs for instance). By pulling on the bar, lines are first going to raise the opposited side of the kite.

2 - The kite takes rapidly its form faced with the wind.

3 - Swivel the bar to bring the kite to zenith, above you, by keeping it faced with the wind because it is in this position it gives least potency.

4 - To start, made swivel the bar in direction where you want to go. The kite goes to the same way as the direction bar and you already advance. The more you swivel the bar downwards, the more the kite goes down in the zone of potency, more you quickly go. To decelerate, bring back the kite slowly faced with the wind and brake with your skis in snowplow.

29

4-B Dropping

It is important to control the dropping of the kite to develop the reflex in an emergency. Practice to drop your kite in a place free from any obstacle. The emergency carabiner liberates instantly the kite when you pull the central block with your hand.

The kite is not going to go far because it loses its aerodynamic force to fly as soon as it has no more any anchoring. Replace your kite, on the soil, faced with the wind. Disentangle your lines and take off again. Never touch your carabiner while kiting except in an emergency.

With practice, you will become experimenced !

Page 32: Instruction Guide and Passport - PARASKIFLEXintroduces a visible wear: potential danger ! Carry ski’s google and protective helmet. Put away your kite in cold, it avoids the melting

30

4- C Tacking

Your first tacking should be practiced without your skis, under the supervision of an instructor. When you navigate, you should :

- Slow down and bring your kite to zenith ;

- Begin a tacking in snowplow, back in the wind;

- Swivel the bar progressively in the other direction;

- When you are back to the wind, change the position of your hands on the bar and leave again in opposed direction;

Remember that the bar is fixed to the harness, it is in equilibrium between you and the kite, you have only to swivel the bar.

Mostly, the changes of direction of the bar have to be gently made. The patented unidirectional mode of ParaskiFlex makes the workability of the kite simple-easy-efficient.

Page 33: Instruction Guide and Passport - PARASKIFLEXintroduces a visible wear: potential danger ! Carry ski’s google and protective helmet. Put away your kite in cold, it avoids the melting

31

4-D Landing

Decelerate by bringing the kite to zenith. Choose a place free from any obstacle, a little way out of the circulation. Lowered the kite in front of you by keeping it faced with the wind (at the edge of the window) by swiveling slowly the bar forward.

Deposit the kite on the ground by advancing fast toward it to take away tension in lines. The kite is going to lie down in front of you, beware not to pass on the sail. Trigger off the snap clasp and deposit the bar on the ground. Put some snow or a ski reversed on the leading edge of the kite to prevent it from being raised by the wind.

Once again practice will make an expert of you and this easy maneuver to be fulfilled.

Share knowledge with other paraskiers.

Page 34: Instruction Guide and Passport - PARASKIFLEXintroduces a visible wear: potential danger ! Carry ski’s google and protective helmet. Put away your kite in cold, it avoids the melting

32

MAINTENANCE

After numerous manners, it is possible that your stems become too long owed to a constriction of the black scabbard. Resolution is to cut a stem on each side of the half of distance too. Make a trait all around the stem with a saw with iron first before supplementing the complete cup to avoid fraying. For more details, see our DVD on ParaskiFlex that you can find at our retailer's.

If you go to seawater with your sail, rinse it in fresh water after every usage. Also change the ring of the bar every season.

If you repair a line yourlself always respect the original length by comparing with the opposed line.Change a small bridle completely by using a loop in both ends as you can see it on our DVD.

Consult our DVD on ParaskiFlex kite or one of our representative near you for any breaking of cloth, stem, of joint or line.
